Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

I for one would like to see the railgun.

Ragnarok looks amazing, and the Mantis looks sweet. Hopefully not too OP. And Complex looks like Highlands 2.0

Railgun would be cool but we need something to take out vehicles.

That just made me think: I hope the hog and mongoose is still on the map.

Glad I am not the only one thinking this. Was slightly painful to watch. Same goes for the Banshee dogfight.

I feel bad saying, but I was a lot more hyped for the campaign before watching that demo, the gunplay/ combat seemed VERY meh. Frankie did clarify that there was a lot of input lag though, so im hoping thats why it didnt seem too good.

Story and general structure of the campaign looks VERY interesting though!

Dude from the stream brought up a good point with assassination animations. Said he used boxer control scheme in Reach and was almost always pulling off accidental assassinations because of the lingering input in a trigger press.

:-O

Did you make that? It's amazing!
Yeah haha, that's all I could think when I see the pistol appearing from nowhere. It's canon to me.

I kind of asked this before, but I I'll ask it again: Why are people so worried about having Mantises (?) on Valhalla? We don't even know how powerful they are. That's like complaining that Valhalla has Warthogs.

We're nervous about any new changes. It's in our nature.

Oh come on. I'm not worried (that much) but you can't seriously compare warthogs to mantises. C'mon_son.gif

A neutral Mantis would make a lot of sense. Put it in the radio tower/bubble shield field so infantry has a reason to use it as more than a "please god don't hit me" route.

PS the OXM article posted a page back has a great article about the 4th mission, Infinity. Its a pretty good read and has some cool quotes from different characters.
Nothing crazy, but I liked the interaction between Palmer and MC. “I thought you’d be taller.”

"This meeting highlights not only the way in which Halo 4 aims to tell its story — by encompassing all the fiction from the books, web series, and comics — but by also giving these characters new depth via painstakingly-done motion-capture.. Lasky’s face, Palmer’s armored movements, and Del Rio’s grizzled, old soldier frown seem light years ahead of the nowseemingly inert character models in Halos past."

So hyped.

The bit they describe at the beginning with that line from Cortana is super exciting.

They better fucking have the Chopper make a return, especially since we really are only getting one new vehicle. The Mantis does seem awesome though, don't get me wrong.

Yup. This games gonna be good.

I wonder how you hijack a Mantis

All I know is it will look awesome.

I wonder if a Mantis can use a Mancannon..

I mean, I don't even know how they work, so why not? But you're probably right -- the Mantis will be more powerful than the Warthog due to it's psychological warfare tea bagging abilities, if nothing else.

But no, really, it'll probably be pretty powerful. I just think it's too early to worry so much.

We certainly have our suspicion about enemy alliances, and throughout the ensuing chaos — which includes a Scorpion Tank run as well as a showdown on a makeshift airfield while piloting a Mantis mech — Chief repeatedly lays much of the mayhem’s blame squarely on the shoulders of
the Didact
, an ancient Forerunner who MC believes has united the Covvies with their Promethean buddies.
In fact, in a heated exchange between Del Rio and Chief, our favorite Spartan insists that they continue their hunt
for the Didact while “he’s vulnerable
.”

I'd be more encouraged if sprint helped maps that had similar wide open spaces to play better against the DMR (Hemorrhage, Highlands), but it didn't seem to help at all. And guys on the hill engaging those in their base directly is, I think, a pretty fundamental change to how the map will play. I'm deeply pessimistic. But we'll find out soon enough.

Seems to me that guys holding middle hill are going to be too busy getting stomped on by Mantis's and crapped on by Banshees to be pinging either base. That's more my concern at this point- it just looks like there's too much "stuff" getting jammed into this game.

It's great to hear that the gunplay and core mechanics are solid- I just hope I'm able to find time to enjoy them while avoiding scorpions, gauss hogs, banshees, mechs, laser, binary rifles, cross-map dmr's, snipers and incineration cannons.

OXM will have details on another level in thier next issue:

"Still, there’s plenty more of Halo 4 content we’ve been able to get our hands on (including an additional mission, as well as scads of multiplayer content including a mode that casts you as a member of the Flood), and you can learn about all of it in our December issue, which will land on store shelves (and in customer mailboxes) in early October! "

lol @ December issue in October. It just seems like weird dating, just call it the October or November issue, haha.

Yeah I was wondering about how to bring that up. We already knew it because of
GTTV
but its interesting to see again. I still say they aren't supposed to be saying that though.

This and I think they should put the Railgun on top hill for the start of the match. If there are Shotguns on the map, hopefully they limit the ammo to one reload so that lessens the base-camping issue.

I'd love to see Rockets instead of the laser on Valhalla.

Well, with random weapon drops (that aren't really random, but totally are, but aren't, but are) you'll get your wish. Every 10th game or so.

I don't know. I'm extra salty today for some reason. Still super-hyped for the game and all, but definitely running higher on the sodium than usual.

Hope not. Shit would bring me to tears

I don't see what's so special about Kill cams, all they show is how the enemy killed you. The only thing I hated about them when watching my friend play, is how sometimes it follows the bullet when it kills you.

That's part of the problem. The rotating camera on your dead body allowed for more information instead of restricting you to what the enemy saw.

I find it pretty disconcerting, personally. I don't think it would be the end of the world if they had it for all gametypes, but in games like COD I only find it really necessary if someone is camping. Camping is much less of an issue in Halo.

Have they said that Killcams are native to all gametypes?

I believe it's been said that they're not native to all gametypes. Though I couldn't give you a particular source due to the information diarrhea that started late last week and hasn't let up since. I think I remember it being in one of the interviews or gameplay commentaries that accompanied the reveal of the Dominion gametype.

There's a lot you can learn from the slam cam.

Yeah, I think the railgun or any of the rocket launcher analogues would work. Certainly better than the laser, at least. I wouldn't be surprised to see Scattershots in one or both of the caves. It sharing a niche with the Shotgun's gonna be kinda weird, in the same way that the Sword/Hammer coexistence is weird.

As far as I know, as it's been described, the initial weapon set on a map is fixed. So the Laser, if it is actually the hill weapon (which seems likely, but we don't know for sure), will be there at the start of every game.

The only thing I don't like about kill cams is how they give away the position of snipers. Otherwise, they're awesome.
