Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

Way to kill forgers' primary incentive...

Sorry, but no matter how much they improve Forge those maps are still incomparable to real maps. I don't pay $60 to have the 10 developer maps buried in 50 community piles of shit.

Forge at this point is a map "editor" trying to be passed off as a map "creator".

I willl say... that one map, unconquered... I actually really like. Light it/Color it/Model it so I know where I am and its not gray... It'd be perfect.

Community Skirmish playlist. 5v5 Slayer/Objective. All community maps. Bam!

Is that the one with like...a grav lift up to a tower that has a wall in front of the top of the grav lift's path? Long hallway leading to that?

I mean, it'd be easier to describe if every forge map didn't just have some generic name and GREY GREY GREY as distinguishing features.

If so, yeah, I played that earlier today in Super Slayer and very much enjoyed it.

Edit: just did a youtube search. Yeah, that's the map. Thought it was really fun.

Yea no problem, a lot of props to Jazzy on u4ix too from all they did in the last couple days with editing and getting videos up along with helping me find H4 news.
I do appreciate the work you put in man, thanks :)

YES.
Haven is looking immaculate. I love the aesthetics.

Of course you're never going to be able to 'create' a map to the standards you expect developers to build to. That's a given, Forge is an editor, yes. But I have seen many many maps, play-spaces, whatever you want to call them, created within Forge. I understand that you want to play on the maps that came on disc, or as DLC, but one of my favorite parts about Halo is the way the community interacts with the game, the things people create in Halo never cease to amaze me, and with forge, the ultimate goal for any competitive forger is to have their work played by the masses.
A permanent community playlist(s) could be a good idea [after enough content is produced], and maybe even offer a playlist that features only community maps that changes focus every week (Slayer, Objective, Casual gametypes, etc.).
There's no reason why community maps shouldn't be included in MM.

Tell me about it, I was trying to take advantage of Wu and have him snag some beta keys at the VIP party.

Lol I'd pay so much money for a Halo 4 beta key.

And as for community maps, I'm okay with them being in matchmaking. Just not as many as in Reach. 3-5 at absolute max, and even then, only ones that have been considered excellent by 343 and fans. Maybe use the "Community Skirmish" playlist as a test bed for the better maps. Put the ones voted for/downloaded the most into regular matchmaking.

I'm certainly not against forge maps being in community playlists for them, I just don't want all the core playlists to be infested (god knows there will be way too many playlists to begin with).

I went to go check on feedback threads for all the maps that were added and updated to see if there was anything to notify authors about for the CC process. Stumbled upon this one for Cragmire

Nice to see you posting here more. More Forgers are always welcome. Hopefully black kn1ght will be approved before too long.

I'll be around more often for sure. ;) I always forget this place exists, but big reveal news always reminds me that it does and I need to participate... lol.

Glad to hear people enjoying it. That is why I made sure to put it in the running for MM. ;) Looking forward to the capabilities of forge in H4 and hoping that we can make believers out of those who don't think community maps fit in matchmaking. I do agree that there is a flood of them right now, but that doesn't mean they have no place.

I'll never forgive you for Cragmire.

Anyone see the rockets in Halo 4? The hell is up with that projectile trail? Looks dumb and really gamey.

Oh, you made it? good job, man.

I would definitely agree with the limiting of community maps. Only the absolute best for Halo 4. Reach was a good testing ground for learning this kind of stuff. And like you said, a community playlist to find the community favorites would work great for selecting those 3-5 maps and those maps can be rotated on fairly decent basis. With a community playlist you have time to familiarize yourself with the maps, then when a map hits regular matchmaking a good majority of people should already be comfortable with it and recognize it.

Actually no, I watch it from birth to testing all the way through. I'm the community cartographer that submitted it for MM consideration. I made Affinity (I know... :( it was good at the time... right after Forgetacular), Think Twice (co-forged with three other forgers... not as bad as Affinity; great for casual not for competitive), and Chateau (I am proud of this one no matter what anyone says :p). I'm part of the problem with the influx of community maps in MM. Sorry guys. :(

Oh and I was proud of Affinity in Flagstravaganza... it fit well with the 5v5 player count and the objective focus. Made the map play as intended.

Tell the cartographers to make/submit more Arena style maps.

If I find any that I am willing to put my rep on the line for then I will consider submitting it heavily. However with Synapse in the mix, the "arena style" hole is sort of filled. Part of the goal is variety as well as quality.

Who in here's a Community Cartographer? I know Fyrewulff and GodlyPerfection are. Feel like I'm missing someone.

Homeboyd and Nokyard are... if they don't mind me revealing their identities. lol... :p

Whoa, Homeboyd's a Cartographer? Huh. How many Cartographers are there total?

I haven't read any of the books past Contact Harvest, unless Evolutions was after that I can't remember, but I'm definitely about to get Cryptum soon. I am so lost on this Forerunner/Promethean/Diadact stuff. Gotta catch up.

Anyone here who votes for Infinity Slayer anytime on or after November 6th will get an angry message from me. :p Normal Slayer for life.

Don't worry, I'm sure 343 will have 18 sets of playlists for each type of gametypes.

Reach can only have 26 playlists, you can bet that 343i won't make that mistake for H4. 100 playlists at launch or bust!

Bringing the rotation back into Matchmaking; I like it.

Edit: also, while we're talking about Forge, I know it's early, but I just wanted to say--if 343 want to do a Forgetacuar contest, or something of the like, DON'T let them do it early in Halo 4's life cycle, like Bungie did with Reach. Forgers were inexperienced, and nothing of quality really came out of it. Wait for about 6 months after release, so people have time to get used to the tools of Forge.

Meeting Frankie today was sweeeeeeeeeeet. He had no clue who I was though. Oh well.

Oh and core Halo gameplay is definitely there. I sincerely apologize for my prior bitching. I refused to believe until I saw it in person.

Re-listening to MTW right now and he seems to have nailed quite a bit including the final map names.

For anyone starving for info who doesn't care about MP spoilers here is the link again.

Note: I am drunk as hell and I show my hatred for him.

Not sure if posted(I have not seen it posted) but GameInformer published their "preview" of Spartan Ops. It has some nice little information:
We got to see an early mock-up of the first episode in which Majestic Squad suits up in Spartan armor onboard the Infinity, flies past a massive Star Wars-caliber space battle in a smaller vessel, and attempts to stop Covenant forces from reaching an artifact on Requiem. This faction of Covenant believes that one of their gods resides on the planet, which is occupied with some version of the Forerunners called the Promethians. While Spartan Ops takes place on the same planet as the campaign, 343 promises that unique level designs and geometry separates the two modes in the vast majority of cases.
