Marcel likes plasma weapons exclusively and his favorite historical game type is 1:1 CTF on Blood Gulch with 50% speed and full invis for both 'teams'

Marcel L'Adapteur.
This sounds like the greatest gametype I have ever heard of, make sure this Marcel fellow gets a raise.

Chad hasn't worked at 343 for some months. But Kyle still needs a name to pin on someone not making the precise thing he likes, so he can post enthralling inflammatory posts, because they are the only things that spark discussion (which finally explains those little kids in high school who would sit in puddles or act out in the cafeteria) so I have invented a fake playlist manager named 'Marcel.'

Is it me or do the Promethean Knights look exceptionally goofy? I think the crawlers look great, and as is the design of the engineer things that sprout from the backs of Knights, but the Knights themselves look pretty awful, in my opinion.

I'm really not a fan of the UFO spaceship attached to their backs.

I'm really curious to see what their version of a hunter is going to be.

And what we will fight using that giant mech.

I like the idea from a functional perspective, the way the engineers sprout from their back, but it makes them look like onions, which just adds to how ridiculous they look. The skull face specifically at fault in this.

I have a questions about the HUD and would love it if frankie or anyone else at 343 could answer.

Any reason the compass and call out locations were removed? The compass was very subtle and really helped when it came to playing on new maps specifically forge maps since the first few times players may not really get a hang of things and the best possible call out would be "North Side _".

As for the call out locations it would really help when it comes to learning maps in general and give a better sense of communication both between experienced and new players alike. Bungie wanted us to be able to make our own call outs in forge using hill traits but it never made it in time. Granted people made their own call outs on the normal maps b/c the ones bungie set up were too complicated and too specific to remember but if they are made simple and easy to distinguish then it shouldn't be a problem.

I may be one of the few people who are concerned about this since I am an avid forger and map designer so it is just some of the things that help aid people when it comes to new maps and in general make the gameplay better in terms of map knowledge and communication.

Will we see this in Halo 4?

I can see why you would say that, but personally I like them. I agree that the crawlers are better, but I don't see anything particularly bad in the Knight's design.

It's the skull face design

Hmm. I do agree with you there.

Wait? You told me that the Singleplayer gameplay footage was not released officially. It is. But what are you trying to say now?

I thought the gameplay footage from comic con was yet to be released in HD quality(the video being played in theaters).

When you said "It has officially been released?" I thought you were asking me, not telling me.

That "backpack" could have been much smaller IMO. The only issue I have with the way they look is that giant spaceship/backpack. Everything else is fine.

They remind me a lot of the Guardians in Borderlands. Their movement, the light trails behind them, and their general shape.

Maybe if those Guardians became Inheritors.

Misunderstanding on both said. But still 343i or Microsoft have released Direct feed stuff.

It's the skull face design and the onion back pack specifically that make them look goofy to me. One thing I've always loved about the design of the covenant is that they weren't these overt evil beings, and rather very neutral looking aliens in cool armour. Look at the Elites without armour, the prophets with their gangly necks, the big blobby engineers strapped with explosives.

These Knights don't strike me as sophisticated enemy design in the same way. It's just 'evil skull face' connotes big baddy. And the backpack looks like a cape which is equally as obvious.

Might start calling them onions.

funny, i had the opposite opinion. the knights look entirely original and awesome, the crawlers look stupid and like something i've seen a hundred times before.

THANK YOU! Ever since I saw them for the first time I thought they looked familiar but I couldn't pin it down. I agree wholeheartedly; earily similar.

I see where you're coming from, but I think there's going to be more variety to the Prometheans than we've seen yet.

Thanks for posting. Great quality. The mission seems a little cramped for four players, at least for the first half of it, but as this would be the first time many people have played it, I guess it's for the best. We've seen the bigger SpOps missions through screenshots.

Looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to play.
Love the new pelican design at the end.

I think they are carrying the Watcher(The flying enemy which supports them) in the "onions".

I have started getting the hang of bumper jumper. I still have issues when I get in a tight situation and am trying to do 5 things at once while being shot, but I am getting there.

For 4 I plan to do bumper jumper, but have sprint on the left stick click, and crouch as a toggle on A or something.

Great. I like Bumper Jumper the most and I hope they switched sprint and AA to the A and X button. Crouch should always stay at LS, in my opinion.

For someone who originally disagreed with my assertion, you're doing an awfully good job of arguing it.

That's interesting. I was instantly drawn to the idea of a dog class enemy, so perhaps that helped me appreciate the design more, because I was particularly welcoming of it's inclusion.

Without the cape and the skull face that looks miles better, instantly. Have we figured out the differences between the blue and red yet? I know Dani was writing something up in that regard.
I think they are carrying the Watcher(The flying enemy which supports them) in the "onions".
I'm well aware, and as I've said I really like that idea, I just sort of hoped they'd take some sort of fictional liberties with that one and have the Watcher unfold out of them, rather than them needing a huge fuckoff backpack that makes them look like an onion.

They have weapons that expand and restructure themselves, why can't the watchers fold out of a small opening in their armour, rather than need a substantial backpack that distorts their silhouette immensely. Perhaps the whole onion shaped silhouette is part of the reason 343 chose the design, to differentiate the Knights on a basic level from the Elites.

Hmm, friend brought up a good point. What will the launch of the next Xbox do for Halo 4 next year? Think they will do a GOTY (of sorts) version of Halo 4 that is upgraded for the next system? Or just rely on backwards compatibility to keep people playing?

I will just quote my post from earlier today:

Regarding to the leaked documents it has full backwards compatibility. I really hope they don't change this feature. I would like to play some "oldschool" games in the future sometimes, too.

So, basically they will probably support all games to be compatible to the nextbox. Otherwise, they would lose players or would have to upgade their game and sell it as a new one, but I don't think people will buy it.

Are you a very recently approved member of neogaf?
Approved a few weeks ago but needed to gather the mental energy necessary to post on here.

What country are you posting from and what’s your current age.
United States; 20 years old

At what age did you get into Halo and with which game.
Halo 1 came out and I was 9(yeah I know). I got a Gamecube and my friend got an Xbox, I ended up playing Mad Dash with him for so many hours until he got Halo and thats when my life changed.

For how long have you been reading HaloGAF?
Lurking for about 3 years.

What’s your absolute favorite Halo campaign? And your favorite multiplayer?
Favorite Campaign and Mutiplayer was Halo 2. Campaign was great b/c of all the awesome scenery and atmosphere of Delta Halo as well as all the awesome glitches that would allows you to escape the levels. Multiplayer was simply amazing, reached a max level of 37 in Team Hardcore and will always be proud of that.

Highest Halo 3 level and which playlist.
Multiple 50's across multiple accounts. MLG 48 never got to a 50 b/c never played with a team.

AR or BR?
WTF would I want an AR when a BR destroys at all ranges?

Absolute favorite multiplayer map from Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and 3 (just one from each).
Halo: CE: Chiron TL-34
Halo 2: Backwash
Halo 3: Isolation

Least hated Reach mp map. (excluding Anniversary pack)
Asylum is an insult to forgers and players alike. Why the hell it hasn't been replaced by Refuge I will never know.
Anchor 9

Do you prefer BTB or MLG? (pre-Reach era)
Halo 2 Team Hardcore and Halo 3 MLG all the way.

Competitive multiplayer or Firefight?
LMFAO @ Firefight.

Games completed on solo Legendary.
All but Halo Wars. Achievement whore sitting pretty at 144k with over 85% completion so... yeah.

What are some of your favorite Campaign missions.
Least favorite is all of Reach. The campaign is an insult to what really happened in TFoR. I imagine the the perfect retcon for the terrible Reach campaign would be that it the version that the UNSC is teaching children in school b/c they don't want them to know what really happened. History is written by the survivors and the UNSC would rather lie about what happened then completely crush the hope of humanity with the truth.

Favorite Reach playlists.
Team Objective bar none. Flagstravaganza was great and played that 24/7... never played Reach matchmaking for so long since then. Slayer is so one dimensional.

Opinion on reticule bloom.
85% bloom is okay. No bloom would be good if the RoF of the DMR was tweaked so that it wouldn't make the rest of the sandbox useless. Well, instead of a RoF decrease to the DMR I'd rather see all the other weapons get a buff to make it faster and fun.

Opinion on Armor Abilities and the one you usually end up picking.
Jet Pack... why are you in the game? Hologram... why are you useless? Armor Lock... broken before the patch balanced after the patch. Evade was overpowered, drop shield was worse than Armor Lock. Sprint is the only balanced AA and it is still poorly executed.

Why are you a Halo fan?
Good story, great gameplay, amazing social experience.

Favorite HaloGAFfer, and least favorite (besides Dax).
Bnet and Waypoint have too much trash hence why Frankie and the rest of the 343 guys post here. xxJuicesxx is a smart guy, someone should hire him ;P

Now feel free to introduce yourself and/or share anything you want so we get to know you better, some of us would enjoy reading it.
Spend way too much time writing about Halo. Analyzing every single little thing that makes the game function and seeing if it can be improved. Just my un-devoted love for Halo making be write dozens and dozens of pages about this game.

Reach was a disappointment so the first thing I did when I realized this was to get some good remakes and traditional gameplay going. Eventually it lead me to others who shared the same views and goals and eventually the Team Classic thing happened. Unfortunately it was short lived but I entirely blame Jeremiah for it since he completely butchered the settings and by the time they were fixed the following month few people were playing it.

Hopefully the community won't have to pull teeth in order to get Classic gameplay for Halo 4.

Aside from that I live in NYC and am a full time college student which gives me a lot(too much) time to play Halo and whatnot. Reach almost made me quit but then I got into forging and it sucked me back in.

Are you a very recently approved member of neogaf?
I was approved today im so excite. I love Haloagf and I need new XBL freinds. Plus I just got a new mic so im ready to receive.

What country are you posting from and what’s your current age.
I love in the USA. I am 29.

At what age did you get into Halo and with which game.
Iv done alot of drinking since I started playing Halo CE. I made friends with a guy at work around age 19. We got really drunk he turned on this magical moded xbox thing proceeded to lay my ass out with they pisol all night for his own enjoyment. I was determined to get better and beat him. Dont think it happend but alot of drunkn nights of that and I have been hooked.

For how long have you been reading HaloGAF?
Not very long about a month. I got lucky I guess.

What’s your absolute favorite Halo campaign? And your favorite multiplayer?
Halo 2 Halo 2. Just hours of my life wasted away perfecting super jumps. Halo is seriously the only game I play.

Highest Halo 3 level and which playlist.
Double Team 47.

AR or BR?
BR all the way. I feel like such a noob when I kill someone with a AR. Its so easy to do no skill in that weapon at all.

Absolute favorite multiplayer map from Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and 3 (just one from each).
Hang em High, Lockout, Pit.

Least hated Reach mp map. (excluding Anniversary pack)
pinnacle.

Do you prefer BTB or MLG? (pre-Reach era)
I was never into eather play list. More of a ranked team slayer lone wolf type of guy.

Competitive multiplayer or Firefight?
Im a lazy Competitive player. I want to win but I find my self not putiing 100% into every game I play. I moslty go in alone If I was to play with a team then Im 100% competitive. Plus Reach just dosn't make me want to try all that much.

Games completed on solo Legendary.
None I tryed once it was crap I gave up. Im not much of a campaign player. One playthrough is all i need.

Favorite Reach playlists.
Anniversary Classic

Opinion on reticule bloom.
Very unpredictable.

Opinion on Armor Abilities and the one you usually end up picking.
I use sprint. I hate jetpack more then armor lock. I cant use jet pack due to bumper jumper.

Why are you a Halo fan?
There is no other game out there to where I can watch a new trailer and get chills.

Favorite HaloGAFfer, and least favorite (besides Dax).
This community is awesome I have nothing bad to say about it. I lurked, loved, and laughed, at the threads. I so happy I can join in on the covos now.

That looked awesome! I see they have a new model for the pelican maybe? I hope its got better armor so it doesn't get one shot by a banshee.

Silly new guy.

The laws of plot demand a Pelican be downed whenever it is necessary to resupply the player :) Armor won't make a bit of difference.

I know you're talking about how they look aesthetically, but the bulk of a Watcher on their back may well be for gameplay purposes so you can see from a distance if a Knight has a Watcher with him. As you say, it changes their silhouette substantially and this may be intentional.

So far as I'm aware we don't yet know what the deal with the blue Prometheans is, but I think it's fair to assume they're friendly given the colour systems previous Halos have used to denote friends and foes.
