Wow, I thought that the higher the number was better. Thanks a lot guys! I had no idea my graphics card was that bad. But I got it from a pre-built computer for $550 so I guess I got what I paid for. Looks like it'll be a while before I buy a better card. In the mean time, I'm still going to play the few games I can play before they eventually go down to 1 FPS because of overheating.

Honestly, if you have a desktop, you can buy a $20-30 card and be better off than you currently are.

EDIT: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=747628&CatId=3670

For example, that card is 5x as good as what you have. $40. $15 after a mail-in rebate.

Thanks! I can't say no to $15. The way they name these cards is very confusing. I hope this really solves my problems and I can play some games I buy during the steam sale. Hopefully it gets here quick.

It's only confusing if you don't know the "secret" to decoding the numbers. There's a decent explanation on Yahoo Answers.

Of course, nowadays nVidia have switched to three digit numbers, but similar principles apply.

Just to let you know I was able to play all the games I have on steam with medium or high settings (depending on the game) with an nvidia 9800GT. Even Skyrim and Arkham City ran perfect on medium settings with that card.

Yeah, it was nice to see how that worked when I was researching cards last year. The more you know!

There are quite a few things which follow those kinds of number decoding rules.. not just nVidia cards but also ATI cards, and Intel processor numbers as well.

I wish I could pre-order Dishonored, Xcom: Enemy Unknown and Hitman: Absolution. I'm actually more interested in being able to do that than another Steam summer sale.

Why not do it on Greenmangaming with the -25% coupon? http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/nl/en/pc/games/action/hitman-absolution-2/

Is there a way to get Steam to keep downloading when I launch a game instead of automatically cutting out the D/L?
Alt-tab out and start the download again. Then alt-tab into the game again.

Fairly confident you can pre-order Hitman Absolution on Steam and GMG (at a better price currently, but potentially without pre-load)

So we are pretty much sure, that the Sale will start on 12th?

I just saw the Summer-event of Killing Floor is till 23rd and the estimated time of the summer-Sale was from 12th to 23rd, right?

ask Gabe via e-mail that you'd like to see them implement a checkbox feature that continues DLs witout stopping even when games are booted.

He responds, on valve time.

Yeah, I think the Killing Floor event usually started slightly before the steam sales.

It really saddens me that game makers think we're so fickle that we'd buy a game because they included some Valve or internet comedy reference.

I'm sure they'll just go "oh it's a bit of fun" but eh. It's just dumb to me. Do it as a subtle easter egg if you're going to do it.

There's nothing to buy.

Steam beta update under Steam>Settings.

Than after adding a shortcut to a nonsteam game you right click and set custom image. Pic needs to be like 460x215.

AFAIK it's now in the standard client, you don't have to opt into any beta any more.

The thread o' custom images is over here.

Sadly, still no custom images for List View.

I just finished the first episode of Adam's Venture (thanks to GATS for gifting it to me). I thought I'd post my expanded Steam review here since I know some people were asking about it and I was curious myself. Links are not really spoilers but show the embarrassing puzzles that make up the core of the game:

-------

Adam's Venture is a 3rd person 3D action puzzle adventure where you, your girlfriend and a famous professor have set up base camp at what you believe to be the gate to the Garden of Eden. Your job in this first episode is navigating the desert ruins below, solving puzzles along the way for the fragments needed to unlock the gate. The game clocks in at just over 2 hours, involves no combat & very little platforming.

This episode was an utter disappointment. The first thing you'll notice is movement & camera often work against each other, although you'll quickly adapt. The real letdown is the core content: childlike puzzles & linear exploration. Literally half the puzzles in the game are posts containing three phrases which you must rotate into order, and are insulting to the intelligence of anyone capable of reading. A slightly less offensive puzzle repeated throughout the game is a 3x3 grid of roman numerals where being able to add to X is vital. Only two original and interesting puzzles exist in the entire game, but are not enough to salvage it. Considering the genre and that the game makes no positive use of the 3d environment for exploration, puzzle or platforming purposes, it would have been better off as a mediocre point and click.

"Secrets" (hidden in plain sight) in the game come in the form of words you're supposed to input on the official site for bonus content; (un)fortunately, I only saw a place to input for episode two. Graphics are a mixed bag; I couldn't force the jaggies out no matter how I tried (Nvidia) and there were some extreme brights and pixel-rock-in-your-face moments. VA & writing were just as mixed with the professor's hollering and the game's attempt at humor making me cringe on a regular basis. Something positive: the limited soundtrack is surprisingly good and is reminiscent of something Medwyn Goodall would compose.

But this is the end of the 'venture for me. I'd probably recommend it to Joe, but expect most others would only find disappointment.

Yeah custom image is nifty. For instance I hate those annoying review scores in grid images like in Anomaly, so this works.

Wrong opinion Xelios.

Adam's Venture is straight up dope. I can't wait to eventually play episodes 2/3. I would say that the platforming/puzzles/characterizations are on par with Uncharted.

If it's as you say, I'm striking Uncharted off my list of games/series I have to check out. Adam's Venture is rubbish. I couldn't even recommend it to a 'fan of the genre'. (What platforming? What Characterization?)

Ignore me if this is commentary on Uncharted.

My work here is finished.
