Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

Another BTB map, OH THE JOY.
Consider the size of Exile and Ragnarok, this is actually large. Those two could easily be placed in the 5v5 CTF playlist - proper adjustments to vehicles and power weapons, of course.

I'm intrigued, not sure how the figure-8 will do here, and how weapon placement is handed out. It's nice seeing there's simply Ghosts and Warthogs on the map rather than a tank or Banshee. The placements of the gravity lifts and teleporter is also pretty well done by the looks of it, and the base is actually, a base! Seems to look good from the video. Hopefully the flag isn't placed outside in a random spot on dirt/gravel and instead inside.

This IGN dude is obsessed with the Banshee. "Why isn't there one on this map, it seems like it'd be awesome!"

Sigh.

Complex still confuses the heck out of me.

Ragnarok and Exile play well in 4vs4 or 5vs5. I won't count them as BTB maps.

Aren't you mixing up campaign screenshots?
No. It is a MP map:

Meltdown reminds me of that Snow Mountain from FF12. I forget the name, but it's a compliment. I loved that area.

Enjoy.

Now, someone relate this to halo.

There was an ODST soundtrack, which was called "traffic jam", I think. At least I have a track, which is called so and it was released in one of the Bungie weekly's, before ODST was released.

And sorry if I'm late or if it was mentioned already.

So far, every single MP map looks great. Abandon is the only one I have reservations about, but it still looks better than most Reach maps!

Also, somehow I didn't realize Adrift is symmetrical. The walkthrough really sold me on it.

Is it possible we don't have a Covie map because they won't have ships around in the campaign? Aren't the Covies we're fighting rogue factions?

Can't remember if we saw any Covie ships around Requiem in the story stuff.

I've looked through about a hundred different numbers, I don't think the 10th map video has been posted. :p

That's some BS. There's plenty of covenant ships that made it's way onto Requiem. Doesn't have to be a big map...

MP locales have nothing to do with Campaign.

The E3 demo when Chief sees the Forerunner sphere, infinity and practically an armada of Covie ships.

Mmm.. so now we have 5 BTB and 4 Medium maps?

Shouldn't it be like 7 medium/small and about 3 BTB for launch? Forge maps galore in MM at launch.

6 small-mid maps (Adrift, Haven, Complex, Abandon, Solace, Exile) and 3 large maps (Ragnarok, Meltdown, Longbow) have been shown

Meltdown and Complex look absolutely fantastic to play on. I'm slowly turning back to H4 MP but I'll still go in with low expectations.

Exile is a BTB map.

Extremely cramped for a BTB map imo. More like a 5v5 objective map.

I don't love the darkness of Adrift but I could see it being one of my favorite maps. It seems like it and Haven are the 2 that will give is the most classic Halo feel. I also really like Solace.

Kinda crazy knowing the 10th map will be the largest Halo map.. so many BTB maps, but then again with increased movement and sprint maybe things won't seem as large. Now I'm dying to see that final map, assuming its floating around in IGN's site somewhere. I really can't believe they posted this stuff so early.

I really hope the last map is something totally different. Halo 4 has such a different aesthetic from the older games - I kind of want a human themes and covie themed map in there somewhere.

Exile and Complex are both mid-large maps. Surely?

Put it this way. Only 4/9 maps don't have vehicles. If the last one is the mammoth one then 4/10.

I really am excited about every single map so far. But yeah, Haven and Solace are the two I'm most amped about. I love me some 4v4 (or now 5v5?) symmetrical maps. But I'm also REALLY excited for a BTB revival in Halo 4 after how terrible it was in Reach. Meltdown looks like the best BTB map so far, followed by Longbow. I still think Ragnarok and Exile look too small for BTB. Especially Ragnarok. It really feels more like a 5v5 map to me.

Meltdown looks very, very fine.

Great infantry/vehicle paths overlapping, fluid route options between levels, good sight lines that the curving design of the map breaks naturally.

Avalanche and Rat's Nest had a baby, and she's purdy.

Complex is still really confusing to me.

I don't get the map layout at all.

The Skybox sure is pretty though.

Woah I noticed that Darthbob bumped the last Halo thread (probably by accident) - and got banned.

Be careful guys!

Really hyped to play a game of BTB on Meltdown, looks like a lot of fun, and that skybox looks amazing.

There are probably going to be a lot of maps used as hybrids, so segregating them into distinct categories doesn't really work in the same way that it has in previous games. Ragnarok seems like it'd work just fine in 5v5, despite its area being relatively large. Same for Exile. Those will both almost assuredly appear in both big team and smaller count playlists. Complex I think could be used in that way as well. It's very compartmentalized, so 5v5 makes some sense, but the total surface area of the map is giant, and it's really very complex (see what i did there something something) so big team matches on it don't seem out of the question.

You can certainly get away with having three separate categories rather than two, though: Small Teams Only (Haven, Adrift, Solace, Abandon), Hybrid - think 6v6 maps from past games (Ragnarok, Exile, possibly Longbow, Complex), and Large Teams Only (Meltdown, possibly Longbow)

I think something people need to keep in mind is that since sprint has become a permanent ability available to everyone, the map sizes as a whole have to grow. A map the size of say Lockout would be even more hectic (and potentially frustrating) since you could traverse the map in half the time that it normally takes.

My argument against this has always been, "then whats the point of Sprint?" As far as I can tell, sprint is supposed to get players into and out of the action more rapidly than before. If all the maps get exponentially larger due to sprint, it defeats the entire purpose of sprint. Why not just keep the maps smaller and not have sprint?

Yeah, I think you're right. Here's how I see it:

Small Team Only:
Haven
Adrift
Solace
Abandon (?)

Small Team AND Big Team:
Ragnarok
Exile
Complex

Big Team Only:
Longbow
Meltdown

The answer is "because players expect a modern FPS to have sprint".

This mining ship where Adrift locates is on low orbit of a planet while you have FULL gravity? Color me impressed for this nonsensical setting that defies the physics.

Every object on low orbit should feel zero gravity or near zero gravity for all the gravity serves as centripetal force, unless you are hovering against the rotation of the planet, or the ship is self-rotating.

343i am disappointed.

Just saw the Meltdown vid. Map looks really good and did I just saw a Light Bridge? I remember people wanting that thing forever, that's really cool and it would be really cool, if you could activate/deactivate it for certain gametypes. Would work well in Invasion, I think.

Edit: Top of page. :lol

I remember a while back Frankie was talking about a new favorite BTB map that reminded him of Avalanche...

I think we know which map he's talking about now. :)

Really looking forward to playing Meltdown...

They could toss in a small-ish map with each Forge pallette, there's like 4 of those with 3 unrevealed no?

Sort of like default Foundry was a MP map in Halo 3

Because it makes for more dynamic gameplay and feels right?
