Judging by the lack of footage of this game and the early looking photos showing just one locale, I think it's clear that the game is in super early development. Really people should be a little more patient and at least wait until E3 before tearing this HD remake apart. I'm confident that this will be a worth while remake. At least it's not slapped onto a disc with just a higher resolution like most "HD" ports.

Yeah, chances are it will turn out fine, but it's something to talk about in the meantime, lol.

I'm playing through Wind Waker right now and am at Windfall.

Aonuma's problem is that none of his characters have a story. I guess he got lucky or just put in THAT much more effort in majora's mask. The only thing that gives these chara ters any sentimental value are the way they're drawn. Aesthitically, they're just too damn cute. But do I really give a fuck about the Killer Bees and their Jewelry obsessed teacher? Hell no!

Back to my point, this lack of character gives his games a barren feel which is a reoccuring problem in his last three games. When you then spread said one dimensional characters apart usig water (wind waker) or air (i hate the last zelda game so much i honestly cant even remember what its called), then you have a real problem.

Now, with that said, wind waker IS fun, has brilliant music, and i do rememberthat some of the side quests do become more in depth as the 'nighttime' mechanic comes to play and you find some weird shit happen at night on one or two of the islands. Otherwise, what we're left with here is a bigger sense of exploration moreso than a world with a lot at stake. The sister plot means more to me than ganon's fear mongering at this point.

Totally, totally disagree with this. There's more "character" in the freaking Salvatore than most open-world games. And, for the ones who matter to the plot, I think Ganondorf, King Hyrule, and Tetra are much more compelling than stock one-dimensional characters.

Could the side characters be more fleshed out? Sure. But you're clearly downplaying the amount of charm many of them have.

Screens look horrible in my opinion, apart from the much welcome addition of some dynamic lighting. Why would they do away with the characteristic cel-shaded style on the characters that the game is known and praised for? I sincerely hope the final version retains it.

Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Wind Waker director Eiji Aonuma have admitted that the last instalment in the GameCube series wasn't quite up to scratch - promising they'll do a lot better with Twilight Princess.

Aonuma told Swedish magazine Reset that the gameplay in Wind Waker was "dull", admitting that he was in a bit of a hurry when it came to working on the triforce piece hunt.

"At the end of the production we fought against the clock and there were parts that I was forced to approve even though it didn't feel complete," he said.

"I apologise that we didn't fix the triforce hunt at the end of the game. It was slow and dull."

The ironic thing is that they "fixed" the end of Wind Waker being slow and dull by making the beginning of Twilight Princess slow and dull.

Anton, Maggie's father, Mila, Mila's father, Kamo and Lenzo are all moderately fleshed out characters if you bother to play the sidequests and find out more about them. Even the ones with less depth have their own memorable personalities and amusing quirks, like Salvatore, Pompie and Vera, Candy, Garrickson, Gossack, etc. and I'm really only talking about Windfall.

I don't think extensive development or progression on the level of MM is needed to make an interesting NPC. Also, have you actually played Skyward Sword? Skyloft was easily one of the best things in the game.

Someone showed me an animated movie or show once that had very similar art style to Wind Waker, mainly the characters: flat colors, and the same almond shaped eyes.

Does anyone know what I am referring to? I don't remember the name of it...

I don't see a problem. This whole thing reminds me of the shit fit people threw about the art direction on diablo 3.

I'm ready. Nintendo shocked me with this. Made me tear-up. My favorite game of all time. Such emotion.

I now have a new game to save-up vacation time for.

When the original Wind Waker came-out a decade ago, I took off from work and just told them that I was going sailing. Now, at a different job, I think I'll be using the same excuse.

And yes, I'll be joining that orchestrated music prayer circle. Prayer candles are already lit.

So, cloudy weather VS sunny weather?

Yeah that's what I thought as well. I actually prefer sunny weather for the game. But I reckon both will be in there as the weather changes. Part of what makes Windwaker still a gorgeous game to watch is the way the weather and time of day changes the palette dramatically.

I took those screens as what Aonuma was saying a moment before, where he says they had been taking previous Zelda games and messing with them in HD, to see what kind of art style would suit Zelda U.

In other words, this is not exactly the release build.

I agree, I understood what he said to mean that these shots convinced him to start work on a remake. I don't recall him ever saying they were actually from the remake... I see them working on Wind Waker HD in order to get used to developing in HD, much like Capcom using RE Mercenaries 3D to familiarize themselves with the 3DS before Revelations... so while the art style, story, and basic design of the new zelda are being conceptualized the coders can practice on Wii U using WW...

That and I think OOT has shown them there is a market for rereleases. Considering how far out Zelda Wii U is WWHD etc is brilliant strategy to get fans stuff they want while they have to wait for the grand prize.

I wonder, will Nintendo try to remake Twilight Princess as well? That game could benefit from updated graphics and music quality (even more so than Wind Waker IMO) in addition to Skyward Sword controls.

It would be cool to see this realized after all:

I think their choice to remake WW gives us a good idea of the artistic direction the new game will follow... that said, it'd be cool to get TPHD while waiting for the next-next Zelda, if it will have a similar style that they want to play around with.

A new game in that style would be awesome. Or a 3D remake of 2D zelda in that style. I don't want a remake of twilight princess yet, considering how recent it is.

Heh, recent is relative with Nintendo I suppose. This Fall it will be 7 years since its release back in 2006. Although I suppose the Wind Waker will be 10 years old (released in 2003). So maybe TP remake in a few years?

It's not a remake, it would be a HD remaster.

I'm all for everything being remastered and being put up to date as long as they're faithful to the original vision (new waker graphics kinda irk me right now) and don't take too many resources from the main team if at all (they can outsource it for all I care, grezzo did a good job with OoT and it's not like Nintendo wouldn't be supervising what is a finished game anyway)

I have a list of shit they ought to fix though, TP needs more sidequests and a sense of purpose for Hyrule Town because it totally lacks it; seems like everything just came in the end of development so they did the zora quest and were done with it. Also difficulty settings are a must (and the original standard one is easy mode, no less).

Also, more shit to do around hyrule field, for sure.

call me pessimistic, and happy to be proven wrong, but i doubt wii u is capable of pulling of those visuals.

I'm curious, what about it looks better than what we've seen? The lighting? It looks absolutely incredible for Nintendo HD, but it doesn't really strike me as being significantly beyond what PS360 could do.

I think it definitely can. If you re-watch that tech demo, you can see a lot what looks great is actually the art. The effects are perfectly adequate, but they are not that special.

Monolith's game, for example, looks quite good.

The self shadowing seen there is far from standard this gen. Dynamic lightning is also pretty good, most games use it in pre-baked form because they don't ever change the time of the day, ever; therefore calculations on stencil shadows that way for static scenario objects is a waste.

Other than that, not much, it was a tech demo done in a rush; but it looks good.
