VGleaks: Orbis Unveiled! [Updated]

It's a new IP for definite. I don't want to say more than that because we're only a few months away and it'll be much more impressive to have a full reveal. It'd be unfair to GG, and this is going to be a really huge event for them. Plus I know very little, and it's no point putting it out there. It' be more detrimental than anything else. I can tell you it's not like Killzone.

I can spill the following comfortably though since I think this developer is a bit of a joke, and I think people are beginning to suspect this anyway. Versus XIII will have another unveiling later this year regarding development for the next generation. It won't have the "Versus XIII" part in the title. It will definitely release in 2014. You can have my account deleted if this information turns out to be inaccurate. News is fresh on this and I'm really confident about it. FF15 and FF16 are underway, both next generation projects. There's a chance FF15, in particular, may be an exclusive release. Kind of. And with that, I'm off to sleep.

Gaf explodes.

megatonnes all up in dis post

I generally agree with you, but only due to sheer brute force with newer PCs. Don't just think of the simple closed box, but if this is really a SoC design they pull get big advantages with latency when the CPU hands stuff off to the GPU or CUs.
Yes and sacrifice computing power with 8 Jaguar cores, a downclocked GPU and RAM size constraints. We don't even know if the PS4 will launch in 2013 and the brute force as you say it in the PC world is already exceeding the PS4 in every way. There is no magic left to keep up just the sad fact that this time console technology will be obsolete even sooner than last time.

That is exactly what I said. Because developers are coding for specific specs they can get more out of a 'closed coding environment' which isn't possible on PC. PC tech will always be ahead of console tech, but you'll still see games appearing next gen like Star Wars 1313 that require the latest PC parts to run at the same fidelity as you get on a next gen console.

I only meant your part about the "in a few years" - that should in theory not happen at least not so strongly like it did in this generation. PC like hardware combined with the effort some developers have should result in great software within launch. After that I fear we will see some stagnation and games won't get technologically more advanced with each iteration. At the start of the PS3 a lot of developers used the easy brute force way and it took some time until they realized that the have to fully utilize Cell to balance the RSX drawbacks. With the PS4 the you have a "standard" GPU, a standard 8 thread CPU and a decent amount of fast memory something a developer should be familiar.

How many games will use 8gb? how many use that effectively now?
How many multi games added extra content in PS3 to take advantage of the bigger size of the BluRay vs DVD this gen? Very little, almost zero. Basically they did minor things like uncompressed audio.
I think it will be the same. Just some few will do it, instead most of them will aim for parity instead.

So no hint of BC in the leaks but can we still hold out hope that it could still be included in the PS4?
Nobody can stop you from hoping. My opinion is that PS3 BC seems unlikely.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Sony didn't build up PSN and PS+ to shun PS4 gamers. With all the content on PSN they would be crazy not to include BC. With all the content people have purchased it would be suicide not to have BC of some sort. If it isn't there I will be pissed since my PS3 won't last me forever and I didn't pay for content to lose it at a later date when my PS3 eventually bites the dust. BC is a must.

PS+ is just one huge reason. There won't be PS4 content out of the gates and in order to make it a value to people purchasing a PS console for the first time - you have to offer BC to get access to everything on PSN. Think of how much shit is on PSN. Honestly - just stop and think of how much content is available on PSN and think of how much money Sony can make from first time PS owners looking to dive into a back-catalog of DD content.

It would be incredibly stupid not to offer BC.

Now - whether or not that is hardware BC, who knows. Sony's purchasing of Gaikai could be the answer to BC. All PSN content purchased is linked to your PSNID. You would be able to instantly access content via the cloud and play there. Possibly even storing saves locally. I'm almost 100% positive we will see BC. There's too much money in PSN to NOT include some form of BC for PS4 users.

This is a 2 months old post by aegies:

The next Xbox and PlayStation are not "GPU-centric." There are pretty significant things happening with their processor architectures. And at least for Durango, it's not using off the shelf kit, contrary to what many GAF posters have insisted. Even more troublesome for the Wii U, they have much more dedicated GPGPU capabilities which aren't happening on the dedicated GPUs they're packing.
I don't think Orbis will be the only console with CUs devoted to GPGPU.

Nobody can stop you from hoping. My opinion is that PS3 BC seems unlikely.
The closer we get to a reveal, I too feel like there won't be BC. The only thing I don't understand is how does Sony throw away all that PS3 content for a PS4 user. Surely they would see the benefits of having BC in the PS4.

If Versus is next gen...then it better be a launch game...but there is no way it is going to be next gen...It will sell far more with the current PS3 userbase than it will, at least initially on next gen systems...

VXIII makes sense, was pretty much exactly what I thought would happen (new name+next gen).

Exclusivity on next FFs is interesting, guess its going back to Playstation? If its next gen then its not WiiU and I don't see it going to MS because of Japan.

Both systems look to be pretty amazing with Microsoft and Sony having slightly different goals.

But I just have a feeling Microsoft are going to make those 8GB RAM count for something. It may or may not translate into better graphics but looking back at what happened with Kinect (true potential not realized do to the 360's USB bandwidth limitation and Kinect using system resources), Microsoft might be future proofing the Durango to meet their future goals or upcoming ideas like Project Fortaleza whose original documents were leaked http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/16/3...k-rumor?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter - They might introduce that a few years down the line (without any performace hits as they have already prepared for this) to act as another Kinect to help boost/drive sales.

As far as Sony don't be fooled. They will not (and cannot) stand idle while Microsoft creates another hype machine with another peripheral that makes the masses go "Holy shit! That's fucking cool!!". Don't be surprised (or mad) that the split in GPU's Compute Units (4CU"s) are to support their own expansive agenda.

Can we see some Durango, Microsoft? This system is supposed to launch before Orbis and now we're seeing a blackout?

Hardware revisions underway maybe? Something is up.

Watch Durango reappear soon with 6gigs DDR5.

Durango has special sauce. I've heard nothing about Durango being any sort of a compute monster. Microsoft's machine is designed around efficiency, profit, and bang for the size. It is pretty obvious what is going on with Orbis. 4 CU's for compute is fucking amazeballs.

The current specs, on paper, show that Durango is weaker overall. However, I will agree with ProElite that it will have a slightly better edge in triangle/vertices drawing power.

Why? He was implying he knows some secret specs that have yet to be released(werent in the vgleaks post). So what are you basing that off of? You have the same information?

Also, he did say this was assuming vgleaks numbers were correct. I have no doubt that the overall specs are credible, but they've already shown they can mess up some simple numbers like the read speeds of the bluray drive...

The "kind of" exclusivity probably implies that it'll be PS only in Japan and multiplatform everywhere else.

I'm sure it's been asked a ton of times, but can someone put this in layman's terms? I get that it's powerful, but how powerful are we talking? Is it in the range of the best gaming PC you can build right now?

there's no reason for that, MS is getting roughly 170gb/s on their bandwith to the ps3 180gb/s, and they have more ram, and lower latency.

Wow if you are legit then probably Versus is now XV and is still exclusive huh?! Interesting.

This is extremely unlikely. The amount of money for them to switch to next gen development when they finally have a stable engine for both the 360 and PS3 would be ludicrous. I can't envision Square Enix deciding to not only commit a substantial amount of capital to rebuilding the game but also releasing it to a much smaller userbase.

Doesn't make any sense.

Also before GAF goes all nuts you really think a poster with no previous information on anything related to these systems all of a sudden has a megaton like that?

Use your thinking caps people.

I can only hope this new machine is strong enough to emulate PS2 games in 1080p the way most powerful computers can today. But I guess companies like HD remakes too much.

Oh man, hot news.

Square-Enix has new Final Fantasy games in development?! I thought they totally gave up that series for some reason!

Guessing every year that Versus will be revealed soon seems like it's playing the averages, but okay.

I suppose the only particularly defining part of this, uhm, leak is the guess of exclusivity, which you don't even particularly commit to.

People assumed that because all early leaks were for Durango. Reading all the rumours and I see that Orbis has been "ahead" at least when it comes to first dev kit delivery (Orbis=June/July 2011 Durango Sept 2011) and release dates (Orbis=Oct Durango Nov)

133 days to go.

Exclusive title would be an Online title again. Book it!

No way can Enix afford exclusivity anymore.

Moneyhats. Either way, I don't think they've moved Versus to next gen - and I haven't heard as such. I want them to, but that's beside the point.

The best gaming PC that 99% of people can build right now, or the 1% that are willing to spend thousands on multiple cutting edge graphics cards?

Probably not in either case, but that 'best gaming PC' idea is kind of a broad range.
