FTL: a game about managing a spaceship in an infinite galaxy

Umm, silly question - how do I transport people back onto my ship? I accepted a surrender, but now my crew seems to be stuck on the enemy ship...

Normal is the real deal.

There should be a special icon for the transporter on the bottom left of the screen with arrows next to it.

My god I love this this is hard and satisfying. And not cheap (*cough* dark souls *cough*)...is there a guide on what icons means? What is the sideways pause icon for example?

How do you use your cargo? I found some anti personal that supposedly takes out intruders.
If you hover the mouse over the icons on the user interface, at the borders of the screen instead of over the ship itself, it should pop up a tooltip that will describe each one. The sideways pause icon is the remote door-opening ship. You might not be able to put out fires if that system is broken, for instance.

I'm glad you can repair ships at the store.

Also, there isn't any way to scale the game screen besides playing in fullscreen with stretched mode on, right? I'm doing that and it's not bad, but windowed mode almost seemed too small to me.

I love this fucking game.

this fucking game GAF. its really great
I already gifted it to someone else. I'm glad it exists and I'm glad it's up there on the top seller and most played charts.

...however, I did get crushed and defeated as soon as I got into the second sector, since apparently my crewmembers have no idea how to attack aliens that teleport onto the ship. :p Do I have to have a drone system or can I research something like hand-to-hand combat?

I guess my crew members can attack enemies maybe, they just really suck at it?

Also, stupid question. Does the rebel advance speed depend on how long I spend in battles realtime, or is it purely based on the number of jumps I do in a sector? Do I need to rush battle/sector time?

I'm having a hell of a time unlocking any new ships/configurations. Getting sick of this default ship :(

I unlocked the Engi ship without knowing how I did it. The descriptions for the unlocks are pretty oblique. Some of them might have to do with random story elements. I just found a damaged stasis pod, and it said "Somebody should know what to do with this," but then I died before I found that somebody.

Jumps only. Unless the enemy gets away, then they close in a bit faster. But that still has nothing to do with battle time

Glad to see you guys like the game. Kickstarted it for 100$, wish I had more to put into it.

Man, I feel like I don't know how to get to the end without running out of scrap. Even on easy this game's tough.
Made it to the end with like 500 scrap and full shields.
Stupid stores are all sold out of space lasers.
Going to have to rework some strategies.

The rebel fleet advances based on jumps. Use every sector to it's fullest to get the most scrap. It also RESETS every time you enter a new sector.

You unlock the engi ship for making it to sector 5.

Different races are better at fighting than others. Mantis men are very strong in Hand to Hand combat, rockmen are very tough(150hp), engis are bad and zoltans are the worst fighters. (dunno about slugmen).

Your crew does LEVEL UP! Use the same crew member for the same tasks. They will gain experience and be better at it.

Always fight in the medbay if possible. Vent all the other rooms. Neve use your pilot to fight, you lose all chance at evasion that way. (if you have autopilot, you'll get some of it back)
How do you use your cargo? I found some anti personal that supposedly takes out intruders.
That's a drone and you need a dronebay on your ship to use it.

Being a poor student sucks lol.

What do you guys find so amazing about the game anyways?

I can't really explain it. There's something about it that makes me want to play it everytime I have a spare 15mins or so. The problem is I need that 15mins to expand to an hour or two after I've jumped in to it.

It's terrifying when you nearly run out of fuel, I didn't realize it got so limited.

The most depressing thing is that I have three rooms (including the O2 generator) with hull breaches now. That's permanent and can never be fixed, correct?

Made it to third phase on easy mode. Carried by ions and anti-ship drones. I think I wasted a repair station when trying to intercept the boss so I was screwed when I really needed one. :(

You can repair hull breaches. It's just that they will be draining oxygen from the room until it's fixed.

You should be able to fix hull breaches, but it's best to do it with a race that can self-heal.

wtf it's like 4am.

time flies :(

I forgot my rock dude on an enemy ship. RIP :(

This playthrough I haven't seen any weapons, just been burst lasering it.

Wasted all my missiles on a ship because i didn't realize it had some anti missile drone thing. fml.

I dont seem to get the boss encounter stage. We just fly around killing everyone right? What should the ship have at that point to make it through?

I got to near the flagship and died. I tried a couple of playthroughs with the Engi ship but haven't made it past the first sector or two. Drones do seem like they could be useful.

It's funny, there are relatively few options so it feels like the game would not have much replay value/depth, but I suppose with the number of unlockable ships you could play it for a while. Plus especially on normal difficulty, I am guessing randomness will screw you over most playthroughs so you would not get close to the end.

Auto fire plus drones and the engi ship pretty much plays itself until the later sectors

I find the Hull Repair drone to be tremendously useful in buying some time during the "boss". Of course, for me, I end up giving up a weapon to repair, but what can ya do.

I'm so bad at this... I feel I miss something. I always run out of ammo/fuel. I spend all my money on these at store, or shielding. But i always ending short of supplies on easy. Oh and I got tons of drone but no idea how to use them

Whoa, this came out of nowhere for me. Might end up being one of my GOTYs at this rate. I seriously had to tell myself "NO, don't start a new game" in order to stop playing. Civ 4 levels of addiction coming up.

I'm finding the game incredibly hard as well, but that's fine. I keep learning new stuff every playthrough.

I'd say try not to waste your ammo, once you get their shields down you don't really need to use your missiles. If you have more than one laser and their shields are up, don't fire them as soon as they're charged but wait till both are charged then fire.

In terms of fuel, it's not the biggest deal if you run out as long as you can defend yourself

I love this game so much I want to get a laptop so I can play it everywhere.

Here's how I sit while waiting for events to play out. :

Fantastic game. Difficult in the best possible way. My only wish is that your crew would auto-heal when out of combat and in no danger. It can get tedious to get them into the med bay 3 at a time and back to their specialized area.

There's a part that fits on your ship for that.

Playing with the Engi ship and getting creamed by the boss. Was steamrolling everything until then and get utterly annihilated.

Loving the game but not sure what I'm learning on every play-through or what could have been done differently except some random elements. Cleared out every zone as much as possible and never really lost anything, had full shields/weapons/some other systems...

In sector 8 there should be a flagship circling one of the beacons. Navigate towards it, it will jump every 2 turns. Your goal is to destroy it. It's actually a good idea to avoid any other fights you can in sector 8 so you maintain resources for the boss. Other than that good luck.

Randomness certainly will have an influence on the way you play in a given run but if you're planning ahead it should rarely ever screw you over. For instance while you may run into 1 or 2, 2 shield enemies by sector 3, you're pretty much guaranteed to see them exclusively by sector 4. If you don't have a way to punch through that efficiently you'll be setting yourself up for a steady decline at that point.

Is there any Way to change the resolution?

Not at present, they talked a few times during beta about a very high res version but didn't commit to implementing it.

Man i totally love this game in my first play i named the captain with my name and my other crew with my friends names, the outcome was hilarious one was killed by a mantis in hand to hand, i got traded to the slavers for free passage (bastards) and the last one died in a big fire.

this game rocks!

Oh btw guys, unlocking new ships/layout for ships is definitely worth it. Layout B for the first ship is way better than Layout A in my opinion.

I'll add my voice to the chorus. FTL is great.

I discovered the hard way that that next star won't necessarily link to the one further on.

Lol, tell me about it. I had a random sector with the navs distributed into a capital "C" shape. I went to the Northeast while the exit was just south at the Southeast point. Unfortunately I couldn't jump the gap and had to fight through 6 or 7 of the enemy fleet while retracing the crecent! After running low on rockets I managed to beat the last 2 with a pair of laser banks. Way intense but I made it through with minimal losses, only to get wiped out early on the next sector by bombs or something. Whatever it was punched right through my shields and kept lighting fires. I love this game!

I don't think so, so I just play it full-screen stretched. It actually doesn't look bad on a 1680x1050 monitor.

Oh good. Haven't run into it yet.

Once you've gotten 5 sectors in, you unlock
the Engi ship, which should have an augment that heals everyone even outside the med bay, just at a reduced rate
. Also remember you can drag a rectangle to select multiple crew members, though occasionally it will be finicky and not seem to select properly.

*edit* One minor gripe is that the game is apparently OpenGL and has no vsync or frame limiter, so it runs like 500 fps. I -seem- to be able to force vsync with CCC, though D3DOverrider does nothing (presumably because of OpenGL).

Nearly secured a victory with the stealth ship. Fatal mistake was probably pulling my pilot to vent the bridge after a double fire broke out. A few moments later the super volley went off and several shots just blew past my cloaking anyways, would've been at 90% or so evasion with the pilot at the helm. Was very close, had reduced the enemy to a skeleton crew, repaired my systems, and was maybe a volley from victory.

On the plus side I did finally unlock the stealth variant which starts out with a glaive beam, 3 damage per room, so it'll pierce through level 2 shields.

For cases like this I have just set the framerate limiter in MSI Afterburner to 60 FPS globally. I highly recommend this program. Higher FPS is just unneeded stress for the GPU.

Hadn't caught onto this until earlier today, been reading some reviews.

Consider it bought! Question is whether I'll have any time to play it before Monday afternoon. :(

Dont try to play it before monday then. Otherwise the game will make you have time for it, no matter your other obligations.

Edit: Finally managed to get all the achievements for the first ship. Yay.
