PS Vita firmware 1.8 is the one to watch for PSOne Classics

Is there a list of recommended games to play? Are there any ones I should avoid (i.e. due to long load times, etc.)? Wanna embrace this patch but not really sure what to get.

Couldn't care less about PS1 support. I want to play Vita games on my Vita - and right now it's slim pickins for my taste

So you came into the thread about PS1 support to tell us. Thanks.

You grab Sound Shapes, Gravity Rush, Mutant Blobs, Fifa, Wipeout, Rayman, Mortal Kombat, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Hustle Kings, Motorstorm, and Pulzar yet? All great games. Velocity & Where Is My Heart are great minis to pick up, too.

BTW, Starhawk later this week?

waypoetic sounds like a really intelligent guy.

I can't wait for this update, so many classics I want to be able to legally play (and in bed *.*) too!

That's a big can of worms to open, my friend. The classic must-plays from the PSone for me, in no order:

Resident Evil 1/2/3
Final Fantasy 7/8/9
Metal Gear Solid
Silent Hill
Castlevania: SOTN
Twisted Metal 2
Crash Bandicoot 1/2/3/Racing
Tomba!
Tekken 3
Spyro 1/2/3

Silent Hill is a little tough to control these days, but I actually first played it on my PSP back in college when it hit the PSN. The Vita's pixel density should help make a lot of these games age better than you'd expect, but Twisted Metal 2 (probably my favorite game of all time) might not be worth it if you didn't grow up on it. The rest should be what you'd want and expect: all top-notch classics.

My cult favorites:

Future Cop: LAPD
Armored Core: Project Phantasma
Syphon Filter
Jet Moto

Jet Moto probably falls into the Twisted Metal 2 category of awesome if you grew up with it but maybe not playable today. Armored Core was a kickass franchise on the PSone and was more of an assembly game than anything, so I think it might still work for newcomers. Future Cop ages really, really well, so I'd say try it without question if for just the Precinct Assault/tower defense mode. Syphon Filter is divisive and was the first real third-person shooter many people played, so be warned about how it holds up.

Really hope SOTN is one of the initial games since I already have it on the PS3. It'll be like playing the GBA/DS games!

Man I wish Sony would lower memory card prices.

I was just coming in here to post this

Don't we all ? I'm still using the 4GB one they gave me. But seeing as they make quite a bit of money from them, i doubt they will lower the price anytime soon.

If any of you want to buy my 16 gig for a reasonable price maybe I'd sell it and use what you give me to buy a 32 for a decent price.

What does everyone think the 16 should sell for, $30?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I dont suppose there will be any way to move your PS1 game saves from your PS3 to your Vita?

That's my biggest question. No word on it yet.

I'd keep my eyes on the PS Blog. On the Blogcast this week they mentioned they were working on an official video to demonstrate the PSone emulator and everything it could do, so they'll likely have that up once the firmware hits.

And even i am moderately surprised
All those yummy PS1 shmpus on JPN PSN #lickslips - and i guess whatever we get on the US side.

4x32g ready and willing !

I am going to need a bigger stick.

Too bad nothing above 32GB, I don't really want to carry multiple memory cards.

Hmm ok thanks. If its not possible in 1.8 Ill just hope they add it in at some point relatively soon.

im already prepared for the copy&paste SCEE explanation:

Unfortunately *insert title* has not been made available on the European PlayStation Store today and we apologise to those of you who were looking forward to playing it. We hope to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and will let you know if the situation changes.

so vague! :D

I'm waiting for actual copy & paste support. Where the hell is it.

I think my favorite emulation of psone games (other than epsxe of course)was on the ps2. I'm still surprised they had the smoothing option for that back in the day. Made games look fantastic. I feel like that's the last time any of the huge console manufactures tried with emulation to actually enhance the games, as I feel like they should.

What about the Vita and the color, smoothing, and 2nd stick support?

Can't wait to play MGS on my Vita. Now if only I could play Portable Ops (U.S. version), I could play every single MGS game other than 4 on my Vita.

I can't believe they haven't put out some trailer or sample video or screens on how these games will look. On that OLED, these games will pop more than ever.

Would be cool if they let us screen cap PS1 games too. I played all my PS1 games stretched on PSP but with the slightly bigger size, I may play it un-stretched on Vita.

Pretty excited about this finally happening.

Bollocks, I wish there was a way to transfer all my physical copies into digital form so I could play all my favourite games from the best console that ever came out on the Vita. It's not like I'm going to buy them all again on the PS store, assuming the games even are on the store (many of them aren't). I bet Broken Sword and it's ultra-vibrant, hand-drawn visuals would look stunning on that screen. Will definitely consider buying FFVII, Fear Effect and Spyro The Dragon a second time anyway.

My Man.
I'm just itching to get everything (read: what's avaialble) loaded up.

Whats the most user friendly way to load JP PSN titles on a vita that has a US account as its main?

I would love to get some of those JP shmups but the though of jumping through hoops(resetting the system etc) just to play a single game is not appealing.

You could on the PSP, so at this point I would assume you will be able to do it for the Vita too. As some have suggested I wouldn't be surprised if it is the PSP PS1 emulator updated to use the front and back touch screens along with both analogs, so will just convert the files over like they did before.

Castlevania:SOTN with that amazing Vita dpad will be godly.
You can already play this through Dracula X Chronicles.

Lucky for some, both haven't made their way to the EU yet for some stupid reason, really annoying.

You've never played Vagrant Story, then.

Also, it's the only PS1 game I re-bought in digital form. So, yes, insta-fail for me.

I'll admit, I never played it. You should really have no trouble finding plenty of awesome games in the 100 the add, considering what's already confirmed.

Oh, that's definitely true. I don't really think it will be fail. In fact, I would love play Tomba.

I just really, really want Vagrant Story on my Vita.

Guys forget whatever game you're talking about - TOMBA! is the most exciting thing. Finally. I'll be able to play this and not be stuck to my TV =D

Oh and MGS too...maybe. Fuck you Konami for never having any kind of sale on US PSN for MGS1.

I've currently got 1 gig free on my Vita out of 16. Tomorrow will mark my first backup of games since launch, but I think I'll just delete some PSP games in the meantime (Pursuit Force alone is 700 megs).

$10 for MGS1 isn't that bad a deal.

Says the person that has it from it's day 1 release, PS2 re-release and PSN release
