Water is not wet!
Well now i know who specifically to blame for Diablo 3's failure to be a fun game.
I think you're analysis is correct, but you're projecting venom onto Breivek's statements that simply aren't there. It's not "shitting on". It's harsh criticism that might be a bitter pill for Wilson to take, but Wilson's an adult who should be able to handle it.

ElyrionX - you are making the same mistake Jay did. You are taking this stuff way too personally. What he said is true: teams and talent matter. Jay posted the first words that entered his brain and that's a stupid thing to do in any heated situation. You cannot lose your cool like that as a very public figure for a well-known game company.

I disagree simply because I think Diablo 3 is an amazing game and is a worthy successor to Diablo 2. I know many people don't share this view and the disappointment with Diablo 3 is certainly palpable on these forums and elsewhere.
David Brevik obviously knows that many people are disappointed with Diablo 3 and so when he says this:
He's implying that only now (after the disaster of Diablo 3) are people realizing just how "talented" and "special" he and his team were.
I don't think anyone would deny that the Diablo 2 team is talented. How can anyone doubt that given how incredible that game was and how long it lasted. But why is it that it has only "come to light" now after Diablo 3 was released? Obviously, he's saying that Diablo 3 is shit compared to Diablo 2 and then he says:
Here, he is saying that Diablo 3 changed (for the worse) because of the people (him and his team) who left and given the reception that Diablo 3 has had, he's implying that the current team couldn't do it because his team isn't around anymore.
If that's not shitting on the D3 team, then I really don't know what is.
I wish I could like this video more than once

He never said Blizzard Irvine wasn't talented, he said they didn't have the talent in making Diablo games, which is 100% true. However you have people in here spinning that statement to make him sound like the Anti-Christ.
The original Brevik quote and this reaction really sum up the difference between the original Diablos and 3.
One is nuanced and carefully constructed. The other was shat out.
I've already said here that I believe Jay Wilson was unprofessional in his response and it was a clear PR mistake.
And no, I am not taking it personally. I just find it ridiculous that people are not seeing the clear underlying intent behind David Brevik's words and painting him as "polite" and "articulate" in here.
If I was Jay Wilson, I would definitely have taken it personally. How can he not? The guy basically just insulted him and his entire team.
No, no one is doing that.
But some of us are saying that the interview does comesacross as arrogant, and that we can understand that the Blizzard folk are annoyed at that, even though some of their responses are not ok.
I am sure it was not the first time they read some "insults" about the team. Sure it's weirder because it is the D1/2 director, but come on. Your game sold millions.
That is one hell of a Blizzard circlejerk going on in that Facebook.
Erm, no shit? Isn't that what Facebook and other social networking tools are for? You use them to interact with friends. Their mistake seems to be having it public as well.
Just because I'm friends with people doesn't mean I pat them on the back everytime someone says something bad about them. Is that what you use network tools for?

One worked on Diablo 1 and 2, the other on 3.
You mean that you should take just take anything being thrown at you because the game you worked on sold well?
Precisely. People are taking Jay Wilson's remarks as if he posted them on the Blizzard website. But that was on FB, a social networking site where I presume he didn't open his account up as a public figure.
The mistake wasn't in making the remarks he made. The mistake was in believing that the remarks he made were made completely in private and would have remained so.

You'Re reading too much between those lines.Polite? You call this shit polite?
He may have tried to sound polite and politically correct on the surface but just read between those lines and you can tell what he really thinks of himself ("special" and "talented") and what he thinks of the D3 dev team (utter shit).
God the guy didn't even bash D3 he just stated what he thought they did wrong. Why did they become so hostile?

But if you watched the video interview, he does come off as polite and articulate.
Given the questions he was asked in the interview, at least he answered them honestly.

But did he really believe they were being made in private? He can't be that dumb right?
that brevik interview was a glimpse of what gaming as a genuinely artistic creative medium would look like, the blizzard reaction is a reminder of the petulant incestuous corporate snake pit it has become.
I did watch the video interview. Sure, he does come across as polite and articulate. But are you really that naive to taking everything that is thrown at you at face value? Just because he came across as polite and articulate, does it not matter that his words contained a subtle undertone of arrogance and ill intent? I only wish all human interactions were so simple and blunt. My life would certainly be a lot easier if it were like that.
All the Blizz employees in the conversation are acting like dumb asses. They took the comments Brevik made and responded with insults, middle school level burns, and arrogance. Brevik did make some arrogant statements himself, but he did the whole interview like a gentlemen as opposed the fucking comments by the Breakfast Club here. Also about the talent statement, he said that Blizzard Irvine didn't have the talent "for the genre Diablo falls under." Know why? Because everyone that was a part of Blizzard that had a big part in creating Diablo and Diablo II bailed when they were told themselves to scrap their vision of Diablo III and fuck off by Vivendi.
He never said Blizzard Irvine wasn't talented, he said they didn't have the talent in making Diablo games, which is 100% true. However you have people in here spinning that statement to make him sound like the Anti-Christ. All in all, this is not "one man" making a stupid comment. This a several Blizzard employees turning a non situation into a raging fire because they can't keep their fucking mouths shut. Everyone involved with that Facebook wall should be fucking ashamed of themselves for making such jack asses of themselves when all they needed to do was go offline.
But hey, always online is a bitch ain't it.

Well, considering that he would need to be even more stupid to have made that post while knowing that it could potentially go public, I am assuming that he thought otherwise.

You can't be serious about defending this.
