Android, iOS, WP8 phone debate thread

I only need a WP8 device. Then I'll have the latest version of every OS with which I can desparage the ones I don't prefer!

JB slower than iPhone 1.

Damn, i think I have seen it all in this thread. lol

Yeah, I'm just going to leave him alone on that one. No need to beat on the guy anymore. I mean... this is what this thread is for right? So I'm just gonna chillax.

This just showed up on my FB feed, lol

Number of missed calls/voicemails
Number of emails
Upcoming calendar appointment and time (also displays on lock screen)
Latest social networking updates and/or number of updates
If I pin a particular contact to the start screen, I can see their latest updates
Latest news stories and associated photo (including a flag for BREAKING news stories)
Updates/alerts to a commute route that I drive daily
Weather updates (which includes current temp, forecast, weather alerts, and forecast for next two days)
Latest FFFFound art post (useful to me personally)
Direct access to a route that I want to drive or a map location
NFL score updates
Etc.

My next 6 appointments (times and locations, color coded)
Stock quotes for a bunch of stocks I follow
Current weather wherever I am
Current weather at my house
Current traffic map where I drive frequently
Birthdays of friends that are coming up
Etc...

Live tiles rule. Best thing about the OS, hands down

The night I tried WP7 out, the live tiles barely worked. This was especially true for Kik, an app I use everyday. Not one notification popped up on the tile.

Throwing in the towel already? I'd gladly eat crow if you show me any Android that runs smoother than the iPhone. And lets not go and compare it to a first gen iPhone running a version of the OS 2-3 generations ahead.

7GB of skydrive, I am glad that I got the free 25 when tney gave them away, but MS should give those 25gb to every WP owner for free too

Should make one for iPad vs. 920 :) That's the real competition if you ask me...
Seriously though Nokia should make a 910 that has a 1280x720 screen without all the fancy optical image stabilization for <130 grams. Guarantee it'd sell better than the 920.

And lets not go and compare it to a first gen iPhone running a version of the OS 2-3 generations ahead.

Are you smoking crack?

Actually my previous iPhone 1, 3GS, and 4 all ran more smoothly than this thing.

Did you seriously forget that it was not me that made that comparison but YOU!, and that I merely challenged the absurdity of that specific claim? Did you just try and slam me for doing what you did? The hell do you mean 'throwing in the towel'?

I am trying so hard right now not to pull the 'loljunior' card. This is comedy gold.

I'm talking about the 1st gen iPhone running iOS5/6 instead of the stock version of the OS it came with cause it would obviously run slower. Learn to read.

Before my current Galaxy Nexus, I was rocking a Samsung Omnia 7 (base weight: 138g), but with a Mugen 3600mAh battery, so it was probably closer to 200g. 180g is nothing. The GN almost feels too light IMO, any lighter and it'd feel like a kid toy.

Hilarious. I really do not understand how Samsung manages to get so much attention with these little one off ads and potshots. The last commercial they did had the same effect. Had everyone talking about it.

Haha, why have I not seen this before? That ad was great - not necessarily effective, but I just laugh this sort of advertising.

Vox, pal, buddy..... It doesn't matter which version of iOS you are talking about. If its on the original iPhone, it is not more fluid and more smooth than JB on an S3 nor on the Galaxy Nexus..... thats the point friend. Not even the OS your imaginary OG iPhone is running can save you from that ridiculous exaggeration. I am being very kind right now.

You have made the claim that even the web browser on the original iPhone is smoother than that of an S3 and a Galaxy Nexus running JB. We are talking about the ORIGINAL iPhone dude.... This is a device nearly everyone on this board either owned, used or watched Steve Jobs use live on stage back years ago. We all know that your claim that JB performs worse than the original iPhone is bullshit. Im not going to bother peppering you with reviews, benchmarks, or videos and whatnot, because you can do that research for yourself if you wanted.

I really dont get why you dont just cut your losses and admit you were stretching things.

I meant don't compare it to a 1st gen iPhone running iOS5/6 cause it would obviously be slower.

Ok.... you appear to not know anything about iPhones. I thought that was a typo earlier. You just really dont know what you are talking about.

Way to take it out of context.

I told him to show me any Android phone running smoother than the iPhone.

I meant don't compare it to a 1st gen iPhone running iOS5/6 cause it would obviously be slower.

But you yourself said the 1st gen iPhone ran better than JB.

Am I the only one that doesn't even know what you're arguing? 1st gen iPhone running iOS5/6? Original iPhone doesn't lag in multitasking menu like Android (despite the original iPhone never having multitasking)? Wtf?

I didn't take shit out of context.

I wasn't even aware the 1st gen would actually even run 5/6.

I'm getting the impression that he really doesn't know anything about the iPhone. That would explain why he would make such a ridiculous claim, and would definitely explain why he thought it was worth trying to defend that claim.

Funny how scrolling in that presentation is still smoother than my Gnex despite the images not having been fully loaded

I would think one would you use common knowledge and compare it to an iPhone that DID have multitasking.

JB still has some catching up to do in the responsiveness/fluidity department, but it doesn't hamper the experience like it once did.. Still a great feat considering the limitations of a standard OS vs tailor-made.

My experience is about being "fast enough" for 2012:

iPhone 4S is fast enough.
Older iPhones are NOT fast enough.
ICS (HP Touchpad) is NOT fast enough.
WP7.5 is fast enough, actually the best in smoothness probably.
Do not know if JB is fast enough, haven't tried it.

Absolutely agreed. It still isn't perfect, but unlike ios, it seems each new iteration of android makes the phone it lands on, faster/smoother*.

The GNEX on JB is improved enough to where I'd place it between a 4 and 4S running their latest OS.

*more room for improvement in that regard, heh

zz. How about posting a GIF of Android not being stuttery mess?

I have to admit, you actually, legitimately fooled me. I didn't catch a whiff of 'joke poster' until you started to leak from the seams here on this page. I was taking you completely seriously.

Don't have an iPhone but I'm pretty sure first gen iPhones don't run the new iOS system software at all.

They don't.

I'll agree. Always room for improvements and every now and then I see some slowdown, but it's nothing too distracting. I'd say while not on iOS level, it's pretty damn close in an everyday setting.

This thread started out so well too. :(

I never said it did. I meant he shouldn't take the cheap route and compare a high end Android phone to a first gen iPhone running an OS that came out 5 years later. I just happened to use iOS5/6 as my example.

The way the hardware acceleration and UI rendering is done on Android pretty much makes it impossible to be smoother than the iPhone. I'm still waiting on these videos that shows Android being smoother.

.

You've lost the plot.

Yup I've been using a Galaxy Nexus for the past 6 months and even had some time with the S3 before returning it. Actually my previous iPhone 1, 3GS, and 4 all ran more smoothly than this thing.

I have no idea how long ago that was for you, or what version of WP7 you had (was it pre-Mango?) or what version of the app(s) you were using, but I have no such issues. If I did, I surely wouldn't be crowing about the feature :)

What app do you use for your next appointments?

It's interesting that these comparisons are always iPhone vs. Galaxy or iPhone vs. Lumia. We never see Galaxy vs. Lumia, I wonder why that is :)
