Day-1 purchase because I will be happily downloading this in the US on my Japanese 3DS on the day it's released!

Now to find time to play this monster of a game...

Really hoping for this... It's been a while since Terry's Wonderland launched, but not long enough to make me lose hope given DQMJ2's late release.

I'm still holding out hope for this, but I will be eternally sad if it doesn't make it over...

I reeeaaally want this to be localized. DQ7 is the only game in the series I've never really played. A couple years ago I picked up a used PS1 disc copy, but my PS2 staunchly refuses to recognize any PS1 memory cards. Getting a new/enhanced version on 3DS is a godsend.

C'mon, Nintendo... don't let us down.

IX sold pretty well didn't it? I think this will probably make it over. Here's hoping anyway. Sounds like they've done a pretty extensive job on this one.
IIRC, their more recent DQ releases weren't hot sellers, and North America is still missing the 3DS DQ spin offs. Still, I will hope (in vain)!

Hnnnnnnng

This is so soon all of a sudden. I would love to play the JPN version but I don't have a JPN 3DS.

Looking forward to impressions!

Maybe it's just because Sugiyama's music is more classically influenced than say the rock influences of Uematsu or the pop or dance influences of Koshiro but even after listening to those examples people listed, I still feel it's just bland filler that all sounds the same.

When I heard about DQ7 being remade for the 3DS I thought it was going to be some quick and dirty port but holy shit this looks awesome. Fully orchestrated music too, god damn.

Please come to the US.

Well SE didn't even feel like localizing DQ9 themselves, Nintendo had to do it for them. I'm not as confident as you are.

This is a completely backwards way of viewing it. They got Nintendo do to because they wanted it to be pushed hard just like what they did with like Layton and Monster Hunter. It also sold really really well for a jrpg in the west.

So DQ franchise is going to be Nintendo console/handheld for a long time than DQ did on PS/PS2?

I only played DQ (6?) DS game and DQ9 on PS2.

I can't wait for this and DQ X (10) on Wii U if it is localized.

Dragon Quest has always mostly been a Nintendo system franchise. Yes, VII and VIII were PS1 and PS2 games, but let's be honest. Nintendo was being TROUNCED when those two games came out.

I recall that around 4 or 5 years ago, there was a deal struck between Nintendo and Square for Nintendo to help push the series in the west, which is why V, VI and IX (and I guess DQMJ2 as well) were published in America by NOA

I'm so sad they went 3D for battles. I hated DQ8&9 because of that :(
What aspect did you dislike? It's done differently from either of those in this one. The characters stand in a row and you can see their backs and watch them attack quickly. So it's not like DQ8 where they show your characters' full attack and then switch to the enemy and show the damage, and it's not like DQ9 where they wander around aimlessly on the battlefield.

So with the 3DS being backwards compatible, that means there's potential for

Hypothetical Dragon Quest 1&2 GBC eShop release
Hypothetical Dragon Quest 3 GBC eShop release
DQ 4, 5, and 6 - playable with DS BC
DQ 7 - 3DS release
DQ 9 - playable with DS BC

Yes, I hated what you're pointing in 8 and 9.

I like in the traditional DQ when enemies are looking at me with their stupid big smile/menacing look and then attack. The fact that you see only the monsters, all the spotlights are on them and that always has been a big deal for me in that series.

With that said, battles in this remake seem to be way better than in 8/9 and only characters presence on the screen and their animation bother me. I hope it's fast enough and there is no fanfare or opening animation in the beginning of each battle.

The Dragon Quest theme is probably my favorite piece of game music ever created. Unfortunately, my respect for Sugiyama as a musician and composer is outweighed by my disgust for his revisionist beliefs. Denying the Nanking Massacre and claiming that Korean comfort women were all volunteers who willingly gave their bodies to Japanese soldiers is pretty sickening.

I thought that was just for marketing purposes. Nintendo SHOULD continue to publish Dragon Quest in the U.S., they need to build the franchise so we don't have to wonder with every single game release.

This is a completely backwards way of viewing it.

It isn't when you realize that Square Enix dropped VI halfway leaving Nintendo to pick up the pieces. It's pretty clear Square Enix had no interest in the series anymore after IV on the DS. V had an incredibly low-key small print run until it got reprinted two years ago.

Additionally, they even half-assed IV. Dropping party chat was a huge mistake.

And now we're dealing with a Square Enix that seems content in having Eidos titles be their western products almost exclusively save for big HD games (KH, Lightning Returns). Lightning Returns (I could be wrong, but after XIII-2 just falling off the radar in like 2 weeks, I can't see how LR would do better) flopping could even put an end to that..

If we're gonna get VII, Nintendo's going to have to do it. I can kinda deal with them passing up the previous two 3DS games if the point was to focus on this one...

While we're wishing for hypothetical releases, lets toss in a Dragon Quest VIII HD remaster for Wii U.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
It's funny how people still say it's the longest RPG when people regularly quote their playtimes for Persona 3 and 4 as considerably longer. Just goes to show how memories color perception.

Hmm, it took me 80 hours to beat both P3 and 4, and 120 to beat DQ7 (and 145 to beat Xenoblade). I'm kinda slow at these games though since I like to talk to all the villagers.

would be lovely and lets not forget a probable DQ 11 for 2014/2015

Famitsu posted some new info:
  • There's a new menu option that lets you read a recap of everything that has happened up until that point.
  • New Casino game (Lucky Panel/Memory)
  • New monsters from DQ9/10/Terry's Wonderland

This OT really bums me out.

I sincerely doubt we'll ever see a localized version of this :(

Oh well, there's always All The Bravest...........Maybe........
