When one is as affably offensive as you, an unoffendable deflector shield sprouts up about you. None of my technology can penetrate it. :(

Dude, that throwaway observation is probably a cutting insight into my psyche. I do say a good chunk of offensive things for jest, never with any malice behind them, and that may well be the reason I can effect such a detached manner when reviewing the potentially offensive comments of others. Do you have a couch I could come and lie down on? maybe talk about my childhood?

I mean, often I can see when things could be construed as offensive and why they should be construed as offensive, I just don't feel any real offence.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
Huh? Still none the wiser. Can someone explain why California having the best Chinese restaurants is offensive? To anyone?

NYC'ers and other East Coasters got real upset. And the person that made the judgement explained why the best restaurants were in CA, because of more affluent emigre's and tastes coming in to CA, as opposed to NYC.

But of course, East Coast GAF was having none of that.

The first page of that thread was a very entertaining read.

Many New Yorkers have the perception that their city is "the best" and the center of the world, so anything that contradicts that notion, makes them uncomfortable.

Although I think whoever mentioned that in this thread as being blatantly offensive, was joking. I hope.

Holocaust denial, Stalinist purge and labor camps denial, denial of the Chinese and Iranian governments' totalitarian atrocities.

Some of it trolling. A larger proportion of it serious. In either case, I would expect a permaban, and to the mods' mild credit, it generally happens and happens fast.

Oh. So America was offended, not China. Thanks man.

Speaking of permabans, was Manos perma'd?

Never seen anything offensive on Neogaf. Perhaps only Solo's hate for Metal Gear Solid 4. God. Give it a rest, maaaaaaan.

How can anyone here be offended by anything on this forum?? That's the first rule of the internet. If random strangers by using words and IMG smackdowns can get the best of you, what chances do YOU honstly have out in the big wild world?

Other peoples opinions and sayings dont matter. It shouldn't phase you.

What's really going on when people get offended is that they think their shit and beliefs is more important than anybody else. Imagine how much this place would suck if everyone went around and were offended by anything. Everybody can be offended over anything.

I truly believe that people who try to deal with their stuff instead of policing and projecting everything onto others because they need a sense of validation are ironically more humble beings.

telling others what is right to say and think no matter how retarded it is (like denying the holocaust) is in itself dumb. if someone denies the holocaust, that act in itself is so blantly retarded that there is no need for someone else to come in and correct that person and go omfgbbqwtf. it speaks for itself. everyone will judge everyone anyway. you dont need to say shit, so dont.

if anything your just giving them attention. indirectly your letting them get a reaction out of you. so if your truly are offended, the best thing you can do is ignore it. if you even acknowledge it, you have already lost.
this is internet 101.

A lot of blatant racism/anti-semitism usually comes up in any Israel hot topic thread.

Sometimes the mods don't do anything despite people pointing it out - I imagine because it happens all the fucking time and they're sick of dealing with it.

As a white straight male there isn't much to be offended about - that's what I meant.

Eh, there is if you want there to be. The assumption that we're blinded to what privilege we do have. The assumption that we're all privileged. The assumption that we're all passively racist and many, many of us are actively racist. The assumption that we don't know what it's like to be poor, or to be marginalised. The assumption that we're probably not safe to leave with kids. The assumption that we just see women as breasts and a vagina. The fact that if we complain about anything, we're reminded that everyone else has it way worse than we do, as if that settles our grievance somehow. The fact that 'straight white male' is virtually synonymous with 'ignorant bigot' for many people.

Is it really worth getting hot & bothered over? Nah, not really.

I should probably find that notion offensive, but i don't really have the will or the energy.
This, essentially.

ANY discussion of Israel by default is going to be a cesspool, and unless everyone discussing it is banned, it's inevitable. Especially as the label of racism/anti-semitism and the like is often misused as a debate weapon to discredit the opposition.

It's even harder for you, being brit and all. Although that's quite deseved :p

Well I dunno, it's mostly people saying they wouldn't date a girl who used to be a dude. It's not like they say "transgender people should burn in hell" or something. So what's the non-offending answer then, saying that yes, you'd totally date such person?

Been on the Internet far too long to get offended... some people do get on my nerves, but it's more due to knowing the futility of any argument.

I find the broad generalizations and assumptions to be the worst, though.

You're not familiar with his post history? He was being a creep on several occasions. But whatever, you guys can tolerate a lot more than I ever could. :\

No, I don't recognize the name, but I generally don't remember names and remember avatars more anyways.

But I'll take your word for it that he was a creep that deserves it.

I dunno, the jokes (some posts perhaps not fully jokes) about murdering or beating transpeople and such seem pretty offensive to me. Dehumanizing pronouns like "it" too. Not sure though.

It is nearly impossible to offend me.

However topics that seem to sprout up almost monthly where a few people try to essentially ban a new word in some ultra politically correct notion really irritates the hell out of me.

I always chuckle heartily when I read a thread where OP asks something like "Is this offensive?"

It's so funny to me - some clown needing others to explain to him why he should be offended.

Someone gets offended that they can't offend other people.

Offendception.

urban dictionary to my rescue:

1. Kaaskop

Slang(can also be used offensively) for a Dutch person.

"Kaaskop" means "cheesehead" in Dutch.

Because the Netherlands is very well known for its cheese.
1.Canada maintains rather friendly relations with the Netherlands, because the Kaaskops see Canadians as their liberators during World War II.

What? Since when have straight, white men been known as sexist paedophiles? I mean, yeah, men are often accused of being sexist, not so bothered about that. But "we aren't safe to leave with kids?" Are you fucking kidding me?

That's incredibly offensive!

Internet forums are not real life and I get more and more annoyed by people that pretend they are.

So nothing has ever offended me. It's all just fodder to pass the day away.

I'm not offended just agitated. And no amount of crying will get me to stop saying something. That is whatever word they wake up one day and decide that it bothers them now.

how can a thing be offensive if it doesn't offend me?

Even if you aren't offended by the idea of Holocaust denial it's still obviously offensive. The same can be said with many other topics that have been discussed in GAFs past and many that are discussed weekly.

There is a thread right now where people are flabbergasted by 'Coon' being an offensive word.
