My RHAS BEGINS screenplay will now have to incorporate Miranda and the raiding of the prison into it. Goddamn you, Nolan! I wanted carte blanche!

Ra's. Ra's.

Also apparently the "correct" way to say it is "Raysh" as the animated series and Arkham City do...

But screw that.

It was great that we essentially got to see a 'batman and robin' working together without it going full costume. Really well done.

Fuck was Bane's first beat down of Bats brutal. Best version of Bane yet, as well. Too bad there were still some voice issues, because he had some great lines.

Hathaway absolutely nailed Catwoman.

Talia reveal was spoiled long ago. Did not see the kid switch coming though.

Caine was great. Emotional Alfred is second only to Snarky Alfred.

Talia death scene was awkward.

Last few minutes were really a nice way to tie it up.

oh and by the way, I found the equivalent of the "weird face dude during Dent's speech" in this movie. When the prisoners are cheering on Bruce as he climbs out of the prison, one of the dude's in front with long hair and a goatee is having the time of his life.

It's not even close to perfect, and I had issues with some things but I don't give a fuck. This movie had way more "Fuck yeah, Batman!" moments for me than TDK. I probably need a rewatch, but as of right now...(this could EASILY change, I'm still on a TDKR high so I'm not to be trusted)

BB > TDKR > TDK

Yes, TDKR actually made me love Begins more. I JUST TURNED HEEL ON TDK! I WAS THE 3RD MAN!

Yeah, I've seen him mentioned a few times. He was living his life vicariously through Bruce's triumphs.

Dead

well not really...yet

LOL. I noticed that dude too. Was realllllly out of place.

TDKR >= TDK > BB. As of right now. I think TDKR is a more flawed film than TDK, but it hits much higher highs and I think I like it more on a personal level.

At the end when they showed Alfred I thought he was going to pull an inception on us and not show Bruce. But have Alfred give a look that didn't give it away.

I feel that...TDKR is the worst of the trilogy, but it is also the best of the trilogy.

What do you think of my analysis, guys?

That was my initial diagnosis. From a pure plotting/editing perspective, its kind of a mess. But then it hits these moments of sublime character moments and scenes and Im just floored.

TDK>TDKR>>>BB

Maybe I should rewatch Begins since Rises ties so heavily into it but I seriously don't remember it being as good as the latter two films. Still great, especially coming off of fucking Batman & Robin and every atrocious non-Spidey Marvel/Catwoman movie coming out, but Nolan got more into groove of making big action blockbusters with TDK onwards.

Fuck, now I'm going to be looking for him when I see the movie again.

I was somewhat surprised at Alfred's subtlety in that scene.. his reaction at seeing Bruce was either:

1. His mental manifestation of his vision
2. He was in on it at some time between the grave scene and the end.

I'll be seeing it again tomorrow night, but as of this moment:

TDK > BB > TDKR.

That could change upon a second viewing.

I really liked the movie, and thought it had great closure. Sad to see the Nolan Batverse go.

We need to hand Batman over to screenwriter who writes thrillers/mysteries. Part of me says let Moffat have a run at it. He's done Sherlock pretty well so he at least gets how to write an intelligent character....

Whatchu talkin bout? Alfred smiles and nods in Bruce's direction, and Bruce smiles and nods back. There's no ambiguity about it brah.

EDIT: Half the theme of the movie is Bruce finding the desire to live again after what happened in the second movie. He got his fresh start, and saved the city. If it was the a daydream on Alfred's part the ending wouldn't make any sense.

I can see what you mean.

I can't co-sign on this but it is the best 3rd movie in in any trilogy ever and this would be the most rock solid trilogy I have ever seen if not for Tom Cruise.

:(

Also, I was completely stunned that we got a 'breaks the back' moment with Bane. I honestly didn't think we'd see it for whatever reason. Nice comic book nod and I thought it actually worked well.

I decided to see it on a whim. This is the first time I've actually seen a movie on the opening day in forever and a day.

I don't know how I felt about it. I enjoyed the booms and bangs and whatnot, but I just felt a bit disconnected from the proceedings. I haven't quite figured out why yet, but I think it might have something to do with the sense of, I guess, disjointedness.

I'm also not sure I bought the character development in Bruce Wayne. It might be because I am importing my understanding of the character from the handful of comics I have read and B:TAS, but I have always thought of him as a singularly obsessed man, and quite past being able to simply let go completely the way he is portrayed as doing at the end of the film. It's nice seeing him happy, but I'm just not sure I bought it.

On balance, I think I enjoyed it, but I just don't think everything quite clicked for me.

Actually TAS was what always made me believe that Bruce could find happiness and put aside this life.

It was kind of the point of Mask of the Phantasm, that he had a chance for happiness but it was taken away from him again

Then there was the TNBA episode where he literally hangs up Batman so that he can marry the love of his life.. who ends up being a poison ivy construct.

Marion being Talia was literally the first piece of speculation I heard when she was cast. And this was LONG before any kind of spoilers could have leaked. And the second JGL was cast, most people said (jokingly!) that he would be Robin.

Well what do ya know?!

:lol

JGL being in the movie never bothered me up until the reveal that he was the successor to the cowl. I enjoyed him in the movie and thought his role would play differently. People made jokes about him being Robin was because it was absurd and I still think that. I was wondering why he was getting so much screen time and his character conclusion just left a bitter taste for me. This is coming for a guy who has a mancrush on him just like the rest of Gaf. Ultimately I thought his role in the movie was to be an influence to Bruce Wayne that you didn't need a mask to save others.

Do you think your feelings will change over the next few months? Will the impact of those emotional character moments lose their effect when weighed against the flaws? We're still basking in the glow of the experience. I think that tends to color my perception. That, and the thought that this is it, it's the last hoorah.

Am I the only one who found it odd just how much about Ra's Al Ghul Alfred was and how he seemed to know even more than Bruce did at the start?

It just felt kinda weird.

Hahah i saw that too. I know exactly who you are talking about.

I kind of wish this is how it happened now.

Haha, sorry. It's just the second I saw him in the same exact setting I thought to myself of the Inception ending. I didn't think he would just outright show it. I'm not sure which I would have liked better. I know I like how they did it but I think I would have liked it for other reasons to leave it up in the air.

After burying him and fully accepting that he has died? I doubt the restaurant scene was the first reunion since their parting at Wayne manor - Bruce must have told Alfred after that point sometime that he was leaving Gotham, at the very least.

TAS is canon in all things. I refuse to accept this lie.

As a mostly Marvel reader TAS is the one thing I'm super jealous of as a fan. I'd trade a million Marvel movieverses if it meant we got an animated saga that lasted as long and had as much quality as the whole DCAU.

BTW for all you detective folks, I don't want to see Batman playing Nancy Drew in movies. I want him kicking ass. Save that shit for a Batman TV show with a low budget :p

it gave a sense that stuff actually happened in those 8 years, and that they talk to each other about things and that most importantly, Alfred cares so much about bruce the dude probably did mad research on the subject lol. Also gives the sense that Alfred does other things than bring bruce food and do his bed and give wise advice.
