Wii U: Amazon distributor claims Nov 11 release, $249 price tag. 3 Bundles

Dude, I am so getting the $250 version if true. I will get Zombi U, Mario U, and Rayman as launch titles, and I have been stocking up on a ton of Wii games I missed, and I have so many Virtual Console games to play and buy as well.

It will be incredible. It will be the best first month of a console ever for me due to the backwards compatibility of all of the games I missed. <3

Wifi only (which mostly everybody has right now at home), optional 15-20 bucks USB ethernet card for those that cannot live without it and swear for the extra 2ms of lag they save.
That's rather a matter of security and usage of the wireless network... When you have an ethernet switch under the TV, it's so much easier to plug a cable rather than wondering how connect the console securely to the network. And when wireless is already used a lot, you don't want to add another device. I truly don't care for the small lag difference.

That being said, I won't cry for the lack of ethernet port (I'd like to be able to find the adapter more easily, though)

Not many on GAF will pay for Nintendoland.

I'd buy Nintendoland if it were $20 or less. If it's not bundled I'll probably buy it used somewhere down the line for less.

I've heard it will use the same ethernet adapter from the Wii. If true, I'm already set, and there are tons of them for <$20 on Amazon.

Is there any way that these are just Amazon bundles and not actual Nintendo produced ones, even if the price of 249 is correct? Doesn't really seem like a launch tactic they would use, nor does it really make sense. The second bundle seems especially pointless considering you could just get the system and choose your own game for the same price. Why not just release the bare bones one and save money on boxing and whatnot? Are they hoping it sales like hotcakes, then the only thing left are bundles to get for frantic holiday shoppers?

Asking out of ignorance.

249 is suprisingly low. Even for somewhat dated specs.
My thought too, I just can't see this happening, not with all the talk about the streaming tech and screen on the controller, which is said to be so expensive. The US dollar is extremely low too right now. If it's true then I'm definitely importing. $249 would be like 1700 SEK (Sweden) right now, less than you have to pay for the original 3DS. Crazy.

Someone probably created this tier setup but I'll post it anyway:

249.99: WiiU + Upad
299.99: WiiU + Upad + Nintendo Land
349.99: WiiU + Upad + Nintendo Land + 2 Wii Remotes + 2 Nunchucks

Option 1: I don't want NL.
Option 2: I want NL but have the controllers.
Option 3: I want NL, don't have the controllers.

Nintendo Land is a game created to show off the WiiUs gimmick. A lot of their demos involve heavily focused cooperative multiplayer, it's not like Wii Sports where you could pass around 1 wiimote to play and be satisfied. There may also be some extras to make the deal more reasonable like SD cards or HDD but generally this is what the tiered pricing says to me, if this is even true.

Show me when they have launched something for the console space and something for their handheld space on the exact same day? Even Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword were released on separate days. What is stopping them from releasing either Wii U or Paper Mario on November 18?

Pretty sure they did Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime on the same day. Long time ago, obviously, but it wouldn't be unprecedented.

Best post here. Minus the nunchuks.

Reading some of the above guesses, and just was baffled. Not much grounded or educated estimations at all. Sorry GAF. But this particular one above is the only logical one. Before reading it, when i saw the skus i thought to myself.

$250 Wii U
$300 Wii U with an NSMBU download ticket or Nintendo Land download ticket
$350 Wii U with Nintendo Land and 3 Wiimotion Plus Remotes

Not that I believe there will be 3 offical SKUs from Nintendo. Maybe retailer bundles.

250 was already an unbelievable price for the Wii when it came out. Considering that it is an updated Gamecube which costed 200 at launch, 5 years earlier.

$250 was overpriced for the Wii, Nintendo was making a good chunk of change on each unit sold.

$250 for the Wii U is pretty crazy with the tablet factored in.

Not so crazy when you consider how old/underpower the inside tech likely is (assuming current gen+ which is pretty well established by now).

 Getting praise from the resident Nintendo expert.

Why no nunchucks? Some of the games need the nunchuck attachment right?

Indeed. But alongside the $599 PS3 and the $399 360 ($499 in Canada, wtf), it was pennies.

Has these prices been confirmed by anyone else?

Nope! Just the Deluxe Set w/ROB, IIRC. The Action Set later replaced it, IIRC.

...IIRC.

So, still, unprecedented. I'm calling bullshit. For them to do that many options, then add the color options would be crazy. Either just the colors and you'll get people to buy the more expensive option at launch. It's launch. There is no need for a cheap option, unless they are aiming for $599 US dollars.

$249 - No GamePad, Pro Controller bundle
$299 - GamePad, regular bundle
$349 - GamePad, Nintendoland
there's no way any Wii U will ship without the GamePad
bundle

No, it hasn't, as far as I know.

This is just a rumour and these are just speculations on our part, still they may eventually turn out to be true.

A 250$ mark is in line with what the targeted audience Nintendo are traditionally aiming at would be paying for a new Nintendo console, especially now, what with international financial crisis, pricing their device higher than that would be a bad choice, and Nintendo for sure should be aware of it.

Okay. I'll guess we'll have to wait until the 13th for the official announce or hopefully, something before then will leak.

All will be revealed on the 13th. But let's be honest has anybody thought reserves might be limited and skus will be shut down earlyto prevent the whole Wii scenario where most stores didn't get enough.

If this thing really launches at $249, it's going to be at 20 million worldwide before Microsoft and Sony even reveal the pricepoints for their systems.

I'll throw in my lot with the $300/November 18th group, personally.

No insider information, but it just still seems the most likely result.

Thought Amazon didn't have the Wii U at all at launch? Is this a distributor that services other clients as well?

Blockbuster and Newegg are among them.

I'm just still upset with the Wii price... those WiiU rumored prices seem to be ok for now, we just need more information on those bundles.
Heck, maybe I'll buy both a Wii for homebrews and WiiU together next year. :)

Umm, yeah nobody really knows that info but Nintendo. I doubt it was only $6. My guess would be more like $100 to start. Or at least, $100 profit early on as soon as production ramped a bit.

The thing was literally an overclocked Gamecube, which was selling for $99 assumedly at a profit at the time. The chips in it are insanely tiny.

Of course, there would have been some added expense for the Wii Mote, sensor bar etc, but really.

Your post and your use of the word "literally" are literally wrong.

With or without Nintendo Land?

I say with.

I'm pretty sure every single Wii U in the US will come with Nintendoland. Wii Sports was what made the Wii a massive success, Nintendo won't change that formula unless they're truly insane. Even if they were insane, they're not insane enough to charge $50 for Nintendoland.

Isn't Nintendoland mostly a multiplayer affair? I'm just pulling this out of the air, but:

$249 - White - System and tablet controller
$299 - White - System, tablet controller, wiimote+nunchuk, Nintendoland
$349 - Black - System, tablet controller, wiimote+nunchuk, Nintendoland, pro controller

$49 - Nintendoland + wiimote and nunchuck bundle

Since you need wiimotes for the multiplayer in Nintendoland they will bundle it with an extra wiimotes in an attempt to replicate the incredible success that Wii Play had. The problem is that we are probably already saturated in extra wiimotes so who's going to need them?

You are delusional if you think Nintendo's not going to include a GamePad with even the cheapest version of the console. You do remember last E3 when pretty much all they showed of the new console was the tablet controller right? I can't believe the thought they they would ship a Wii U without it has even cross people's minds.

I like this scenario. I think $50 seems like too much for just Nintendoland. You might as well just sell it separately if you're going to increase the bundle price that much. Including the wiimote along with the nunchuck makes much more sense.

The only thing I hope is different is that they offer black and white at all price points. I don't want to be forced to pony up the extra $ just for a different color.

I highly doubt it, seeing how MS already pays Activision insane amounts of money to keep CoD associated to the Xbox brand as much as possible, like pretending the game is exclusive while launching the rest of the versions through the back door.

Microsoft has an agreement with Activision which sees no consoles other than Xbox 360 bundled with a CoD game at launch. It's only a 6 month exclusive, but by then it's only a 6 month wait for the next CoD game.

Additionally, Microsoft also has exclusive rights to Call of Duty themed consoles (colors, art, etc), but that's an indefinite exclusive.

I think at one point they were insane enough to charge $50 for Nintendoland.

E3 reactions might have changed that (thankfully).

I wonder if there's one SKU, with Nintendoland, if people will think there's a "$50 upcharge" for it? I don't know. I think it would be foolish to not package it in. It's hands-on examples of the concepts the controller can offer. That's going to sell more systems than nearly anything else.

My prediction is that Nintendoland 2 will be how they introduce two GamePads, and the second GamePad will be bundled with the game.
