Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

CCs/Personal Ordnance Savior Tashi, I'd recommend having authors that are using Initial Ordnance resupplies switch over to just placing the weapons on the map unless the resupply time is really long (default ammo rockets at 3 minutes would probably be fine). You don't get the waypoint for newer players/general awareness but the Initial Ordnance resupplies come every X minutes regardless of whether or not the weapon is still in play, while placed weapons won't respawn until the weapon in question is empty and dropped. That Despair game where we were split up is a good example of how this can escalate into a sniperfest as they just keep spawning in over and over again, especially once Ammo is thrown into the mix.

And Tashi, that CTF Simplex issue I had was my own fault, not the map's. I watched the film and I was about a foot away from the flag stand.

Those CTF settings are a lot of fun on those maps. That sort of fast paced game is where I think the waypoint works well since it's basically the pace of MLG games where everyone would be visible anyway because of juggling. I don't know that I want it to stay on the default maps though since they're so much larger.

Thank you for the feedback.

I never got into Firefight, but I think it had its place. Spartan Ops looks to scratch a different itch. I wish it had more situations that necessitated cooperation. Portal 2's co-op campaign is a good example of a separate narrative that absolutely required two players.

You know if they just would have left campaign scoring + skulls + matchmaking in place the "itch" that they're scratching with Spartan Ops would already be scratched. And then they could have firefight.

Scythe isn't bad at all, actually better than a good number of stock maps. It works well for 4v4 and I bet it would make a good doubles map.

Simplex is a good map but it has a horrible framerate. The game I played was nearly unplayable.

I know we're just getting rolling with the Forge playlist, and we're reading all the feedback/etc... but just curious. Are there other "small" 4v4 maps out there you wish could have made it in this round? If so, which ones? What about doubles?

Edit: Intercession eh?

Hmmm. I'll need to run some tests.

So, it turns out Waypoint has mission thumbnails for the rest of the SpOps season, and you can see them pretty easily by messing with URLs, meaning you can see which levels are going to be used in which missions. You can go find it yourself, but it turns out we're going back to
____Harvester___
exactly
____one____
more times.

Eisode 6 of SpOps was goood.

New environments make a huge difference and seem better suited for this kind of play this time around. The enemy composition also kept things interesting, and some of the encounters worked much better due to the environmental layout.

Best part is that something I've wanted to see, but didn't expect to, made an appearance even if only briefly:
in-game cut-scenes showcasing player spartans
.

Other assorted goodness:

Banshees to fly, Promethean Knights attacking en masse in an open area and teleporting to the flanks and behind, starting a level with no loadouts, lots of ghosts and fewer fuel rods, Vortex (yeah, that's a good thing, Vortex is perfect for SpOps), sleeping grunts to knife, watching Covenant battlements being dropped and set up, and areas where the Grav Hammer and Energy Sword showed dominance.

This was just our run-through on Heroic, but we're definitely going to tackle these soon on Legendary, and the way the missions are laid out give some interesting opportunities for certain AAs and perks.

I like it. More please :)

I will tell Ellis of the non stop slurp.
Haha, feel free.

We could still use some bonus for making it through without dying, and some more interesting challenges (watcher assassinations, maintaining stealth, sword kills, sticky kills, splatters, vehicle jacking, etc.) though. Just sayin'

Good work though. New environments, and large ones bring out that sense of exploration for a time, not knowing whats around the next bend.

This shows up in other missions, it's just tricky. For example, Shootout in Valhalla will show them. To the point that when people were grinding on that particular mission, everbody would be teabagging where a particular Mantis would drop just to get in the scene :lol

I also pulled it off once or twice in Chapter 1, Episode 5 - The Cauldron by standing on the Pelican and hopping off as someone hit the button. Cue my Spartan flying right in front of the camera and to his death.

I played the new playlist a little today. It's one of the better playlists in the game. Maps are better than most stock maps.

Gameplay is still H4's gameplay and most of y'all know how I feel about that.

My one complaint is either have static drops or ordinance, don't have both. Too many power weapons.

Spartan Ops is still terrible, but on the design side it's made some improvements.

+ Distinct reduction in the number of "egghead" comments.
+ New environments.
+ Default Legendary difficulty.
+ Vastly better respawn in "camp" situations after TPK.
+ Fewer Promethean fights. The ones that are there are better organized.

- Dialog is still terrible.
- Still a huge problem with the players. Notably griefing vehicles and AFK leeching.
- The Harvester doesn't look like it's Covenant at all. Did they just throw out the entire design aesthetic? It looks like a Flood vehicle inside and out. Wouldn't surprise me if it was a Flood vehicle they recycled from early concepting. It didn't surprise me that it's jsut given a name and you walk up to it with no explanation (they did the same thing with the Lich). Does that thing even have lore created for it yet? I suppose that no one cares anymore though.
- People complained about Fuel Rod spam? Ok, now this half of the season is Needler spam!
- The drop in plot quality in the new CGI cutscene gave me an "uh oh" feeling. Why do I get the distinct impression they are now setting up Halsey to get transferred into the Domain? What was with the laughable explosive vest scene?
- Enemies are still completely brain dead and fights are not fun. It's a spamfest.

I'll take needles and carbines over fuel rod spam any day. Also makes being aggressive in vehicles like the Ghost more worthwhile.

AI is a tricky one, because choosing the right environment makes all the difference to how encounters shake down and how aggressive and smart the enemy seems. Open areas w/ a mix of vertical spaces for jackals, medium to enclosed spaces for Elites (like Composer), and branching areas for Prometheans so they aren't just teleporting 50 feet forward or backward and it not making a difference.

There was a lot more attacking from multiple angles and multiple elevations in these episodes, and there was also more ways to tackle each area - turrets, vehicles, more weapon and ammo crates. That kept the pacing up and had us on our toes looking for opportunities to change things up, or put our AAs and perks to the best use.

They're learning. Its actually crazy to see a work in progress like this, as the weeks go by.

Yup. That thing looked batshit.

I agree. I recall only one fuel rod spam situation in the first mission. Which was good as it can be rage inducing to face a wall of fuel rods.

Anybody have direct links to the file-shares for all the maps in the Community Forge pot?

I don't want to have to play each one first to download them from my temp history, since everybody keeps voting for freaking SWAT.

You can't link to file shares because those aren't online.

What are those blue rocket things with pink contrails being shot from the forerunner turret in the first week 6 SpOps mission? They look really out of place.

Search 'The Little Moa' on the file browser in a minute, I'll have them all up.

EDIT: Just to note MLG Simplex v2 & Lockout v1 are just Simplex & Shutout - saving them and putting them on your file share gives them that name :/

NVM, I figured it out
