I also like how there was a specific death animation for it in Reach too. where the Spartan would stumble backwards and fall if you killed them with the Plasma Grenades's impact. Is that still in 4?

I'm at work, but it was in one of the recent Halo 4 Mythbusters eps. They did it with a Plasma nade though which kind of ruined the charm of the nade fucking the guy up and bouncing right off.

This is the scene I was talking about, he just shot and he wasnt harmed by the damage at all.

Its still there, its have to be a low impact damage, your spartan just throw his weapon and just faint on his knees.

You realize how fast a Spartan could throw a rock? Is that speed fast enough to penetrate the shield of another Spartan? Someone do the math.

I'm going to add a bit on to my whole Crysis Universal AA idea (which in turn was inspired by Halo: Shield and Sword, which is hosted on HBO for those interested).

To summarize: you get two Armor Abilities - passive and aggressive. Passive are Sonar (Default), Motion Tracker, Flashlight, VISR Mode, and Night Vision (Reach-style). Aggressive include Jump Jet (Double Jump), buffed Thruster, Hologram, Sprint (Default), Jackal Shield (nerfed Hardlight Shield that takes a full second to activate so no whip-outs like Armor Lock or HLS, third-person, and must be controlled in place of your weapon), Regeneration Field with reduced area-of-effect, and buffed Auto Turret.

Hitting left or right on the DPad cycles through passive, up and down does aggressive. All of these abilities rely on a single "Armor Energy" meter which can withstand up to 5 Armor Ability uses, or 30 full seconds of a passive ability. This meter does not recharge and requires an AA Node pickup; Nodes are placed on maps according to the size of one team (so a BTB map would have 6-8) in completely neutral locations.

Sonar is basically CoD radar that only detects shooting. It and Sprint have unlimited usages which don't affect your AA battery, but Sprint does require a recharge period like in Halo 4. In addition to this, your abilities actually cannot be used in tandem - passive abilities are simply static modifications that integrate into your HUD, while aggressive ones all only require a single button press. An exception is Jump Jet which, being a double jump, is triggered with the jump button. The Jackal Shield actually has a mandatory sustain period of 5 seconds, meaning that it has to be used specifically rather than as a Swiss army shield. Activating an AA, even Sprint, will make your passive ability fade out over the course of about a quarter of a second, even if it's Sonar.

Sort of related is the modification to the Binary Rifle in my sandbox write-up. It's now a 2-shot kill like the other rifles. Unscoped, the round will also induce heavy horizontal and vertical slowdown on the target, even vehicles, making it a potential recon vehicle/Mantis counter. Scoped in, the slowdown effect is nonexistent and still requires 2 shots (or one headshot), but a direct hit will punch both your Armor Abilities back to their default Sonar/Sprint states (ultimately canceling out something like autoturret and potentially screwing over people making life-or-death double jumps) and take out 15 seconds of your entire AA meter's charge. If you survive the second hit somehow, that's your entire AA usages gone. Laser sight remains intact both scoped and unscoped.

Oh god, did anybody see the Qualcomm Keynote from CES? Glooorious. :lol

Mostly intentional but what a fucked up presentation.

Maroon 5 on stage and are dubbed by a Dido song

CE Magnum. Outside of CE, DMR (the zero bloom Reach iteration).

Halo CE

Damnation 2v2. Truth & Reconciliation by about a million miles.

Wut is Halo 3.

Firefight. Yet to play Spartan Ops, but I loved the customisation options available in Reach Firefight and I'm sadly aware that such options have been removed in SpOps. :/

Is anyone else getting kind of jealous watching all these CoD fans getting excited about their map pack?

I watched the trailer and I really hate Call of Duty, but god that looks fun. There's a map where water floods an area every few minutes. Another where a lift goes through and kills any in it's way (pretty much like the train in Terminal). A new Zombie map and there's 4 MP maps, along with a new game mode.

The video was also commentary of the developers talking about it and giving insights, much better than the short montage we got with the 'meh' maps.

We're going to give you more control. You're going to freak out for a minute. Then you're going to give us great feedback and we're going to make stuff better.

But, yes, it will be like reading an Elder Scroll. Just before you receive the divine wisdom you so desire -- just as you are about to grasp hold of the meaning of it all -- you will be driven mad, and then you will be blinded.

By the awesome.

Treyarch knows what their fans love.
Infinity Ward is like 343i of the CoD series.

Chiming in about radar...

Personally I love radar and it's a major factor to why I never play MLG for example. To me radar promotes a choice about stealth or show yourself to the enemy(s). Looking at latency online and radar is an excellent mechanic to "even the playing field" e.g. that split second before an enemy is on you a higher latency player has a little time to become aware of things. Without that awareness buffer literally the lower latency player has 1-2 shots on a higher latency player and the battle is over before it began. This was very evident in Halo 3 especially without hitscan BR.

I do agree situational awareness is the best skill to have over relying on radar. I also understand for MLG the team communication aspect is probably more valuable to promote teamwork over individual radar benefits.

However when you look at MLG there is never any crouching stealth gameplay. Looking at objective even now in 343i CTF with waypoint after pickup stealth and timing are still very important in the default game. You sneak to the base, wait for the enemy(s) to clear out or pick off one/two campers then take the flag to maximise your run back home or to the safety of your team mates.

In terms of default matchmaking this is an excellent mechanic because you can do this alone and it leads into teamwork when looking at objective gametypes. When you factor in latency for online gaming, JiP, no mics, quitters, random matchmaking and a lack of overall teamwork when you play with 1-3 friends and not a full party the radar is an obvious benefit and required game mechanic if you ask me.

For MLG if you're going in as slayer I understand why you want no radar but again that is not what I enjoy. Perhaps MLG should trial with radar as this is a major difference between the default game and the MLG settings?

Further radar allows you to do things like crouch fire from cover so only the enemy you're attacking sees you and you can get that time to then attack another enemy with full shields or before they communicate (if they even do). Radar provides more tactical options for me.

It's like all the old maps with interactivity have moved from older Halo games to new COD games...Nooooooo.

I've been posting for years about MP maps should have more interactive elements. I'd love to see forerunner/UNSC maps where the pieces move like cogs and certain pathways are close/open as those pieces move through the game. They would cycle continuously for the most part but some key paths would be switch based. This would lead to some insane attack/defence moments in slayer or objective.

Sitting in the dentist's office, waiting for my wife, I see a trailer for Zero Dark Thirty and the music is a choir singing Nothing Else Matters.

Halo reminds me of Nintendo and its franchises.. Fans are stuck living in the past of greatness, craving for that potential to finally be met. I don't understand how some of the greatest games can be so poorly managed ;[

Bungie MS sign-in is offline...Urk posted tomorrow, this week, definitely this month...Waypoint MS sign-in still live.

My guess is that Bungie.next is loading right now and we're getting it today or tomorrow or Friday (Aussies are a day ahead).

Are they ever going to be able to change out from the old MS system without compromising everyone's account that's tied to their Live credentials?

They'll probably be side-by-side. Rockband.com has both PS3 and 360 sign in, and it just uses Passport for Xbox players and whatever system Sony has for PS3 players.

Also, it finally happened to me. My 360 just corrupted all of my OXbox content. It even went a step further and corrupted my GonD copy of Halo 1 Originals :lol

I think they'll provide more support with Bungie.next. After all if they are going PS3 and other cross platforms then they have to provide more than just MS sign in options.

For now Destiny is 360 first so MS sign in only for now. I think this will last for 12 months or so before the PS3 version releases, if the leaked court documents are accurate still. After that we will see more sign in options for other platforms or a new B.net sign in with configurable platform/GT options.

Why isn't there a decent hardcover edition of A Game of Thrones or any of the subsequent books? This is annoying.

There was a really nice looking, limited set that were hardbound. A cursory glance implies they've long since sold out.

Excited for Bungie murmurings, need to see what they've been up to. Need to see my Destiny.

Bungies new website will be awesome, so will their new game.

The website will most assuredly be well created and have a lot of game derived information. That is one area that they still dominate all other companies.

I'm hesitant to give their next game the rubber stamp. Reach shook my confidence quite a bit.
