Since its LTD was around 640k last month, yes.

EDIT: How is it possible both DS and 3DS rose compared to last month, since last month it was a 5-weeks month, while this one was a 4-weeks month. How. O_O

Oh right, we have June 2012 numbers.

Geez. How many of those games are from THIS year? 4?

I can't say I blame anyone. The first 7 months of this year has just been awful for new game releases. The only 2 good games I've played are either digital exclusive or they lean more into digital.

Thankfully the last 5 months pick up quite a bit.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Did they release those new DSi colors yet?

I'm wondering too. I've never seen a copy of that OR Pokemon Conquest >_<

DSi colors have been announced on 31st July, so after the July's NPD period ended. They'll be considered in July.

Pokèmon Conquest, as already said, is 9th in the Individual SKU chart.

BUT WHERE'S THEATRHYTHM :(

The 3DS increased this month? Even though it's a 4-week month? Even though the XL is coming out?

Rhythm Thief is a system seller?
inb4 theatrhythm fanboys and girls

155k for 3DS? Truly, Rhythm Thief is responsible for that increase from last year!

...Rhythm Thief probably didn't sell even a tenth of what Theatrhythm did :(

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I don't see why people are ragging on what's on the list. Literally NOTHING has been coming out, it's been a pathetic summer of releases, even moreso than usual.

And with digital sales tacked on, market will still be up in single digit percentages overall.

Dead Island hahahahaha

US game market is dead

It had a GOTY release and it was deeply discounted all over. I don't get why that's funny.

Is this really what American gamers buy? Oh, dear.

Really? Take that stuff somewhere else.

That's one reason some publishers would be just as happy if those releasing new consoles weren't, shall we say, overly concerned about backwards compatibility.

Amen, brother. PSP backwards compatibility sure as shit hasn't helped Vita sales, HW or SW.

An often unmentioned benefit of switching console generations is that the back catalog is no longer there.

That's one reason some publishers would be just as happy if those releasing new consoles weren't, shall we say, overly concerned about backwards compatibility.

Next gen blues =(

.

The problem is bigger than that though. The casual base that has supported the industry is tired of these consoles and are finding entertainment for much cheaper elsewhere. The fact that the PS3 is 250 and 360 is 199 is crazy. The base 360 should be like 125 and there should definitely be a 199 PS3.

Anita's MOM unit observation about DS and 3DS being higher doesn't look right. Need to wait and see if Nintendo mentions its numbers publicly.

Good games have been releasing on psn and xbla this month.

Anyways Darksiders 2/Sleeping Dog will be interesting next month.

"Of the hardware platforms that were on the market last July, only one, the 3DS, realized a unit sales increase over last year. Both the DS and the 3DS, however, realized a month-over-month unit sales increase over June 2012 while the other platforms declined," she said."

I know that's in the OP as giving 3DS over 155K and DS over 150K, but wouldn't that also imply Wii under 95K and Vita+PSP under 100K at least as some sort of general bound?
Although, a month-over-month decline isn't too surprising considering this is a 4-week month as opposed to last month being a 5-week month, and hopefully we can get something a bit more specific, but still.

And I read somewhere Minecraft XBLA is selling like hotcakes right now, 17k per day supposedly.

You do the math but minecraft alone has pulled a ton of dollars out of retail the last three months.

The key here is going to be if Nintendo releases its numbers. I think that Anita misspoke in her statement as the data I see does not show a MOM increase for either platform. I am hoping to find out if it's my snapshot that's wrong or if it was an error.

old news. wii is probably 70k or less in fact based on bits of infos.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.

Pretty much everywhere that isn't called Japan's game market is dead

Fixed for the current state of the market.

Between the EU financial crisis, the UK recession, the US not exactly motoring on and a market that probably has reached critical when it comes to the current gen consoles, we're in for a rocky time for the next year or two as an industry.

Yes, there's still games coming out that'll shift units, but people are tiring of consoles, the 3DS isn't lighting up the sales charts (Yes, I know the XL isn't out in the US, but that's not a long term solution as evidenced by the UK's reaction to it) and the Vita is utterly dead.

If the WiiU bombs for not being "next generation" enough, we may as well write off another year, and hope the PS4 and Xbox Loop/720/Infinity/Tasty re-ignites the market.

You're excused if you live in Japan :p

Now I'm really curious about those Vita sales. Everyone's dying to know!

I live in the states. Sorry for the negativity, just shocked at that list.

10/10 are Western developed
8/10 have "realistic" art styles
The same 8/10 don't have a very diverse color palette
I need to look at the list again but I don't think there are more than 3 genres represented
Pretty sure all 10/10 are sequels and/or rereleases

Just not a very diverse list. It's no wonder that every game that gets announced looks the same.

Sleeping Dogs is going to bomb so hard. I'm worried about Darksiders 2 as well. I just don' tthink many people are interested in buying games at full price anymore except for special occasions.

She's probably referring to weekly sales increase (July vs. June).

Maybe Anita is referirng to increase in weekly average.

Maybe she meant weekly average ?

That is exactly what I am thinking. But, unless Nintendo comes out with its data, there's no way to tell.

EDIT: Thanks to everyone for pointing out the weekly average variable. You all rock.

EDIT 2: Weekly average variable for July does figure higher than June, based on quick calculations.

jesus christ dead island

either the video game industry is dying or (more likely) retail is mattering less and less every month

still, 203k for the #1 console -- you can tell it's year 7 of this cycle
