People care about stuff that they're passionate about. I'm shocked.

The same kind of people who probably thought it made sense that a video game company was ranked above a bank that played an integral role in the collapse of the global economy as worst company in America.

Yeah. The only times Geoff is "liked" is when he's the first person to say the name of a new game on TV or when he asks Reggie a question he doesn't even answer.
I also like him when appears with the Doritospope hat. But not when 'forgets' GT5 or MGS4 for things like biggest upcoming games of the year or similar.
Sony doesn't send enough Doritos to GT.

The last time I entered this thread I ended up getting a craving for Doritos and went to the 24hr grocery store down the street to buy some. I never buy Doritos so this worked well for them.

anyone still actually interested in this?

yeah?
this isn't a fad that's over in a month.

when people make their lists of most important stories of the year... it will be next to 38 studios in a tie for first probably. this will be an ongoing broader discussion for years to come as people are empowered to become critical of games press.. as the picture was one of the first sparks for the fire, yeah i'd love to hear more about that spark.

I am indeed glad to see you are back in action. We need a dose of Accuracy™ in these parts.

Just telling it like it is. I don't think I've ever seen him post unless it was to hype up Bonus Round or the weekly GT show on Spike or their E3/VGA coverage.

anyone still actually interested in this?

Not really. I never understood it from the beginning. It's like everyone just noticed that he spends a lot of time on GT/Spike being a shill when it's pretty much his job there. Yeah it's nice when he has moments where he's nailing Reggie to the wall during an interview but 90% of the time he's in hypemaster mode.

The real interesting stuff was what happened after that picture came out when everyone was discussing their role as journalists and talking about that Square-Enix chick posing as a journalist.

We know he posts on GAF.

We know he said he would respond.

We will soon know if he is as good as his word.

He's been good for his word when he's given it, and that's only been in relation to VGA reveals. Nobody's been promised anything with regards to a response.

This thing looks huge and it's not getting that much visibility.

I didn't even knew about it stupid me wasn't following where I should. I only saw the doritoskeighley picture but never got to the whole picture.

I mean, VGAs, gametrailers, IGN, that's the biggest sponsor-based stuff, crap like music/movie celebrities announcing games they personally have zero connection to games is probably the most stupid things I've ever seen, by my standards it's an irrelevant and companies do it for the hype and getting an award.

And it's by far nothing surprising, i always has suspicions about GK and his GT, i always thogut it was a load of crap, especially as it had so much corporate feel to it, felt like bankers were behind it, that tone that is present there is just not welcome here.

You can clearly see GK jokes with Reggie fils-aime in almost every interview, where GK always teases or harrases Reggie to try to reveal more news at GT and the - Nintendo Direct was primarly created to battle against the corporate media spin.

I still don't understand what this is all about. Is there a wiki or a summary anywhere? Some article or review was modified because of publisher/sponsor complaints?

Hubris and money. Basically it's all a huge deal because games "journalists" refuse to admit that they are selling their credibility for tasty snack treats.

To be fair, they're very tasty. Geoff said so.

To that I will agree.

However if Geoff were smart he would not have been all Keighley and teased a response as if it were some big world exclusive. If he'd have just let this go it'd be dead by now. That's the hubris part I had mentioned.

I'd be surprised if he really does say anything. Either he tries to defend it, from which nothing good can possibly happen except the flame war starts anew, or he tries to walk it back, which won't really do anything about the broader problem.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
We know he posts on GAF.

We will soon know if he is as good as his word.
What do you want from him, really?

Um no. A lot of their stuff is very well done.
I agree, GameTrailers is actually some of the best game-related content outside of YouTube.

HOLY SHIIIIII
That article starts off with calling Geoff a "games journalist", when that hasn't even been anything close to his role in the industry for at least 10 years. He's a media personality and presenter, it's unfair to Geoff to lump him in as a "journalist" and it has happened so many times during this "scandal" that it's probably a worse offense by the writers for calling him that than it was for him to have a screenshot taken sitting next to Doritos and Mtn Dew.

Except that he calls himself one. That's the big deal.

The only problem that could've been for Geoff - if this made the fact he is a PR puppet too visible. I know we all know that and implicitly take all his words with a grain of salt, but that tiny tiny bit of "integrity" must be very valuable - otherwise nobody would listen to him and then game companies will just find someone else.

So Geoff is in a tricky situation - does he have to respond or will this blow over? I'm sure he hates being exposed like this.

Geoff, take the advice - don't say shit. The less new blog posts, articles on Kotaku and Polygon, the better for you.

HOLY SHIIIIII

I still can't figure out what Geoff's role in this was, if any. It sounds like they just used that photo as a jumping off point for a larger criticism, but never mentioned Geoff again. So what are we demanding he answer for?

I mean I took his announcement to say that he had some thoughts on the issue he would share when he got time, not, "I will be issuing a statement on these accusations after I have consulted with an attorney."

I'm still not even clear what he did wrong, if anything.
