So you really want whoever comes next to keep making sombre, morose Batman movies? Don't get me wrong, it worked wonderfully for Nolan, but that was Nolan. New director, new vision, new direction please.

Batman IS sombre and morose. If you want fantastical and light hearted from DC and Warner, a great Flash or Green Lantern movie would be a better fit. IF DONE WELL.

Batman Beyond to me is a really intriguing idea. But how do you do that as a film? Do you spend half the movie developing Bruce as Batman, then have a major timejump, then spend the second half developing Terry? Or just jump out of the gates with Terry?

Batman Beyond would make for a good WB television series, nothing more IMO.

It's about tone. B89 and TDKR feature the same character, yet share absolutely nothing else in common. To me, the same should hopefully be able to be said in 5 years between TDKR and the next Batman film.

Why couldn't it be done just like the show? Open with Bruce's last outing as Batman, and jump to Terry.

Loved the movie.
Banes voice was borderline comical at first(never saw the trailers) but then it got sinister real fast.
He just had a physical presence that made the character. If his voice was typically gritty, he'd sound like your typical comic movie goon/thug.
Him sounding like Einstein while being scary as trucks was genious, imo.
JGL was great, as was Annie.
Bale was way better as Wayne this time around.
I thought Miranda might be Talia early in, when i heard her accent, but then decided they wouldn't do that....
But i forgot the rule of the trilogy....it all goes back to the beginning.
Loved the end, but rather JGL go into nightwing path than the Batman.
He could train, he's around the same age as Bruce was when he went on his exodus.
The best part of Batman has always been the bat family, and his propensity towards enlarging it.

Oh, and this movie squashes Avengers.

For one, i'm not in love with Robert Downey like the rest of the world seems to be, and it all just seemed so power rangery with the costumes and the quips.

This movie had gravitas to it, all three did actually, and while none are perfect, i respect the vision of what they tried to do, way more than Marvels easy swing mo.

Marvel movies feel like saturday morning cartoons, and thats fine for those who wish they still had those to turn on at 9am saturdays, whereas the nolan bat movies feel like actual films, via the cinematography and all.

Enjoy both, but one imo is a league above easily.

I liked the idea someone else mentioned of an HBO-style long form television series instead of another movie reboot. Probably not really a possibility but that might be pretty cool

But thats obvious.

This is a 90 pound female beating the shit out of skilled men WTF.How did she get so good.Practice?lol.Doesnt make sense.

Backstory would have done nicely

I kind of feel like you're just playing devil's advocate... surely you know that for every catch-22 you bring up, there will be an answer that is satisfactory to most people? You can infer that her inclination toward theft, as shown by an extensive criminal record as well as jail time, invoked her flight-or-fight response during several run-ins which forced her to either learn to defend herself, escape the situation, or end up on the receiving end of a good pummeling. After presumably a decade plus of that kind of life, I'd imagine you become rather competent at making hasty escapes or incapacitating any threat when you're cornered. If you would use a bit of thought and imagination toward the more nebulous parts of the film instead of instantly casting aside any detail that isn't spelled out in granite you may have found yourself enjoying the movie, and all movies, a bit more.

WB needs to go in a completely fresh direction now. Trying to mimic the Nolan movies without Nolan will only result in epic failure. Go in the opposite direction. Let's go more fantastical, more visual, more lively.

Just not as weird as Burton again please.

Start with Terry. Flashbacks to flesh out old man Bruce. Pretend the crowd at least knows basic Batman knowledge. They could safely do that seeing as how popular these last movies were.

you can have Batman be Batman but I would still ove to see Man Bat, Clayface and the rest of Batman's more horrific members of his rogues gallery

and make him a fuckin detective that has a contingency plans for contingency plans

Batman should have been more clever in the use of his utility belt when brute strength wasnt working for him

TAS writers or GTFO

Do it like the pilot for the show. Everybody in the world knows who Bruce Wayne is at this point, he doesn't need much establishing.

Quick question; is it a bannable offense to post a link to a recording from the IMAX prologue last year? I want to use it as a comparison with the voice in the present movie.

Seriously what is with the juniors today. Has GAF let in a bunch of assholish juniors, have standards drop this far. I swear mostly every asinine comment about today's situation is from juniors.

I want to see some Black Mask, Hugo Strange, and a more serious take on Mr. Freeze up in this bitch.

Mr. Freeze deserves justice.

We wanted:

urx1F.jpg

"This is how I shall always remember you: surrounded by winter, forever young, forever beautiful. Rest well, my love. The monster who took you from me will soon learn that revenge is a dish best served cold."

and got, well, DA ICE AGE.

Beyond works because it could be a sequel to most takes on Batman. Just by setting it in the future gives them leeway to keep it grounded and introduce fantastical elements as technology. Without deviating too far, I can buy a Mr. Freeze in a the near future more than modern times.

That's one take I wouldn't mind. On the other hand, I'd love a live action 1940s period Batman. Something along the lines of Batman TAS in live action. I'd want it to feel LA Confidential.

But yeah, don't step on Nolan trilogy's toes. Do something different or creatively work around it. My ideas of creatively are "TAKE IT TO THE FUTURE" and "TAKE IT TO THE PAST," so not very creative at all. Hopefully they can come up with something better.

Just came back from watching the premiere an hour ago with a group of the boys, and I enjoyed the hell out of the movie, wow.

Reading through the thread, I found it strange that so many of you couldn't understand Bane - in fact, in my IMAX theater his voice was standing out loud and clear in most of his scenes, and when it wasn't, I still understood every single line clearly.

The movie was really put together very well from beginning to end - Alfred knowing that Bruce wasn't sharp, Bruce in denial the whole time even though he still got pick-pocketed by Catwoman when he knew what she was capable of, her disappearing on him, until Bane shattered his fantasy literally, by showing that he was out of it after staying quiet for eight long years.

And Bane? What a boss. Nolan and Hardy really made him into something else, and I loved him. The accent really took off in this movie, in the trailers I just accepted it, but he really pulled it off with that swagger and all.

I also liked that every twist in the movie was preluded by an obvious hint so it didn't just seem like some movie magic twist, like the scar on Thalia's back, me seeing that it was Hardy's figure and build getting the kid, to the wall to climb out, and how Batman survived at the end due to the autopilot being fixed by Bruce himself.

The first Bane fight was just brutally good - the weakness of being out of the game for eight years made it so one-sided, Batman just got straight-up wrecked. You knew he was thinking, "Alfred was right" as he was lying there. I also liked that Bruce getting better and stronger wasn't rushed, and that Gotham wasn't magically saved the next day, and that the key to getting out wasn't a cop out, it was just as how the one other person got out of the prison, and it made perfect sense - build the fear of falling to your death by getting rid of the safety of the rope.

Joker not being mentioned at all, I see it as out of respect for not getting a "cheap pop" to use wrestling fan terms, even if it was for one sentence, to not piggyback on him to play up fans. I liked that.

Also loved the unexpected return of Scarecrow - pretty nice to be in all three movies like that.

JGL's name being Robin is just a wink to fans, because it could be anything, anything at all - even if it's him just having access to an amazing network of resources.

So much more I wanna talk about, but all in all, I loved the movie.

Gonna run through the pages in here to see what people were posting.

Well it's not like there's an entrance exam. But shits like Amuroray and that one other that joked about the killings make me wish for member/GafGold status.

I just remembered......Crane as the Judge was fucking brilliant. With the torn/tattered suit and the desks stacked up ridiculously....God....They did a fantastic job of bringing these villains to life.

I can't even begin to think about how awesome Nolan's version of Victor Fries could be.

Marvel movies? Yeah, I do. But these Batman flicks were a bit more grounded and different from the rest. Can't say I have a problem with one coming out every three or four years.

And even if they didn't take their material from comics, popcorn flicks would still be popcorn flicks.

I hafta say this TDKR was my favorite of the trilogy. It's not the best movie ever. Maybe not even of the year (loved Moonrise Kingdom). But collected together as a series, this is my favorite comic book movie.

I think I'm ok with the series ending here.

EDIT: I mean, I would've liked Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Poison Ivy, e.t.c. but I think to make more films in this series, no matter how good they might be, would compromise the integrity of the three that we have.

We should thank these juniors' stupidity in revealing their true colors so early. It weeds them out.

I feel like TDKR was about as close as you can get to TDKR without doing a straight adaptation of it.
