Me: ''I'll wait till the GTX 680 drop the price a bit, maybe when a new gen will come''
Papersleeves: ''Nah, you'd be better buying THE new gen.''

At 900$?! No fucking way, I'm still aiming at the GTX 680 at this point...When can we expect the 700 series?

Not blaming you or anything, just saying blaming AMD isn't going to lower the price of this card.
I don't remember saying that, but okay.
and pixie dust plus the secret sauce.
I think Microsoft and Sony have lifelong patents on both of these though.

Oh wait. Those AMD execs that stole info and brought it to NVIDIA. Maybe it WAS the pixie dust and secret sauce which they stole from the Durango files. This explains everything.

This isn't a successor to the 680, it's something different.

and pixie dust plus the secret sauce.

We need to not confuse these technical terms.

Secret Sauce is a hardware based through-way used to transform the data of a middle of the road graphics card and output it at the rendering capacity of a high end graphics card.

Pixie dust (or "faerie dust" as it is known by those in the industry) is software based solution used to optimize the performance of graphics cards and make them perform 300%® better than their PC equivalent.

The Durango uses both an equal amount of secret sauce and pixie dust.

The Orbis meanwhile has gone all in on pixie dust.

The current debate is whether or not secret sauce's rendering procedures bottleneck the application of pixie dust.

Excuse my ignorance, but isn't GTX 680 4gb sli better than one GTX 690? The 690 is sli setup so it's technically 2gb each? Or did I understand that wrong? For the same price of a 690 you can sli a 680 4gb.

The 680's clock speed will become a bottleneck before the 4 GB of VRAM comes into play.

I wonder if you can Tri-SLI the Titan...$2700 on the GPU array alone.

Have to admit I'm not the most clued up on graphics cards so I could be missing something here, but if this is 85% performance of a 690, could you not possibly get nearly as much performance for less cost by waiting for a 780? Looking at these 590 vs 680 benchmarks, the 590 is the faster card but in most tests it's pretty close, so if it's repeated with 690 vs 780, ~85% of the 690 should be roughly comparable to a 780, no?

lol wat, where do you live? 3 gigabyte 680's here ( Sweden ) costs ~2000 USD.

I can get 3 triple fan Gigabyte 680's for about 1400USD. I'm going for the MSI Lightning 680 which is 500USD so that would be 1500 if I were to get 3.

4-way Titan SLI: US $3596

LED lights: US$ 6.99

The look on the faces of the other guys at the LAN party when they see my Über rig: Priceless

I was a little annoyed at first because I just bought a 670, but after I saw that price any buyer's remorse I had melted right off.

I'd laugh at anyone with a 4 way SLI rig, regardless of which cards it uses. 3 extra frames of input lag is not my idea of a good time.

That just means fraps recognizes the input of the screenshot button 3 measly frames later. Dennis can stand still at a zen-like fashion for hours.

But I need two GPUs to upgrade my SLI rig.....

Lets see.....two times $899.......hmmm.......1798 US dollars!!

Thanks, Obama

yes, this is worth it. come on give in.

I will never get the lure of enthusiast parts, but hey, whatever keeps the companies in business.

well, I am enthusiastic about it.

quad sli for crysis 3 dx 11 at 240 fps 3d on 3 1440p screens mi rite?

yes, jelly?

Awesome a 900 dollar piece of hardware that has no real purpose...

it plays video games at an awesome resolution with all eye candy to teh max and beyond. that's it's purpose.

$900 o_O Are you fucking kidding me? Interest gone. Clearly this being marketed to the folks buying 2 680's for their gaming rigs.

yeah.... like me. ;b

Time to ditch my 2 x 680s 4GB for two of these.

damn and I got my 4gb 680s at christmas too. D'OH!!

Please tell me what possible use this could have in gaming in the next say 5 years? Much less 2 of them?

alright I see you're confused.

I know right. I only have 2x 580s in my machine, but playing BF3 on a 120hz monitor at 120 fps, all Ultra settings, is a sight to behold.

Bulletstorm in 3d is impressive as well.

Go big or go console.

*thumbs up*

yeah, just overclock the 680 and it shouldn't be that much of a bottleneck. damn, do I really need this but I want to do 3D and maybe Oculus in the future. (have to figure out where to fit a 120Hz monitor)

Not totally accurate, as the frame time would also be drastically reduced. But I get what you're saying. This is a portion of why going above 2 cards is silly (outside of hacking passwords and running synthetic benches, ofc).

Not for Dennis, he'd just invest the performance into more IQ :p

But yeah, 3 or more GPUs just isn't a good idea for gaming, with either vendor. Personally, I think even 2 isn't worth it.

Isn't quad scaling also pretty shite with Nvidia these days?

Yes. It's atrocious. It's purely for e-peen. But e-peen is so, so, tempting. Hardware pr0n...it's awesome. Seriously though, most devs (i.e. the people that make the games that play on these things) don't test past 2-way card setups. I almost cried when I was sending twitter messages to one of the devs on BF3 and he said DICE did not have a 4-way setup in house. This is DICE...the maker of the #1 PC hardware pushing game in recent history. AKA NO ONE CARES about the 2-3% of folks that go cray with hardware - it's all up to nvidia...and they know we're nuts no matter what!

Figures. I honestly based the comment of something you said months back, remember you weren't exactly blown away by the scaling.

Yeah, but when do we get to see pics of 4-way Titans in your case?

I'll definitely be doing it if it works out timing-wise. I've been blowing my cash on dating recently, lol. Arguable a worse hobby - the returns aren't 80% on the hardware. ;)

Expensive but not unreasonable! 80%+ GTX690 performance, what the heck are you guys complaining about?

I was waiting for this, held off the 6xx series for it. Would be on board at 599. 899 may be a bit too steep though. In that case I'll look at what 7xx has to offer.

It's this logic that made everyone bitch about GK104 since they wanted GK110. People will complain no matter what. I'm with you - if performance improves by x%, I am willing to pay an approximate amount more...nevermind that the $899 part is the EXTREME/PREMIUM part - not everyone needs a GTX 680-equivalent. Wait for the GTX 670/660 Ti equivalent and reap the savings benefits - or, better yet, buy our "old" GTX 690s and 680s and really save!

So we should assume the GTX 780 won't sniff the Titan's performance?Seriously, because it ain't hard to look up GTS 250 benchmarks, is it?
I would guess 780 would be a touch above the 680, say 30% or so. It is doubtful that it would outperform it as it would still be a Kepler GPU but without the crazy additions Titan is meant to have. That said it will probably be $200-300 cheaper too and the gap in performance won't be as great depending on what you do. (stuff like the much larger bandwidth matter more when doing 1600p across 2 monitors etc)

As someone who typically buys and looks forward to AMD cards, I can only hope they do indeed come out with something amazing. Not just for the sake of keeping prices in the industry low.

I do want something better than my HD 6870 someday. And I don't want to worry with Crossfire. Someday, I might invest in something crazy like an HD 9990. Something about that rubs me the right way, perhaps the fact that is reminds me of around max HP in a jRPG.

They should make an amazing HD 9999. Therefor I can buy it can make jokes all of the time about how my computer has 9999 HP... I mean HD. See, I'm already having fun.

People going hungry in the streets and people tossing money around like It's going out of style. Yeah, I'd sooner drop $900 in a charity than spend it on a gpu which will last a year and a half max.

If you spend any extra money on a hobby instead of charity, does that make you a hypocrite?

Looks like it's targeted at the high-end premium market. The price is shocking to mass-market low-end consumers (almost everyone) but pretty standard for the demographic that they're targeting. It's way out of my price range and I'm not really a hardcore PC gamer; but I can see PC gaming enthusiasts getting excited by this and buying one.

lol 5GB or 6GB for a single GPU is so ridiculous outside of using it for a realtime GPU render engine.

So if I buy two 6GB VRAM Titans I will have more VRAM than most people have regular RAM in their PCs let alone the next gen consoles.

This appeals to me.

fixed

since your getting two can i take one of your 680 gtx off your hands?

I wish I get could parts for $899. Gaming is cheap.
