I personally think Mk V wasn't omitted or cut so something else could exist, but it simply never existed and wasn't chosen to be added because its old, was only in 1 game's campaign, and doesn't fit with the context of Halo 4 while Mk VI does. Use Mk VI or 1 of the other 40 helmets. Everyone will be fine.

With that, I am done with this talk.
Sounds like a pretty solid explanation. Helmet talk has been very boring, more about gameplay please. Henery save us from this hell.

To me, excluding the Mark V feels more like cutting ties with fans than cutting ties with Bungie, but that's of course hyperbole. But it's a small piece of fan service that has a lot of meaning to some people, and really should have been in the game.

And 343's explanation of this is less than satisfying. More than a few of their responses have felt inadequate, and some borderline disingenuous. It's kind of bumming me out. But once again, I'll probably love the game, despite my critiques. I just wish 343 would handle things differently.

I'm totally in agreement that the option should be there, but it is also entirely possible there is a very good reason it can't be at this time. There's no logical explanation as to why there shouldn't be options to play classic flag if you want to, so I have to believe it's a technical hurdle due to the new mechanics.

I don't think there is a technical issue that is stopping 343 to implement an option for classic CTF, they already said they can give us the option if they want to, so the Only logical explanation right now is that they want everyone to only play their version of CTF.

This may be assuming too much, but CTF having it's own playlist at launch tells me that you will not find a ton of fringe gametypes in Halo 4. They are going to stick to a small set of objective games with settings that they feel very confident in.
I am really curious what other gametypes there are. I would love to see Assault, Plots (this works well with these new additions), and I'm sure King of the Hill still works fine depending on the map (log-jamming any gametype into any map, amirite). This "Team Flag" thing just gives me an idea that others are either 1) not coming, or 2) not getting included and will become a waste of disc space like much of the gametypes we've seen in Halo 3 and Reach. TO in Reach had its fair amount of good ones, not perfect by any means, up until they added in that garbage back in. 3 had mostly CTF and Territories with a splash of instant-arm Assault and Oddball on any map possible. You see, the objective based playlist is where I commonly keep myself playing but it's going to need more than just flag to keep my interest.

You know, that's definitely a better question for a designer, because they'll be able to go into more depth, but ultimately it's speeding up the pace across the board in the encounters and the objectives and so on. There's definitely some fairly controversial things in that mode, like fact that you can't drop the flag, the fact that you have a pistol. The pistol is getting some tweaks to it right now, so the one that's on the floor isn't quite final. But yeah, it's definitely controversial, we totally get that, the first thing that people get excited about, being polite about it, is change, and so whenever we do something radical or significant, we know that there's going to be that kind of effect. But you guys played it, and I'm not going to put words in your mouth, so you guys should say how it felt to you, how big a difference that those two changes, the carrying a pistol and the inability to drop or juggle the flag, how did it affect the pace? I know how I feel about it, but I work on the game, my opinion is completely flawed, obviously, in some ways, but my serious opinion is that it improves it, it speeds it up, it changes it, definitely, and it takes a little while to get used to, but that's what I enjoy. But you guys played it, nobody told you what to say, you should say what you think about it, whether it's good or bad.

SD: Is that something that's going to be customizable in custom games?

We have really significant custom options and we'll talk about those more later.

I just played some Reach. WHAT

Couple of games of super slayer, had fun except that they felt like slow motion slideshows.. 30fps halo used to feel smooth to me before I got into pc gaming. Fuck. :(

Hire juices -> introduce 60fps mode with simpler visuals in one of the first patches for Halo 4.

Actually, not. Ultimately, i'd want to do/work on something completly original. Not sure if i even would like to be a video game designer, though i think i claimed otherwise earlier.
 
Yep. I hate the CTF design and rules as it stands, but I'd be more pissed if there were five different versions of CTF in seven different playlists.
This is pretty much where I'm coming from. I'm not against custom options, they are good, but even if it means less custom options I would rather have a singular vision of Capture the Flag, designed specifically for 5v5 matchmaking with specific maps and setups than 5 different CTF gametypes that all suck and no thought out matchmaking combos.
So basically, we know weve got the following lists, right?

-Infinity Slayer
-Classic Slayer
-BTB
-Team Flag
-Grifball
-Coop campaign
-Spartan Ops

I think it's safe to assume we will have some "everything else" objective list. So that's roughly eight. Not sure exactly how Ops in matchmaking will really work.
-"Classic Slayer" is vague. All we know for sure is that there will be a playlist without full loadout options.
-Frank said a few weeks back that "if" they had Grifball, there wouldn't be a playlist. That statement seems odd now given all the work put into it and CTF getting a playlist, but we'll see.
Ram pls. You know I'm obsessive over this stuff. While not an issue to YOU, its an issue to many, Including myself.
The point is that many feel that it just shouldn't be that important to people. There is WAY more customizable options for appearance in this game than any other Halo game, you'll find stuff that you like.

If you want to get a "real" answer, 343 has grounded all the MP in fiction, so why the hell would a Spartan IV wear Mk V armor? They wouldn't.
No secret Irish Halo 4 testing. =/

I think 343i is putting an emphasis of removing K/D ratio from all other modes other than Slayer.

Will stat tracking for kill/death ratio be done separately for the different playlists? All of the changes made to modes like Capture the Flag will do wonders for improving game speed as long as everyone is focused on winning. These improvements start to fade when people are just trying to farm for kills.-indubitably1

When comparing yourself to teammates, medal points make all the difference and in each mode you’ll earn specific points for not only scoring but also helping your teammates. CTF, for example, has medals for “Flag Driver”, “Flag Assist”, and “Flag Defense”. We will be reporting stats for War Games as a mode, but also for the individual game base variants, meaning the underlying game types like CTF, Regicide, Slayer, etc. K/D ratio in general will only be highlighted for Slayer.

It seems like they're really trying to get rid of the people who play objective gametypes just for huge K/D ratios. I think as a whole, it may show up in your Spartan profile/card/service report/call it what you want, but it's not going to be as emphasized as much as the team play medals are going to be.
 
I don't think the trade off for having a bigger population in CTF is really worth the changes being made. If I don't like the new CTF, that bigger population won't do anything for me. I'd rather have a small population and a gametype I enjoy to play.

It's extremely hard to trust game develops now-a-days. Saying "trust us" means that you most likely won't be happy what we did with your favorite game.

Yup. I don't think I've honestly ever seen a game where the developer kept saying Trust us that turned out good. Course who knows Halo 4 could be the first. We'll just have to wait and see.

Here's what I don't understand about armor DLC...

Everyone would be forced to download it to view it in-game. So if they sold them as strictly armor DLC, or added them as a bonus to a map pack or something, it presents the same problem.
 
^ if its possible to have DLC armor it will likely be a small download.. they could just force everyone to DL it, but to use it you have to pay for it. The ideal way would be to include new armor with mappacks rather than sell em separately.

I fully expect new armors/skins/etc to be a part of the DLC packs.

The wording in the update implies they literally have no room in the games memory for more armor sets.. Unless it was weird wording and they meant disc space or time to implement more armor. As of now Im not expecting DLC armor, which is weird since its been something people have asked for since Halo 3.

This is getting to me the more discussed about there being no clear explanations (which would be helpful if given). I'll still play it regardless and get my own opinion.

Well if there isn't enough RAM space to allow skins for the hammer/sword, regardless of the viewable area, then I'm gonna make the call that they are maxing what little RAM they have to work with on the 360.

Lol, Classic CTF is not and never was the problem. It's like throwing out traditional slayer settings because Arena was a failure in Reach. The problem is dogshit playlist management. If 343 is pointing to Team Objective's population in Reach as a reason for scrapping CTF, maybe they should realize it's Hot Potato Swordbase and KOTH Countdown that keep people away. Then again that would assume 343 even knows what half of the playlists are in Reach. Rest in peace TU BETA SLAYER.

Game gets a patch for a map pack, patch includes armour assets. That's one way they could do it, though I don't really expect anything in the form of armour DLC.

I don't think anyone hates the new mode, what most people don't like is that they don't have the option to customize it.

I find all the salt about something which is only in the game for people who are killing you to see kind of funny.

It's silly when you look at it from a general perspective, but considering we have the option to look like 30 different kinds of Dinobot/Robocop clusterfucks but not the iconic look of the entire franchise, it begins to be a legitimate complaint.

What is the current max download size for patches? I know they increased and allowed it to be made permanent, so you can't just clear your cache to get rid of it, but I can't remember what they upped it to. I know for a while the max was 4mb.

If you consider padding your kill stats to mean having a giant icon over your head that screams "KILL ME" sure. If you're good enough to get multiple kills with a slightly better magnum and the whole enemy team coming at you then more power to you.

That off chance is still leagues better than people not even attempting to pick up the flag at all.
 
Its pretty awesome that theres a Halo event going down in England, kind of weird that its for celeb's rather than press, but cool all the same, I wonder if they are playing the final build of the game? Surely it cant change too much now?

This is what I was getting at earlier. Unless it was explained wrong, more armor doesn't sound possible. It's possible they planned that out though and future armor is part of the armor budget.
 
Pretty sure biggy left last night because there was literally no way we should have lost playing against people who blow that hard and most of the callouts that were made were basically ignored. Instead of raging at teammates, he simply left. If that's what you're refering to, that is.

On a related note, I think I'm going to start querying the teams I'm on beforehand as to whether or not they are drinking/high at the moment and weigh my tolerance before games start. No matter what they might say, they are NOT better players stoned/drunk.
Wasn't referring to anything in particular, certainly not last night since I can hardly hear call outs to begin wih because of my headset malfunctioning. I'm just pointing out a general trend I've noticed, it's most easily observed when partying up with people after a game. It's good times until you lose one, then everyone gets out fast.
