Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
Cry some more.

If this was the beloved Firefight every wants back, you would only being playing on parts cut out from the campaign, with NO changes at all, and no other new areas that 343 has provided.

but, that would be fun to replay.

i like spops, but limited lives and scoring would do wonders....

I just finished the campaign on Legendary, didn't get any of the achievements or the Legendary ending. Checked my commendations, says I finished everything on Legendary. I have chief's armor as well. Went through all of it while connected to Live.

What do I do?

lol I'm sorry man.. You just can't catch a damn break can you?

The trials and tribulations of a Halo fan.

Whats so bad about that?

Spartan Ops will never stop receiving harsh feedback because Firefight was removed and they promoted the shit out of Spartan Ops in place of FF.

Campaign challenges weren't as hard as I had figured they would be going in, though the turret defense sequence was obnoxious. Turns out Knights are as easy to assassinate as ODST Hammer Chieftains were - rush towards their right hand, they melee with the left and you turn around for the backsmack. Only becomes moderately difficult when Battlewagons show up. Play with someone else for extra distractions.

If you haven't yet, go check out the moon right now. Jupiter is lit up beautifully next to it. I took this shitty pic but you get the idea.

It becomes hilarious on LASO co-op when you have people going Double Dragon on their Promethean asses by getting easy backsmacks, especially on Midnight.

Also: I fixed up my 8-bit remix of Nemesis! The other one got lost during delicious meltdowns and it was pretty sucky, but this one got rearranged a bit for the better.

That's what that is? I saw it during my trip to the gym and thought it was oddly lit-up (there's not a cloud in the sky tonight so the moon's giving off this bizarre lens flare/halo). Had no idea it was Jupiter of all things.

I understand that it's supposed to tie in to the campaign and such, but after a new environment that was actually pretty interesting and tied in somewhat to the cutscene, going back to a previous art asset was disappointing. At least it wasn't one that was used in the first half of the season I suppose.

I liked it. More maps should have a night time variant, IMO.

I don't mind that it's at night time, that's actually cool atmosphere. The problem was I knew exactly how the mission was going to play out before I played it. They even make you play through it similarly to the campaign mission for the first half of it.

Fuck off.

Is it my fault that it got hyped up so much and was such a big let down first half of the season? And then S1.5 gets hyped again, we're told new environments, encounter design, etc. and it's just more of the same, with a few new playspaces mixed in with reused campaign assets.

but, that would be fun to replay.

This is also true.

could spartan ops possibly be less inspired? I'm surprised we don't have a lava level and sewer level and escort mission

do you have to jump on pieces of rock to get across rivers of lava? and or do the pieces of rock sink into the lava if you stand on them for too long?

Mission 4 is on Vortex. I just had an objective that required me to stand still so they could do some shit with my suit's sensors.

So I haven't played Halo 4 properly for a Month except for when I mongoose and I was excited to hear about the Forge Playlist. I loved Reach's Forge Playlist and played that non stop for the month it was out and got my hopes up for this Playlist. Sad to say but I'm kind of disappointed.

The maps really lack character and general aesthetics and seem to use very little of the natural terrain of the maps which can aid in breaking up the constant bombardment of forge pieces and general forge colours. One map, which name escapes me, was basically a square, that felt like it wouldn't support a 2 v 2 let alone a 4 v 4.

They seem to be missing the ball with every swing they take.

Also Spartan Ops was OK but I can see those environments making return after return in future episodes.

I really do feel like Halo 4 should have waited until next gen and been a launch day title. More room for what they missed and more time to build Spartan Ops into what they envisioned.

Even with what little they've done with it, I feel like Spartan Ops took time away from what they could've been doing with Multiplayer and Campaign. Honestly it sounds good on paper and could've worked out just fine if handled differently, but when executed like this it just seems so pointless. It hasn't really advanced the "plot" of what happened after the Campaign in any way.

Did another comparison again of missions. I love how different they look with just a few effects.
Where is the day side of the 2nd screenshot from?

I've got a wife and a dog and a family!

Ill be off in 2.5 hours for Dong Times.

I cant, gf duties.

I mean I wanted to just come home from work, chill out, drink a few beers and grind the shit out of Diablo III. But no. How do you tell your GF you just want to game? Its like impossible.

Relay is a pile of dog shit. I cant even stand to look at it so damn white. I feel like I am shooting a crossed a ocean only to have the guy hide when he is one shot. I am scoped non stop until someone with camo sneaks up on me. I can do with out that map.

I wish people from HaloGAF played D3. Me n Neoism tear that game up! Everyone that gets it I'll give a ton of sweet gear too!
I have it. Played it a ton in May when it came out but lost interest. Think I got to level 42 or something. I want to get to 60 eventually. Only had one IRL friend to play it with.

Yes, just with marginally better mission design and new locations. The convoluted story, horrible dialogue, and all of our other favorite things about Spartan Ops are still there.

Wut.

Locations and general mission designs are 100x better than what we got in the first half of the season. Story feels better connected than before and the dialogue really isn't that bad - Not once did I hear an egghead mention. Yes the whole "that's UNSC gear" comment was pretty moronic, but far from horrible.

Fundamentally, are you just pressing buttons like before? Yes. But there seems to be a lot more variety and ways of going about reaching those... buttons. It's a big step up.

OK, I might be crazy, but wouldn't the inside section of
The Harvester
have made a pretty sweet multiplayer map? Maybe 2v2 since it's somewhat small.

I never got into Firefight, but I think it had its place. Spartan Ops looks to scratch a different itch. I wish it had more situations that necessitated cooperation. Portal 2's co-op campaign is a good example of a separate narrative that absolutely required two players.

I've probably got 100 more kills than deaths with the boltshot but that doesn't mean it isn't a weapon you should get at spawn.

It's basically an insta-kill weapon at close range and I know I'm just adding to the misery by using it, but unless you are playing btb with vehicles, it's the only useful secondary weapon.

Sure out of all the deaths, boltshot ranks low for what killed me, but each time I die from it, I shake my head at the thought someone believed a mini-shotgun should be given on spawn.

With the DMR/boltshot you can effectively stop almost any player from any distance. With dexterity, boltshot is ridiculous for double kills on close maps like haven.

It shouldn't be nerfed at all. It works great like it's supposed to, but it shouldn't be a weapon you start with but one you pick up.

Just think about that statement for a second. 100x better? You don't think that's a bit exaggerated? You said it yourself; the fundamentals are the same. You are still collecting tags, pressing buttons, backtracking, defending areas, I mean what really did they change to make it so much better?

Now that's not to say I don't think it is an improvement. it is. But nowhere near the level you are claiming.

CCs/Personal Ordnance Savior Tashi, I'd recommend having authors that are using Initial Ordnance resupplies switch over to just placing the weapons on the map unless the resupply time is really long (default ammo rockets at 3 minutes would probably be fine). You don't get the waypoint for newer players/general awareness but the Initial Ordnance resupplies come every X minutes regardless of whether or not the weapon is still in play, while placed weapons won't respawn until the weapon in question is empty and dropped. That Despair game where we were split up is a good example of how this can escalate into a sniperfest as they just keep spawning in over and over again, especially once Ammo is thrown into the mix.

And Tashi, that CTF Simplex issue I had was my own fault, not the map's. I watched the film and I was about a foot away from the flag stand.

Those CTF settings are a lot of fun on those maps. That sort of fast paced game is where I think the waypoint works well since it's basically the pace of MLG games where everyone would be visible anyway because of juggling. I don't know that I want it to stay on the default maps though since they're so much larger.
