There’s no stopping EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ (-72%) which easily holds the No1 in our All Formats Chart for a second week.

A Tuesday release for Capcom’s latest instalment of its horror franchise ‘Resident Evil 6’ debuts at No2. Despite becoming the 4th biggest release of 2012 it’s unable to match its predecessor which shot to No1 in Week 11 2009. Last week’s No2 ‘Borderlands 2’ (-56%) drops down a place to No3, placing it ahead of Ubisoft’s new release ‘Just Dance 4’ which debuts at No4. Publisher Take 2 appears twice in this week’s Top 10 with developer Visual Games’ new release ‘NBA 2K13’ landing at No6.

The same can be said for Ubisoft with last week’s new release ‘Rocksmith’ (-11%) still holding the No7 spot. ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ (0%) is still at No8 ahead of ‘Pro Evolution 2013’ (-48%) which slips four places from No5 to No9. Square Enix’ four time No1 holder ‘Sleeping Dogs’ (-43%) is still in our Top 10 at No10.

Angry Birds up 5 places. Must be word-of-mouth as people hear about a hidden gem amongst the AAAAAA trash.

Vita going from strength to strength must be making the Mario Machine nervous.

Fifa 13 (Electronic Arts) - 352.800 / 1.612.800

I didn't know there was already a new Just Dance game.

Dead or Alive 5 had a massive drop.

If Mass Effect 3 is the third best-selling title of the year then Resident Evil 6 has debuted selling below 173.000 units.

This post...man, this post. :p

Holland chart has IEStrikers in top 10, kind of starting to confirming what Aostia said.

Moreover, in Holland, Angry Birds trilogy is third in the 3DS specific chart ( higher than MK7) and absent from both PS3 and 360 top 10. So, probably in Holland the game debuted better on 3DS than on the othet consoles.

A Tuesday release for Capcom’s latest instalment of its horror franchise ‘Resident Evil 6’ debuts at No2. Despite becoming the 4th biggest release of 2012 it’s unable to match its predecessor which shot to No1 in Week 11 2009.

I found this post from Mpl90 when Resident Evil: Revelations came out:

"Yes, but there were Monthly Charts. And I actually found, after some research, the numbers

For the whole March:

03 [360] Resident Evil 5 (167,000)
04 [PS3] Resident Evil 5 (130,000)

Not that Vicarous Gamer Chartz site: they've been posted on Gaf by bttp a long time ago; fortunately, somewhere else they've been conserved.

Total: 297,000

Considering what the news relative to March 2009 on GFK site says ( first week: x ; second week: - 52% from the first; third week: - 51% from the second ), we can calculate it

x + 0.48x + 0.48(0.49)x = 297,000
x1,7152 = 297,000
x = 173,157

http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=639&s=1111

[360] Resident Evil 5 - 95,236
[PS3] Resident Evil 5 - 77,921

[PS2] Resident Evil 4 - 24,200"

What happened with UGA ? Price drop ?

Sainsburys have had their brilliant LBP bundle out for a couple of weeks now (that's also been advertised on tv quite a bit), so it's likely a lot of those people are picking up Uncharted as their second game.

There's only three 3ds titles in the entire Top40 - and all Mario titles at that.

or to put it more pejoratively -

Handheld gaming lol

Have you stumbled into this PAL charts thread by accident? Are there other charts that you'd rather discuss?

The performance of the 3DS in the UK is worth looking at because thus far it's been piss-poor outside of 1st party titles. Even then, only the Mario stuff seems to have any legs. Sonic Generations is doing OK as I understand it though, do we have any LTD for that?

user_nat

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
OK, so it seems ME3 launched at ~160k, so RE6 is under 160k.

Looks like Max Payne was previously the game behind Mass Effect.
This doesn't really help, because as far as I can tell we never narrowed Max Payne down more than > 84k.

So RE6 > MP3 > 84k.

I know, but I've seen too many times in these threads that UK is considered like the only relevant chart to look at in order to understand how things go in Europe as a whole. And that was wrong in the past and it's wrong especially now, with the depressed numbers of the market.

@user_nat: It seems ME3 did 173k at debut, so it's more like 173k > RE6 > MP3 > 84k.

Only Japan is allowed to be singled out as different culturally don't you know?
Also Sleeping Dogs is obviously a MASSIVE hit - WOW!

Mario really is all that sells it seems. It just sits there selling away in the charts - not too great but at least it has legs.
For anyone else though the UK is not a big market anymore; its just a place to get a few extra sales; nothing significant - but then outside of some releases...thats true of the console half in the UK too.

Is angry birds trilogy full price?

UK market might not be as important as it was, but I'm fairly sure devs/pubs/manufacturers still look at it as a large part of the Euro market, they'll all want to do well there -- especially if/when things pick up with the start of a new generation.

Vita's resurgence shows that advertising can work. The UK ads are great imo.

Like, I don't know: Inazuma Eleven is a flop?

Holland:
09 (__) [WII] Inazuma Eleven Strikers (Nintendo)
Italy:
05 (__) [WII] Inazuma Eleven Strikers (Nintendo)

Plus: UK market is the largest market in Europe, but no more as it used to be. It's decreasing a lot (-40% YoY) and German and French market are on track.

Btw, it's clear that portable gaming is not so healthy as it used to be. Lucky Nintendo to have the Mario franchise that is able to sell well even in the West.
claiming Vita as a real competitor up to now for the 3DS, it's debatable, imho, but probably was just a joke, as forgetting the good performances of KH 3D in most of the PAL regions (except for Spain and Italy where it wasn't distributed properly, and we all know) or the good performances of Harvest Moon in Germany (if a game as problems in UK, a lot of Gaffers declare its flop, while if it performs well in Germany, it doesn't matter, also if German market is as big as the UK one, up to now)

To be fair a KH on any platform would have charted equally. The fanbase for KH follows the franchise from console to console (I know, I'm one of them :p)

I agree, more or less.
And that doesn't change that it performed well in PAL charts :)

This hasn't held true in Japan however. It flopped in true style over there.
And thats with a handheld market that laughs in the face of consoles and where a lot of software is selling better on the 3DS.

That's obvious, but it's nice to see LBP and FIFA Vita have some legs and demand increasing when there are actual games coming out.

For the first week? Sure. But KH did well for many weeks, not just the debut one...while both the other handheld chapters ( not just BbS, but 358/2 Days too) didn't obtain to stay in charts so much.

Nono, I'm one of those surprised to see LBP Vita still going in charts. Bundles are helping for sure, but it's still a good result, after many months of nothing for the platform.

I find it interesting how FIFA Vita has stayed pretty much in the same position (18->19) while the Wii Version dropped from 11 to 22. They're both equally lazy roster updates from last years version :p

Probably another sign of bundles helping.

Probably another sign of bundles helping.

Fifa Vita has been getting a lot of tie in ads with the PS3 version.
Its been the most marketing the console has had...well actually its the most and best its had.

Also a lot of PS Vita ads at football matches I've noticed.

the UK is not a big market anymore; its just a place to get a few extra sales; nothing significant - but then outside of some releases...thats true of the console half in the UK too.

Market decline is not unique to the UK though; the US is also experiencing similar declines. The only bright spot in Japan too is the 3DS. And in mitigation of console titles, we are in the twilight years of an extended console generation and a period of transition to the next. Furthermore, console hardware prices are comparatively higher now than at similar points in previous generations. There's also the issue of downloadable content that is not tracked in a publicy available chart format that further muddies the waters.

Surprised JD4 didn't chart for 360, did alright (although paled in comparison to Wii version) last year.

Kinect has just died in the last wee while it seems.
There remains some sort of casual market with the Wii nicely dusted in their front room.

True, UK could just be moving more into the downloadable space.
But its numbers have been down right awful at times; something not as well seen outside of Europe.

Until theres some sort of 'household survey' to track downloads we'll never really know. Game sales are icebergs these days; no idea how much lies below the surface.

I realise this is probably an exageration but both handhelds are doing pretty shit. Nintendo should definitely be worried about the 3DS performance in western territories but not because of how the vita is doing (which is even worse).

Fixed. Even if I think it's improved a lot compared to the pre-XL months, looking at how NSMB2 is still pretty high despite the big number of releases ( or better, the big number of SKUs) of the last weeks in UK.

Three Vita games!?

Good to see LittleBigPlanet doing fairly well. FIFA is doing pretty well too, which i suppose is good, even if it is crap/
