My Wii U died and I lived to tell about it

So one fear has been sorted then, you can recover your games should your system go pop. I know a few people posted they were worried about that.

BLOD (Blue Light of Death) CLOT! (Console Lost, Obituary Time)

My WiiU, BLOD CLOT!

Hilarious

RROD
YLOD
BLOD CLOT

Next Gen is gonna be hilarious

Most likely Durango = WLOD (White)
Orbis = OLOD (Orange)

Orbis will get Black Lights of Death, a fucking black hole will open everytime it happens.

Idk I think it's pretty decent all things considered. Definetly way better than the launch ps3 system software. I mean that was a real crap show at launch and look at it now, give Nintendo a little time.

My launch PS3 didn't start freezing until 3 years in. Luckily that was around the time the slim was announced.

Its name is intimidating enough.

Console froze the first couple times when I tried to start a new save file for the Association mode for NBA 2K13, but after the third try it works and loads fine.

No problems with NSMB U so far, or Nintendoland, and the O/S speed isn't really bad at all. Did that get patched in the first week or so?

Thanks for beta testing for the EU launch :)

Srsly though, what are the chances the the day one update is preinstalled on EU models? Would they not have had enough time? Have the EU models been manufactured too long ago now?

Good point, seems that way so that's potentially good news!
I reckon they're gonna roll out the ability to migrate accounts...they have to. Why else give you the option to sign in with an existing account if thid wasn't in the works?s

From Reggie's talk during the Wii U launch, Nintendo needed up until the USA launch to work on the patch, so it would be rather difficult/impossible to have this update included in the EU consoles before they were packed and sent out, I would imagine.

Sad story man, I hope to hear more from you when you'll call Nintendo's customer service next time so that you can finally download your NSMBU and get your Nintendo Land back...seriously I can't understand they didn't sent it back since you left a letter with it and warned them. D:

So, is the account migration done by Nintendo CS, or automatically when you sign in an existing account?

It is important for importers like us...

I came into this BLOD thread weary, came out happy.

Now if my disc drive dies like it did on my Wii, I don't have to go through some song and dance to get it fixed.

I asume they just weren't ready to. Mind boggling as that sounds, but it becomes more and more obvious that Nintendo didn't consider this until after the 3DS was launched and they got a lot of shit for that account system.

It's nowhere near certain that they will give users the option to migrate accounts, but I will push towards that, and I'd encourage anyone who values their consumer rights to do the same. Spam their mail inboxes, spam Miiverse, get some blogs on it.

Figured I'd also post this in here since it's about Wii U console problems.

Anyone else having issues with their Wii U reading discs when switching a game?

So far it only seems to happen for me with NSMBU. I play it, eject the disc and the system freezes. I tried exiting back out to the Wii U menu to switch, eject disc, insert new game, and it while it doesn't freeze it won't read the new game. If I power down and back on then it reads the game.

Not really sure what to make of this problem at this time. I just wrote Nintendo Customer Service/Support an email about the issue.

I havent had any in game freezing yet. but this has happened to me 2-3 times I think. Ejecting a disc while it is playing, maybe even when the home menu is screws it up. Seems to lock up the system.

I think it says "insert a game disc" on the tv. but putting in a new game didnt do anything. I cant remeber if putting the previous game back in fixed it or not.

Also had a weird lock up whith download in background set to power off after finishing, and then my internet dropped. Gamepad shut off. I Had to unplug the system. Plugging it back in did nothing. Gamepad would only say, cant connect to system. But unplugging it for 5 secs fixed it. Been fine ever since.

And the loading times arent really that long

so they didn't actually transfer you account, they just unlinked your account from the previous console, and then you linked the old account to a new hw...

this pretty much means that all we need is a system to manually unlink our accounts, and we are good to go.

That´s harsh.

I keep thinking: i want a WiiU. But i have to import one since they dont oficially sell it in my country. So that means extra cost. And extra time. And imagine if after all that i get a WiiU and it just dies on me like this?

Let us not forget.

Can somebody tell me this (apparently) beautiful story?

Long time ago so I might not remember quite right but console kept failing. User complained. Turned out it was on sub. Much mocking. Claimed pictured sub was wine cooler.

This is my situation, but I already took the plunge. I should hopefully have it by the end of the week.

I am so scared, you have no idea :(

I remember when the wii first hit the market and i got one 3 months after. I was scared, but there wasnt that much reports of exploding systems like its happening with the WiiU

So yeah, i really have no idea. And i wish you good luck

BTW... where did you get one? I was hoping for the international shipping on toysrus, but the wiiU "is not elegible for international shipping"

My Wii U certainly hasn't broken, but it has displayed a few odd glitches now and then. Every now and then, when I insert a disc, the system throws up an error claiming the disc could not be read despite showing the icon for said disc just a moment before the error appears. We'll see what happens, I guess...

Still can't access the eShop. Might have to send the console in for repair AGAIN. This is getting ridiculous.

http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/wii-u-eshop-error-107-3133.452770403/

I just received my Wii U today after sending it into Nintendo to get repaired. I was able to open my eShop once, but then it wouldn't let me. It keeps giving me the error code 107-3133, which Nintendo support doesn't recognize. Everything else works fine. Netflix, Miiverse, Internet browser, all that stuff. It's just the eShop that isn't working. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone else fix it?

Yeah so here's what I found out with mine: if I created a new Nintendo Network ID it would let me login to the eShop one time but only once before it gave me that error code. I can create as many NNIDs as I want with the same result. I can get in once but if I leave and then immediately enter in again, it gives me that same code. I worked on the phone with Nintendo for 4 hours without a solution. We changed tons of settings in my system, I tried using a different modem and wireless router, etc. But we never found a solution. I had to send it in again. As of yesterday, they said they had no reported problems with other systems. In fact, they didn't even know of the error code before I called.

So unfortunately, it's very likely you'll have to send your system in again as well. Sorry for the bad news...

I'm getting the same error they're getting. I haven't called Nintendo yet. So frustrating.

Ive had zero crashes or glitches thus far on Nintendoland, Mario or the OS. Luck of the draw I guess.

More like luck on when you played it, OR you aren't connected to the internet. Nintendoland's crashes were directly connected to Miiverse being down, as confirmed by many people on neogaf and other forums.

Can you test it at a friends house? (rule out a network / firewall issue)

Seems odd that you'd get the exact same problem. If you've not tried port forwarding, the old Wii used TCP 28910, 29900, 29901, 29920, 80, and 443... (80 and 443 are normal HTTP/S traffic so just do port forwarding for the 2xxxx numbers).

If your router has a DMZ (demilitarized zone) - set up your Wii U so it gets a Static IP address and then put that IP address in the DMZ setting.

I was able to access the shop once, then error every time after. It's connecting to every other online app.

I'm still not clear if purchases are tied to your account or not. When you did get into the shop the one time, did it recognize that you already bought NSMBU and could redownload it?

Hm... I'd still try tinkering with the network you never know, but that sounds more like something to do with your account (something at their end) or maybe cacheing eshop data on your system? Sounds fucked up / wrong, either way.

If you create a new NNID (something random) will it be the same thing there? It lets you in once but never again after that?

at last, for christ's sake
I came in expecting a really different thread, now I'm just glad things went out as smooth as can be for you OP. This is also good news for those who might incur in such experiences

The launch ps3 didn't take 15 seconds to hop in and out of menus.

Good for you OP, 7 day turnaround is much faster than I expected. My launch day Wii U came pre-installed with the Blue Light of Death, happened as soon as I turned it on, nothing was ever displayed or output to my TV.

Returned to Best Buy and got my money back because they were out of stock on Deluxe SKUs. Got a call back from the store 30 minutes later (before I left the shopping center) that they got more in stock, so I went and grabbed a second one. My second one has been fine.

I am experiencing the Horn of Death like many others on my second one and I had to disable my network connection/Miiverse to get games working. Waiting for a patch now.

My buddy's Wii U kept on crashing upon loading various games after about 8 hours of use. He took it back to EB and got a replacement.

Between this and the hard lock thread, the idea of my WiiU failing is the one reason keeping me from buying one right now. Hope these incidents are isolated.

Why the hell would you do this? Who stops a game in the middle of it playing, and then puts in another game? Hit the Home Button, "Close Software", eject that disc and put in a new one. No wonder it's freezing up.
