Halo |OT8| A Salt on the Control Room

Wait. Let me get this straight. MLG has a tournament where the finalists decided to essentially split their money and throw the game? In a situation where one of them is supposed to win and take it all?

And they want to be viewed as a real league?

Why do they still have a playlist in any Halo game?

This isn't MLG fault.

In regards to SC2, yes, they are viewed as a real league. LoL, not so much, but that's because of lower payouts, less competitors and generally less support from Riot (which is why the two largest NA teams didn't even show up to Raleigh.) In regards to this situation, not exactly sure how any blame can be put on MLG.

The finals game of the league of legends tournament this weekend the two teams decided to split the money and just play a silly gametype. MLG said no bueno and both teams got nothing, I think 3rd and 4th got the payouts.

why they were able to play their silly gametype or choose it at all I have no idea.

um a group of people choosing to throw the game is not MLG's fault.

When your teams decided to throw the final in attempt to split the money and at no time does anyone think "we're going to be smacked down for this", your league is starting to lose it's ability to discipline/control over it's proceedings. Even if they removed the prizes after they found out what they were doing, the teams were still allowed to make a mockery of their tourney final.

it should go back to being team hardcore. allow mlg to have input but 343 gets final dibs on what gets into matchmaking

Mmhmm.

The next game I got to customize my load out before the game loaded, so I opted for BR, magnum, promethean vision and the perks or whatever they're called that give you a radar while scoped in and one that increases the shield recharge rate.
Nice write-up.

Quick question, what exactly did the shield recharge perk give you, decreased time before recharge starts, higher recharge rate, or both?

MLG looks packed compared to the last one I went to with just Halo. Halo became a small joke they put in the corner at the second or third MLG after they started playing SC with the Korean pros IIRC.

You're forgetting where MLG gave Halo a shot with the ZB gametypes in Columbus (I believe), the whole thing was packed, loud as hell, and the fans came out in support and MLG said it still wasn't good enough. In other words, they had already made up their minds and couldn't care less about how competitive or successful a Halo competition was. SC2 was bringing them plenty of cash, so they figured why bother?

Seemed to be decreased time before charging began.

Hmm, I was hoping that wasn't the case. I think. Either option sounds kind of annoying, although I don't know which one sounds worse. Eh, I doubt it will be too bad in most situations.

Thanks for the answer.

Seriously, it must be annoying that the MLG community can't get their own new maps into their own playlist because the higher ups that have the ability to give 343 new maps to put in just don't care.

I can tell you right now, if the MLG community can think of a way to compile a map list, vet those maps, test them and such, the CC would be glad to relay to them to 343 for an update if we could. MLG higher ups will probably hold onto their indifference with an iron grip, though.

LOL SUCH STRATEGIC EPIC ADAPTION

Have they told us if its possible to shoot the thing on the ground?
Pretty sure it sticks to anything, hence the name.
:(
I still can't believe how they haven't showed a single forge made map.

I just want to see of it'll be a huge grey mess all over again...
Why would you want to see a grey mess when there are 7 real maps that haven't been shown?

Forge maps pls die in a fire!

He's talking about being able to shoot it and make it explode once it's already stuck to the ground. Like a cooking grenade.

I think that's the only way it works. Once it sticks to something (player, vehicle, walls, floor, a rock), then you pull the trigger again and it detonates.

No... He's asking if I shot the SD grenade on the ground, could you (or anyone else) run up and shoot it causing an explosion before I detonated it.

Camera is about as figured out as it's going to get. Found using Tv mode is going to work best for me. Did a crash course on photography and read through the manual online tonight.

PAX photos will be incoming.

Is there a good place to share an album? Should I just make a public album on my Picasa page?

This isn't really a hard question, he's wondering if shooting the grenade with a gun will detonate it. So you can see the trap and shoot it before you get close.

Would definitely be a big problem in Reach without bleedthrough.. That split second would be so annoying!

Thankfully Halo 4 has bleedthrough. Right? Right?

I believe you and Steelyuhas are saying the same exact thing.. You're just getting confused with his wording.

It's plenty fun proving that you're the best, so quit it with this false dichotomy. Splitting the pot is always a shitty thing to do regardless of event or league and defending it under that premise is asinine. People don't want to watch grand finals of people dicking around with no consequence.

Believe it or not there's more to gaming than just "winning".

Crazy thought right?

I don't have a problem with MLG. Just not how I play.

Min.us doesn't compress your shots to shit and has more file type support.
It has Drag and drop support and good album support as well.
Also, video clips can be added to/in-between albums.

i didn't know imgur compressed photos. probably gonna try out min.us from now on.

Yeah. Rigging a match so you can get a higher placement than you would if you lost, but you still advanced anyway.

Getting so full of yourself that you not only bribe another team into throwing a game but also play it as a "joke" gametype (from what I understand of what LoL game type they played) shows a level of conceit that would make Guilty Spark blush. And he can't even blush.

The finals. Of a competition. In a "competitive" league. WTF are you trying to say?

The entire point is to find "the best". Pretty sure their goal should be to win.

He's not. Tawpgun was asking if you could shoot someone elses grenade. This is pretty cut and dry here.

Under the banner of competitive gaming, though?

The comments section of the article about them not giving prize money is mostly everyone railing MLG, and that it was the best match of the weekend.

Every body put your fun away, here comes the fun police.

This would be like going to the NBA finals, and the two last teams decided prior to the match who was going to win, and were going to split the winnings/title/all that jazz.

Oh, and they played HORSE instead of actually playing the game.

I'm not exactly sure why you're arguing this.

That's all I'm going to say on the matter, because I wasn't going to get involved and I'm going to bed, but you're being real obnoxious about this, so I threw in my 2 cents.

Steelyuhas (how I read it) thought he was asking if you can just straight up shoot it on the ground and stick.

He's talking about being able to shoot it and make it explode once it's already stuck to the ground. Like a cooking grenade.

I think that's the only way it works. Once it sticks to something (player, vehicle, walls, floor, a rock), then you pull the trigger again and it detonates.

Now Steel is saying that you can't (as in you can only explode it by remote detonation), then also says how it sticks to anything. Seems like you guys are just getting confused because he was confused at what Tawpgun was really asking, even though you're all on the same page anyway.

..or am I missing something? lol

Christ. I'm not even a big competitive gaming guy, but it's pretty clear that what they did was not appropriate. If you want to screw around and have fun with a game, don't enter a competitive league tournament and throw away the final. Agreeing beforehand to split the winnings doesn't help their case either, regardless of whether or not they actually got the money.

It was just Tawpgun's wording "can you shoot it on the ground" that confused everyone. I originally thought he was asking what steely assumed he was asking; "can you shoot the SD grenade on the ground?" as in "will it stick to the ground?"

But Tawpgun later clarified he meant "can you shoot it once it's already stuck to the ground with another weapon by another player, causing it to explode before the player with the SD has detonated it?"

i.e. can you shoot someone else's cooking SD grenade?
