Project P-100 (Nintendo/Platinum Games) announced for WiiU [Director: Hideki Kamiya]

I'm not saying it couldn't be done on a 360

But to say that, apart from the resolution, this looks like a Wii game is ridiculously ignorant.

Its a step up yes and to a player like me I care 100 times more about how it plays rather than how it looks BUT this game and all the other games failed to show any graphical advantage the WiiU might have over the other consoles. I think that is the point the poster was making and it is valid. E3 is supposed to be there for manufacturers to put their best foot forward and in that sense WiiU didn't impress graphically.

Of course I rather play this and or Pikmin over FPS clone #4.

Images do the game no justice, but they're nice to have anyway.

I don't think these have been posted:

Edit: Er, it wasn't my intention to post these in comparison to the above.

In love how even the lines of the stadium are modelled in 3D instead of using a texture.

This game does A LOT of things that a Wii couldnt do in terms of shaders, effects, lightning and the scenario polycount. And much less at that resoltuion and what it seems 60fps.

There are tons of them on the download marketplace on both the PS3 and Xbox360. You must not be looking very hard.

He said some post after, seeing this kind of games at retail, not only as download titles.

I just noticed something in Wii U games:

COLORS in HD; I can't remember seeing any other action game this colorful for so much years

I think this is the same reason I found Lego City very gorgeous too

This is fantastic. Kamiya staying true to his love of Kamen Rider/Sentai, great use of the GamePad, and 1080p/60fps. Platinum are indeed platinum.

This does look really, really fun, actually.

For the sake of Wii U's success, though, I just hope that Nintendo has a couple first-party games in store that also look like they couldn't have been developed by EAD rather than just playing that way.

Watching HD footage this is by far the best looking game PG has ever made, the best looking Wii U game on display too. It's really baffling that this wasn't a highlight at their conference. "From the director of Resident Evil 2, Viewtiful Joe and Okami". Dumb Nintendo is DUMB. I guess they were just playing to their stockholders.

So many dumb decisions. Rayman is apparently some kind of exclusive and it wasn't even mentioned. Instead they highlighted a game that has already been out for 6 months.

Who is calling the shots at Nintendo? It's difficult to believe the normally astute Iwata would have done that...

They showed a sequel to huge selling franchise New Super Mario Bros
They showed a sequel to huge selling franchise Wii Fit
They showed a sequel to huge selling franchise Just Dance
They showed a spiritual sequel to huge selling mini-game collections the likes of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort
They showed that huge selling third party games are on board

They had a strategy, a shitty strategy for the venue, and they stuck to it.

I just think Nintendo is desperately trying to get 3rd party publishers on board. That's why they gave so much time to WB and Ubisoft during their conference this year (and EA last year). The problem is the big publishers are never going to favor them over Microsoft and Sony. They need to just move on and focus on supporting small developers and publishers, they'll have MUCH MORE success there.

This. Extended gameplay really makes the game shine. Love the Viewtiful Joe inspired designs.

Batman was there so Nintendo could say "Look, this is the kind of multiplatform game that will finally be on Nintendo consoles again after a brief window of that happening early in the GameCube's life."

Shame it'll stop the second developers start focusing on PS4 and Xbox 720.

I agree about what you say. For me, it's time to Nintendo to make his own ecosystem for that console and P-100 is one example of that. Nintendo should publish from small developers. I would not be surprised to see more Platinum Games on Wii U.

Remember games like Little King's story, Muramasa and others that were found on Wii but no one knew about them. Nintendo should gave a chance to these games and publish them worldwide.

I'll say again :

They need quality games from 1st and 2nd party developers.
Make an easy platform for indies.
Moneyhat or publish some 3rd party games (P-100, Ninja Gaiden 3, Lego City Undercover,...)
Bring the big mainstream 3rd party games (EA sports, Call of Duty,...)

You'll see money.

Why does it feel like a B class game?

I know Kamiya is involved but I'm sure you all had the same reaction as I did...and that is..."Why does Nintendo always seem to get colourful, quaint and peculiar, niche sort of titles?"

And on top of that developers and publishers will moan if the game flops even though they clearly started development on the wrong foot assuming a bunch of stuff and that such titles would sell better on Nintendo hardware than Sony or MS.

This game just doesn't feel like it had an A team production even though Kamiya is involved.

Now I wouldn't mind if Kamiya is involved because its an idea he had etc etc but I just don't believe it. This feels like Nintendo approached Platinum or Platinum approached Nintendo looking to make some money for future projects. Nintendo bringing the $$$ and Platinum doing something they assume will appeal to a stereotypical Wii U owner.

I dunno...something feels off here..

I think it looks better than what it has been showed (in screens) of MGSR. But thats just maybe me because one of the things I most hate is the fucking jaggies.
Is MGSR in 1080 or just 720?

So colourful = B class, game, right. Thank you very much.
And no, I didnt had that reaction.

Did you watch the Gamespot walkthrough? (Dial it up to 720p) It's like 12 minutes and the man explaining it has to talk super-fast to even try to do justice to explaining all the details in this game. And that's just the gameplay. The game is incredibly fast and fluid and solid-looking, teeming with intricate detail. This doesn't look like a B-class effort.

On a side note, I wonder if this game is 720p, since the screens in Nintendo's press kit are that resolution. The screens look compressed, though, not nearly as smooth as in motion.

That Gamespot video turned me on.

I need more tokusatsu-themed games like this. <3

Agreed so much. I'm hoping that this is the start of a good thing between P* and Nintendo. Not only for the sake of a new and promising IP like this, but maybe even other things down the road.

Kamiya doing a new Star Fox, P* helping with the development of the two new Smash games... *starts salivating uncontrollably*

Btw EA were suppose to fill up the Warner Bros spot at the conference but they pulled out last minute to go with MS to showcase SmartGlass instead.

That's why we had the Batman showing...and it seemed out of place. There was a plan to show off EA sports gamepad titles.

This specificaly needs to be Nintendo's primary focus. They are doing a horrible job creating an accessible process for indie developers to get their games published on their platforms. There is no excuse for it because they need their support more than Sony or MS do.

Interesting, can you give a source for this?

I'm going to take a guess at an element of P-100's final title: something involving the word "UNITE". Not only is "unite" how they form the various things you create ("unite line," "unite sword," etc), but it has, well, a 'u' in the title. So maybe the final game will be called "Heroes Unite" or something.

I thought the same exact thing—even the title, "Heroes Unite!" It must be too obvious.

It's worth noting, though, that the titles to Kamiya's games sometimes have a specific or invented word in them: "Bayonetta", "Viewtiful." I hope they surprise us with really fun name.

Edit: I want this to be called, "Aliens Ate Our Neighbors."

Thats false, WB was going to be there, at least with the Scribblenauts Unlimited, I knew this since E3 last year because they were asked by Nintendo.
I dont know about Batman though.

What are you even talking about? Haven't you heard over the past months that Nintendo has been freely licensing developer tools to devs as an enticing offer to develop on the wii u? That alone shows they're welcoming anyone to come to their new system.

I wish that the negative reaction were muted a bit or less knee jerk. NOA is bad enough at localizing games as it is.

Yeah I saw it...I'm not saying it's a bad game. Not at all...I'm just saying it seems niche and not a Bayonetta or a Vanquish-esque calibre game. I mean if you see the initial reaction from everyone they were down on it too lets be honest. When we heard Platinum were doing an exclusive people were thinking it was an ambitious title that could bring a punch to the Wii U...

I guess it comes down to different expectation etc...

Who are you and why should I believe you (I really want to btw).

I'm no one...but my friend works in gaming journalism and he was told by his friend in EA they were given a slot at the Nintendo conference but turned it down for MS...

Don't even joke that this might not come out in North America.

First Anarchy Reigns, now this? My poor little heart wouldn't be able to take it.

But why aren't the EA Sports game confirmed for WiiU? Was that slot given a year ago, when the games did not start development and was instantly given away or did this happen short before E3? The games must be there then, or did EA cancel every WiiU sports game because they showed smart glass? This doesn't make any sense

Don't get me wrong, I had the same initial "meh" impression of this game when I first saw it. It just didn't line up with what I typically think of when I think Platinum Games. Rather than a dominant character, depicted doing over-the-top things, front and center, we had a whole gaggle of smaller characters, each packed full of personality, but the view scaled back to accomodate them all and their surroundings. It's when I watched the walk-through that I really started to appreciate the game's rhythm and flow -- the defining feature of Platinum, imo -- and I could feel the combos they were chaining, and see the different approaches they could take, and I started to appreciate all the intricate detail woven into everything, and just how solid and well-constructed all the elements were. Now I'm stoked, but again, I know where you're coming from: in the way it presents itself, it looks different than Platinum's usual fare, at first blush.

Don't even joke that this might not come out in North America.

P-100 is coming to North America, in the launch window if not at launch. This is confirmed. Reggie even mentioned the game is a huge hit internally at Treehouse, a division at Nintendo of America that no doubt is conducting the final names for the game, the characters, etc, as we speak.

Interesting impressions. Positive overall, though he said it confused him at times since you have to hit A to confirm the transformation you want once you draw it. Sounds like something that could be learned. The finickiness of the controls at other times is something I hope they iron out, if it's not indicative of him just being less receptive to these sort of action games.

I know i've said this ad naeseum but WHY WASN'T THIS SHOWN AT THE CONFERENCE? Pad usage, classic charm, amazing music, Kamiya and Platinum's name... oh, what could have been. What was the logic to give this as a GT exclusive? Everyone was already depressed by the conference :(

That's why.

Anarchy Reigns localization is completely finished already and that's still waiting to be "confirmed."

But Nintendo isn't Sega so I'm not actually worried about P-100.

That out-of-context screen continues to haunt this game (out of context, since it looks fine in motion, and the character's size relative to the rest of the game makes it the equivalent of looking at a fire hydrant in another game). Thankfully, the trailer introduces an incredible-looking robot -- high poly, no jaggies -- right after that frame.

Since we're on a new page (posts set to 100 per page), here's the must-watch Gamespot walkthrough for anyone just tuning in.
