LEGO GAF |OT2|: Building Dreams. Demolishing Wallets

Horizon is calling to me as well. The first pic I saw just set the sexy alarms off. Dat orange! Those sleek lines!

But if you can find it for a good price right now, grab Maersk while you can. Fantastic build except for the sheer volume of stickers. It was my first train set, and it was a ton of fun. Horizon is up next.

I'm waiting for a cool promo item before I get the Horizon. The current Arco-Fighter promo set isn't doing it for me yet.

Same with The Zombies. Grrrr

Oh, god. You actually held the tangible product and still walked away? You are a stronger man than I would be.

Well, I'm not gonna pretend like I coolly put it back on the shelf and walked out of the store. I lingered, sir. Oh did I linger!

lol Phonciple, seems we used to have some of the same sets as kids, i also found my treasure map tile in my old Legos now (that i washed a couple days ago) along with that red bearded Pirate captain, a monkey and 2 out of 3 ship pieces which means i HAD to have that Black Seas Barracuda set no? Maybe these came in other sets as well though back then not sure, thing is i don't even know whether it was the Barracuda, i can't put it together obviously since i am missing the third ship piece :(

You may have had one of the other Pirate sets besides Black Seas Barracuda. Do you still have the sails? If so, BSB had red and white striped sails. I still have those and most of the masts and rigging, but none of the main hull parts.

I can't find any sails anymore, but then not sure why that is... Maybe i had another set OR i lost them as a kid... i was pretty messy back then not giving a damn about my stuff oftentimes :(

The ship hull parts tell me that it was a ship set i owned though ;) I also spotted a Mast piece on my attic the other day...

I wanted to post this earlier, but I went on a short trip after Christmas. Look what I got as a present!

The Death Star.... It's not for me personally but still, i envy you for your instantaneous minifig collection you get with it!! Awesome.

Hmm now i am wondering where i could get myself some of those red imperial guards from...

My local ShopKo has some sets on clearance at 40% off. Just picked up the Seaside House and the Monster Fighter Scientist set for a grand total of $60. Warning: ShopKo sometimes puts sets at higher than MSRP as the default price, so be careful.

Since my local Fed Ex hub has some of the most reprehensible service and I will be spending my three days off without an SSD to build, I guess I am going to start a new modular MOC. No idea what I am going to make, but it will be something. Obviously.
Maybe a bank? A police station? Another town home? Let's see what comes out.

I need a beer...

Great move.

I loved the Death Star build. Think I managed to stretch it across a few weeks - a box or two each week, a numbered bag or so (or often less given the size of it) every day.

The minifigure assembly step in the instructions alone took about 90 mins.

Only problem now is keeping it all out of reach of my two and a half year old! (That and the modulars. The space shuttle. And now Arkham Asylum...)

The monkey and captain are in other sets (captain is in both the big fort and the pirate base). The smaller Pirate I ship with blue sails has one center hull piece while the big ship with red sails has three.

So, what are all you guys plans for 2013 LEGO purchases?

What I'm looking at at the moment is:
- the Hobbit: Unexpected journey + Escape from Mirkwood + bricklinking the other hobbits
- Star Wars: A-wing, perhaps the Millenium Falcon and X-wing (no high priorities), newly announced Jabba Sail Barge
- Minifigs: Series 9 and 10 (probably complete)
- Batman Arkham Asylum + bricklinking Gordon and Bane (from the Tumbler Chase), Spiderman Street Chase, and keeping an eye out for the new Superman sets and other superheroes sets. It's mainly for new minifigs though, generally not too impressed by the sets themselves.
- Modulars: Pet Shop, Town Hall and the newly announced Cinema (perhaps only Pet Shop this year seeing it's the next to go OOP)
- Lord of the Rings 2nd wave (black gate, wizard battle, corsair, rivendell counsil etc) and perhaps something from the new Castle sets if they complement my Lotr setup.
- New Cuusoo set (back to the future)

I've decided not to get invested in anything else Star wars related (like old Republic, episode I-III/clone wars or other Star Wars themes like the UCS (SSD and Imperial Shuttle, I''m looking at you!) or Hoth/Endor).

Also not getting the entire the Hobbit line, I've the decided to stick with Lord of the Rings only. No Galaxy squad or creator line for me. Perhaps one or two sets from the new City line, depending on how much I like them and whether the fit with my modulars. No TMNT for me, though I might bricklink the turtles themselves. Not getting the Lone Ranger stuff, though the sets look pretty nice. Perhaps getting the Horizon express though.

Other than that, I'm currently reorganising my attic to put an extra table in so I can build a more elaborate Lotr themed lego world. Gonna be bricklinking lots of parts for it.

Anyway, my wallet is already crying, but spreading the above purchases out over the course of a year should be quite doable. LEGO just needs to stop announcing any more stuff I want!

Had trouble sleeping because I had a gut feeling the fed ex guy would pull some bullshit today and I would miss him trying to deliver my SSD. Tracking still shows "delivery exception."
That schmuck better deliver today, but I am worried a couple of snow flakes will hit the air and they will be like "oh, sorry. Cannot deliver."
Every damn time...I wish I could put requests in on Amazon or LEGO.com and explicitly say "NO FEDEX!" because there is always an issue.

The direction of the cheese slopes on the top engine?

Does your FedEx delivery truck hub have an office that you can pick up your package from if you miss the driver/the driver doesn't attempt?

Back home where I lived there was one and it was open until eight at night, so if I missed the driver then I would head over there and pick it up myself... :/

Also, I sent you a pm... :)

Converted 10193 Medieval Market Village into a Modular. Way more expensive than I expected it to be. Missing some decoration I should add later, like a beer keg, vases, etc.

That is a Grand MOC Modular! Excellent work there. Love the details! •_•

So, what are all you guys plans for 2013 LEGO purchases?

From what I've seen so far..

Must buys
- horizon express
- modular cinema
- creator eagle/beaver/scorpion

Possible buys
- town hall (just to complete my set of current modulars even though I don't love it)
- A-Wing
- Y-Wing (if I buy the A -Wing I might as well get this to go with my x-wing)
- new big castle set. Looks great but I have two helms deeps so might not need it. And it might have a goof large panels to keep the cost down. As long as it at least has brick built battlements it could be tempting)
- town square. City line, but if its compatible with modular scale and gives me useful street furniture etc, I'll grab one or two just for that.
- cuusoo BttF, but it'll need to look a lot nicer than the current MOC. Too small IMO which means lack of detail, I'd buy a UCS (sorry, *expert*) delorean in a heartbeat

Extravagant buys if I feel the urge
- another pet shop, so I can have two houses side by side, and mod the pet shop to a different shop
- Death Star (unlikely though)

Possible project
- green grocer via bricklink

Backlog - already have but need to build
- helms deep x 2
- sonic boom
- highway hauler creator
- 4x4 technic crawler
- Ninjago fire temple
- Ninjago epic battle (one of the two ninjagos is a likely birthday present for my dragon loving daughter though)
- haunted house (will wait until Halloween to build)

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
Question about those "buildings" sets - I know the interiors are very well decorated, but are the floors easily separable to view them each without any trouble?

If you mean the modulars, then yes, very easy. The floors are only connected with a couple of studs, the rest are those flat bricks. So you can take of the roof, then the top floor etc.

So, what are all you guys plans for 2013 LEGO purchases?

New Star Wars:

75001 Republic Troopers vs. Sith Troopers - I like the figs and the pieces fit in well with space MOCs.

75013 Umbaran MHC (Mobile Heavy Cannon) - Lots of good pieces and cool figs.

9497 Republic Striker-class Starfighter - This is a maybe, only if cheap.

Really like the planets so will get all these;

75006 Jedi Starfigher & Planet Kamino
75007 Republic Assault Ship & Planet Coruscant
75008 TIE Bomber & Asteroid Field
75009 SnowSpeeder & Planet Hoth
75010 B-Wing Starfighter & Planet Endor
75011 Tantive IV & Planet Alderaan

Star Wars to catch-up on:

7692 Anakin Skywalker and Sebulba's Podracers
7965 Millennium Falcon
8095 General Grievous' Starfighter
7673 MagnaGuard Starfighter

Technic:

42007 Moto Cross Bike
Maybe the Unimog.

I'm skipping LOTR, Hobbit, Turtles and Lone Ranger. Need to see the Galaxy Squad to dedcide but will get some I think.

I have all Cuusoo so far and will get the BTTF regardless.

I'm in for any UCS and I dare say a fair amount on Bricklink. Got the Fire Brigade but don't see myself buying any modulars. Perhaps the Horizon Express.

If the Death Star were sub £200 I would bite.

So, what are all you guys plans for 2013 LEGO purchases?

08110 - Unimog
10225 - R2D2
10226 - Sopwith Camel
10220 - VW Camper Van
10228 - Haunted House

From the new sets, the Mobile Crane Mk II (though the news that it might not use any pneumatic elements is a bit of a downer.)

Pet Shop modular
Cinema modular

Horizon Express
All new Hobbit and LotR sets
Arkham Asylum
Probably the Sopwith Camel too

I'll probably get the cinema if it's not obscenely expensive for display, maybe one of the new Creator houses and definitely the new green Creator robot for more MOC pieces.

I think my first "serious" MOC project would be Mario Kart replicas at minifig scale. Shouldn't be difficult with the pieces I have.

There are some decent deals on Amazon Warehouse Deals right now.

SSD - $290
Tower Bridge - $180

PS: I caved on the SSD. Will abandon the Imperial Shuttle.

Hello Lego Gaffers,

When my son was young, I got him several (10 or so Star Wars Lego, most were Wal-Mart clearance) anyway that was 10 years ago and now all the Lego are in two giant bucket of toys. Back then I insisted that he keep all the instruction ... so I recently visited Lego store in Orlando (Downtown Disney) and got an urge to build these little bricks again.

What is the best way to tackle this project. All the parts are pretty much mix together in one giant piles and looking at the instruction I am about to call this project a no go. I am thinking first sort them out into colors and then goes from there by building smaller set first.

It seems I am missing one bucket somewhere because there are parts missing so that is going to make this a lot harder.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sorting like shapes is easier IMO. It is easier to find a grey or red 2x1 in a pile of 2x1 than it is to find a grey or red 2x1 in a pile of all red or all grey bricks.

So, what are all you guys plans for 2013 LEGO purchases?

Big Purchases:
Arkham Asylum
Modular Theater

I plan on collecting all of the Marvel and DC super Hero sets and maybe some of the smaller TMNT sets. Any City sets under 20$ or that match the look I'm going for may get an impulse buy to flesh out my modulars.

More importantly is what I am skipping:

Star Wars
LotR/Hobbit
Lone Ranger
Galaxy Squad
Chima

All bets are off when I see stupid deals. I will buy any set I see if it is pennies on the dollar. Luckily, it seems my local Target and Meijer have unadvertised local sales fairly often (unlike my local Kmart and Walmart!). Those sales are actually where I get the bulk of my Lego.

For 2013 i plan to buy as little as POSSIBLE lol that is as much as i can restrain myself :(

The Cinema modular, the BTTF set and any UCS that concern old trilogy SW (maybe none this year who knows) are a must, the rest is what i am afraid of...

2013 will be hell for my wallet.

I will probably buy the cinema
I will at least buy all the planet series from Star Wars, hope to refrain myself with the rest
LOTR/Hobbit...I am really getting addicted to that shit as a massive Tolkien fan. I haven't bought any of the big sets (although I got Bag End as a gift :D) and instead bricklinking the fellowship but I know I will spend if they ever come with a Balrog, Witch-King or stuff like that.
Galaxy Squad: Loving it, won't buy the big sets, but probably all the bugs
Creator: I've seen nice stuff that I'll have to buy

My wife is gonna kill me :(

For 2013 I plan on buying the following:

Big Purchases

Town Hall
Haunted House
R2D2

Medium Sets

Millennium Falcon (if I can find it for a good price)
Horizen Express

Small sets

Tanker Truck
Cement Mixer
Garbage Truck
Minecraft Set
BTTF CUSSUO

I will also complete my Bricklink Cafe Corner and Perhaps start Bricklinking Green Grocer or Market Street.

The Winter Bakery is gone. I got mine a week before it went OOS. I called a ton of stores to confirm it was gone. Still a bunch on brick link though, great set!

Congrats on getting the mother of all in print sets.

First, I don't see a PM from ya yet. Shall look forward to it.

Second, I think I can go to the hub and get the package. My issue with that is that I shouldn't have to do it. I shouldn't have to drive twenty minutes to the hub just because the driver didn't do his job. But I will be calling them to see if I can go get it from there. Should have done that yesterday. I tried to get them to hold it at a FedEx store but it would not let me.

EDIT: Called FedEx customer service yet again. The HUB with my package is closed tomorrow and Tuesday. So the earliest I could get it is Wednesday. There is no way around it. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have had in years. Just getting mad all over again about it.

So, what are all you guys plans for 2013 LEGO purchases?

It will be significantly less painful than 2012, I can tell you that. 2012 was the year of catching up. As for this 2013:

Galaxy Squad
Many Creator sets (houses. eagles)
Horizon Express
Arkham Asylum
Palace Cinema (the only major set I will be getting on day one)
UCS B-Wing
A few TMNT sets
LOTR stuff

That is all I know about so far. It depends on how many awesome things they announce for later.

Any of you guys worried about finances for 2013?

Unless you all have huge incomes, this hobby will be or already is quite the strain on the household budget :( I am already taking precautions like leaving things aside that i'd normally buy for myself just so i can have a little more money on the side for certain sets later on LOL.

If you told me like 2 months ago that by now i'd be collecting Lego sets all over the place i'd have laughed in your face but now ... i'm scared ;)

I am worried. I just look at how much discretionary income I have each month and plan from there. Some things I have to save up for.
I just dont buy or play any video games anymore, so that opens up a huge amount of money. I also am very picky about buying movies now, so I am more frugal with that. I never travel. I eat cheap and make more stuff at home than I eat out. All those things help contribute to my toy fund.

Sigh... i guess i just have to get used to the idea of cutting back on my other hobbies if i want to keep this up, less gaming, less movies/series... can't keep it all up.

Money is not an issue so I don't worry about it. I worry more about the time I have to dedicate to each of my hobbies. Storage is also an issue for Lego. I don't like crap strewn all over my home. Everything has it's place, including my Lego!

So where and how DO you guys store all your empty boxes? I mean at first it's ok but over the years i imagine you kinda accumulate a crapton of these...

Gave up a few months back and used them for shipping. They take up too much space and aren't really nice anyways. If Lego wnet back to their old cellophane, flip top boxes that had some style and flair, it would be a different story.

Back from vacation with a year-end haul:

Qihqr.jpg

Tried to use the dot-codes on the CMF bags - let's see how I did...

I don't much care for Clone Wars stuff, but goddamn, does that mech look nice and customizable to boot.

I break down all my boxes and have them behind the bookcase and under the bed in our second bedroom. And that is full now. I still need to break down the boxes from my December haul.

I tend to buy a lot of LEGO. Shocking, I know. However, for 2013 I'm planning on cutting back a bit, if only because I cannot keep pace with my purchase rate.

So here's my plan:

Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
Hobbit
The Lone Ranger
Galaxy Squad
Creator Houses
Palace Cinema
Winter Village 2013 set
CMF 9, 10 & 11
Marvel Super Heroes
60026 Town Square
...plus whatever surprises may come along.

Still is quite a bit, but is a significant reduction from what I picked up in 2012. If I decide to cut back further, then Marvel, Lone Ranger, and Hobbit will be the ones to go (in that order).
