A weaker chart debut for Wii U vs Wii, then. Although the market now vs then might make absolute comparisons more difficult.

Wait a second, didn't notice the AC3 number. Probably something went wrong: that's where you put percentages, not actual numbers. :lol

I swear they've done that before around big releases. Someone at the UKIE is cheeky IMO ;)

Edit: That makes the best case scenario for the Wii U ~90k (assuming NO drop between #5 and #11, and only 60% Nintendoland ownership). Actual is probably way lower.

3DS games coming up again. Were getting into the Christmas mood.
Mario Kart is the one to watch with NoE giving free copies of 3D Land out

E.g. The 'oh shit we forgot to make games' deal

that AC3 number is very useful to extrapolate.

Halo 4 I think is ~40k this week, very rough calculations.

The basic model should have never existed and it's becoming increasingly obvious no one wants it. And it actually seems these positions are pretty mediocre.

its also interesting to note i dont believe stock levels on the basic model are very high, i was at the hmv launch event and on top of whatever they had for preorders they got in an extra 480 premium packs, 40 zombi u packs and only 8 basic

It probably is, but a lot of the Wii U's games are multiplatform making it hard to do a glance and check.

Well, Twilight Princess debuted at number 5 when Wii launched, vs NSMBU at 14. Perhaps the higher number of third party games diluted the impact of any one game with Wii U, although I'd be surprised if NSMBU wasn't a go-to title for a lot of day one buyers.

Tbf TP sold 1:1 in the US; so a similar situation in the UK seems likely at the time.

If the economy is the source of the UK's troubles, I doubt throwing more expensive things at it will work.

what makes you think next xbox will be more expensive? wiiu is more expensive than than the 360 was at launch (£280 vs £300), wiiu is overpriced for what it is, and it seems gamers recognise that

Welp. At least the Ambassador program should be nice, and at least I'm enjoying this system right out of the gate unlike the 3DS.

Despite this chart though I have a really hard time picturing how the Wii U has launched lower than Vita numbers. I really do. I live in Sheffield, so one of the largest cities in the UK, and the Vita has absolutely no retail presence as far as I can tell. I didn't see anyone buying one at launch. I've never seen anyone buy one since. I've never seen one in the wild. Never heard anyone talking about it.

When I went into my local GAME and HMV stores over the past few weeks and launch, there was at least conversation happening about the U. I saw people asking about it, and buying games, and placing pre-orders, and picking up pre-orders, and have seen people I'd associate as "non-gamers" mention it..

I'd say those two launches were night and day apart in my experience. I'm not saying anybody who thinks he Vita launched better is wrong, but I can't wrap my head around that if it is true.

Almost exactly 6 years to the day, the successor to Nintendo Wii arrives, heralding the next console generation.

Nintendo’s Wii U launched on Friday 30th November 2012 (Wii on Friday 8th December, 2006) and Wii U arrives with 24 launch titles spread over 11 publishers, more than any other home console ever launched in the UK (there were 14 launch titles for Wii spread over 8 publishers). Just like with Wii there are 2 first party launch titles ‘Nintendo Land’ & ‘New Super Mario Bros. U’(Wii had ‘Zelda: Twilight Princess’ & ‘Wii Play’) and just like before, these 1st party titles are the top-selling games, with ‘Nintendo Land’ bundled within an official launch pack (see below).
Also just like before, Ubisoft have the greatest number of launch titles with 6 for Wii U compared to 4 for Wii. And Ubisoft can again claim to have the best-performing 3rd party launch title, thanks this time to ‘Zombi U’ (‘Red Steel’ back on Wii), but of course ‘Zombi U’ was sold solus and also as a flagship title within the Premium 32GB Zombi U Pack. Indeed, the Zombi U Pack accounted for 30% of Wii U hardware for week 1. This, coupled to the 60% share of the Premium 32GB Nintendo Land Pack means that only 10% of week 1 Wii U customers opted for the Wii U 8GB Basic Pack.

Looking at the Entertainment Software All Formats Top 40, Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ takes a 3rd straight week at No1 (-35%) with a Wii U version debuting this week. Ubisoft claim the biggest new entry at No2 with ‘Far Cry 3’ for 360/PS3/PC and this title becomes the 9th biggest launch of 2012, just behind last week’s ‘Hitman Absolution’. EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ remains at No3 for a 4th week in a row (+19%) and also welcomes a Wii U version into the family. This means that ‘FIFA 13’ is now available on 9 different formats, which has not happened since 1993/1994’s ‘FIFA International Soccer’, which also made it to 9 formats.

Square Enix’s ‘Hitman Absolution’ drops from a debut last week at No2 to No4 this week (-51%) and Ubsioft drop 1 place to No5 with ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (53,923), which this week gains 2 Wii U SKU’s (Standard edition and Join or Die edition). Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 4’ moves up 1 place to No6 (+48%) and also gets a Wii U edition. Warner’s ‘Lego The Lord of the Rings’ is at No7 (+6%) and Microsoft’s ‘Halo 4’ drops 3 places to No8 (-12%). Activision’s ‘Skylanders Giants’ is at No9 (+4%) also with a Wii U version and EA’s ‘Need For Speed Most Wanted’ takes No10 (+28%). The Top 3 Wii U titles all debut in the Top 40 with Nintendo’s ‘Nintendo Land’ at No11, ‘New Super Mario Bros. U’ at No 14 and Ubisoft’s ‘Zombi U’ at No17. In summary, there were 5 Wii U SKU’s of titles within the Top 10 and 10 Wii U versions of titles within the Top 40.

I'd like to see competitively priced consoles from MS & Sony - incremental (and by that, I mean noticeable...not a GC - Wii situation!) hardware upgrades for £200 or so. The last thing the industry needs is something ridiculously powerful that sends development costs even higher over the shark.

The 360 was was £300 at launch while the Wii U is £250.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Nintendoland did 26k it seems. Wii U bomba debut in UK.
But I want to see actual numbers for all Europe.

how many bomba exclusives can Sony afford to release? it's getting a bit worrying.

what happens if Beyond: Two Souls, God of War: Ascension and The Last Guardian bomb?

Striek

Wheres that Nintendoland figure come from? That would be the worst UK launch since...the DS? Or the Gamecube?

Edit: Both of those are way higher. That 26k seems unreasonably low.

The press over last weeks sales didn't do anything, it seems.

Looks like wii U has entered the market with a wimper. Nintendo have a lot of work to do to make this thing a success. The current line-up isn't all that good and the future line-up doesn't show much promise either.

I don't know why people insist on saying marketing is the issue with All-Stars, no one wanted or asked for it, tha's the problem

Why even develop the game if you're just going to send it to die like this?

Beyond Two Souls will bomba and Last Guardian doesn't exist.
If God of War struggles its a worry.

God of war will do well cause im pretty sure sony will market a lot and its their first party game after quite a while.

And its a sreies which genereally does well, we will see more from the game next year

Beyond ? Its a niche game where 1/2 million WW will be enough for them to make a profit and be a success.

Last guardian ? lol

how many bomba exclusives can Sony afford to release? it's getting a bit worrying.

Depends on how much audience they targeted.

All stars is a bomb cause they expected more from it.
Starhawk is as well/

Twisted Metal did decent and Mlb was a hit

Sony also have been barely marketing their second party games, maybe they are pretty much done with them this gen

we don't have the splits for this week yet but Nintendo Land is between 360 and ps3 version of ac3. when guardian updates you can get some numbers. for WiiU version of AC3 too maybe.

if we assume all of the 53k is for ps3 and 360 version (obviously it's not, there is WiiU and PC version too) and to a typical 60:40 split that puts Nintendo Land between ~21k and ~31k.

Nintendo Land number is roughly 60% of WiiU hardware sales.

Wow people are quick here!

Edit: Book of spells has been getting non-stop adverts here...still the same spot though..could be worse I guess. And yeah :/ PSASBR - must be due to people being broke especially after picking up some of the recent big titles..

To be honest the wii U performance isn't even all that surprising. Outside of the vita i can't remember the last time a console launched with this little hype.

And yeah :/ PSASBR - must be due to people being broke especially after picking up some of the recent big titles..

More likely because no one knows it exists and people don't want the game.
