Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

You can no longer think of "small" in the Halo traditional sense of the past 4 Halo games. Universal sprint changes everything about the speed of map movement.

Aren't Solace, Haven, and Adrift all symmetrical and small (small by 343 standards)?

I mean Midship small. I honestly can't see how sprint really could affect maps unless it's like 6v6/7v7/8v8. In competitive gametypes, once everyone has setup, they aren't moving around all that much.

Solace and Haven are, yeah.

So far we have:

Haven (Arena)
Adrift (Arena)
Longbow (BTB)
Exile (BTB)
Ragnarok (BTB)
Solace (Arena)
Complex (?)
Secret map 1
Secret map 2
Secret map 3

Arena in this case means 4v4 and 5v5, BTB means 6v6 and 8v8. I'd personally like two more Arena maps and one more BTB map. The themes for said Arena style maps should be Forerunner and Covenant.

People are quick to forget how Sprint changes gameplay and sizes for maps. I really like Haven and Solace so far, should suit the hardcore competitive crowd fine.

They seem huge compared to something like Lockout, Beaver Creek, or Midship. That being said, those three maps would be way too small with sprint, but the maps we've seen seem just a little too big.

just my opinion, but i havent played the game so i can't really say how they actually feel

It's been said over and over and over and over that we already have small maps announced for Halo 4. With sprint as a default ability, the new small maps are bigger than the small maps from past Halo games. We're not going to get Midship-size maps, nor should we.
Just means that there won't be any good maps fit for MLG after the inevitable removal of sprint.

I mean Midship small.

Oh. Well, then you can take your prediction straight to the bank. There will be no official Midship-small maps in H4, symmetrical or otherwise. The only place you'll see anything like that would be from the Forge community, and even then it wouldn't be likely to see the light of day in matchmaking.

Here's what I really want to know:

The Mantis has a move where it can stomp on and smash vehicles. (And, presumably, infantry.)

There's got to be a medal for that, right? If so, what's it called?

MLG needs to get with the times. They can't expect 343 to design maps just for people that disable mechanics. Sprint is fine in MLG.

Grifball needs to get with the times. They can't expect 343 to design maps just for people that disable mechanics. Jetpack is fine in Grifball.

One, forge-made map for Grifball (within a Forge environment). It is also a side gametype, not Halo really. MLG wants to be "competitive Halo." If so, they need to play competitive Halo, not "as close to Halo 2 as we can get whatever Halo game is out right now."

Is it just me or is anyone else tired of shaky cam footage?

This just doesn't cut it. Direct feed or bust.

I remember the first time I saw Metroid Prime footage- it was shaky cam, but that's all there was and I loved it. Then when it came out and played it, I was kinda disappointed that everything wasn't tinted blue.

Is it possible to disable sprint?

MLG (or whatever the playlist ends up being called) would, in my view, be very foolish getting rid of sprint so early in Halo 4's life span.

Halo 4's maps, (some of which seem ideal for MLG play - Solace and Haven) are built WITH sprint in mind.

Getting rid of sprint would mean almost total reliance on remakes, detaching the experience from vanilla Halo 4 even more.

Although for Halo purists who know the remakes very well this is good news and a return to some of their favourite is ideal for them, this leaves little room for growth in the competitive Halo 4 scene. How will a new player come to terms with completely alien maps with a foreign settings (no sprint, AA's etc..)

If this does happen, the Halo 4 mlg playlist will be so far removed from vanilla Halo 4 the community will disperse even more than Reach.

I really hope that MLG TRY to keep their settings as close to Halo 4 vanilla, i know that isn't always the case, but is beneficial to them.

I think MLG should adapt to Halo 4's style of play and keep it and some of the other stuff, keep it as close as possible to "normal".

That's what I fear is another Halo game getting broken down for no reason. I just hope the competitive community can have a word in what in our playlist (if we get one) and how it works from the community feedback instead of 2-3 members. There is no guarantee there will be MLG Halo 4 after the upcoming event, there's already talks of CoD Black Ops 2 on twitter via Sundance.

Agreed. MLG needs to work within the tools they're given to create the best possible competitive nature, not see how close they can get Halo 4's settings to Halo CE's.

Even if Halo 4's style isn't suited well for competitive play? (not saying it isn't, but just purely speculating).

Yes. I fail to see how removing sprint will change that. Save your responses, I've heard the arguments against sprint and I do not agree.

As for other things, sure tweak or remove them. I could see removing some of the AAs and such, making weapons map pickups, forging some changes to maps, but changing kill times and player traits seems unnecessary. It made sense for Reach, but if it gets changed for 4 then it seems they will be changing just to be different.

That's not nearly enough arena. How are there as many big team battle maps so far? Its a nice addition, but I never saw it as replayable/balanced as normal 4v4/5v5 with no or very few vehicles. A bunch of vehicles just clutters things up and kinda screws up regular infantry play-which is to me the best part about Halo. Reach suffered from the same problem. Here's to playing the same 5 maps over and over again (and I will, oh I will).

Yes. The further they remove MLG variants from vanilla, the less interest there will be from anyone except the same tiny contingent of people that play competitively now.

People act like MLG always completely changes the game. Up until Halo Reach MLG was always relatively close to the base game. Reach has been the only game where MLG is actually a completely different game and this was for obvious reasons. If Halo 4 is competitively sound out of the box than MLG will most likely stay pretty close to vanilla.

So it makes sense to make a unique map and settings for a gametype that is "not Halo really," but not for a gametype that is much closer to "real" Halo, whatever that is? Doesn't that seem odd?

There's beneficial for MLG in terms of popularity, and then there's beneficial for MLG in terms of settings that actually have competitive merit. Removing sprint would be harmful in the former sense, but helpful in the latter.

Furthermore, just because the devs built the maps "with sprint in mind" doesn't mean that they succeeded in making maps that work well with sprint. I'm not sold on the two-level hugeness of Solace being perfectly negated by sprint in 5v5/4v4 (not to mention 2v2, which might not even exist anymore).

EVeryone spawning in a Mantis + 200% speed = MechAssault gametype in Halo 4.

Got my Roxio Game Capture HD in today, but I'm having problems with streaming.

The video keeps stuttering, no matter what resolution or settings I have. Anyone know what would cause this? I tried using both my laptop and my brother's laptop (I don't think it's the power of the computers we're using as his is pretty powerful), and it kept doing it.

And let's not forget that they actually gave vanilla Reach (or pretty darn close to it) a shot in the beginning - sprint, bloom, shield system, melee, etc. included.
