Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance |OT| A Blade Forged In Platinum [LAW OF THE WILD]

I wonder if/when the US UNIQLO stores will be selling the shirts?

I would think so. I picked this up at the New York City store in December. One of the other designs they had then was one in that Kojima pic.

I'll be in San Francisco in a week and a half. Hopefully Rising tees will be in stores then.

im a fucker

edit: game length literally doesn't matter if whats there is good, dorkos. Vanquish was like 2 hours long but one of the most replayable things this gen.

Vanquish (aka the best shooter this gen) is nowhere near 2 hours long...more like 6-7hrs the first time you play it.

I swear to god; if a story in which (DmC spoilers)
killing an unborn child
is lauded as a heroic act is commemorated more than Rising's crazy tale, I will eat Metacritic.

Also, re: Xbox control scheme; the controls are almost identical for both. If you really really want one I guess I can get deim0s to whip one together, but is it really necessary?

Prepare for one hell of a symposium then. :(

Is there any particular reason as to why? Besides maybe those that reason that the story has been hurt by Plat's zaniness.
I'm with those guys. DmC is flashier and more approachable than MGR and reviewers tend to reward that over depth and challenge.

The main reason is rising is going to be a game that takes time to master. It has a control scheme that on the surface is actually fighting against you, until you learn how to use it correctly.

expect to see playthroughs where people still haven't mastered blade mode midway through the game.

secondly, the enviorments in this game are drab. No getting around it. It's not UE3 grey but to the average reviewer, DmC is a much prettier game.

thirdly the energy gain from zanidatsu is repetitive. It will wear thin on the best of players. The same goes for all the rest of glorfied QTEs in the game.

I can go on but if you look at western reviews for these types of games and look at the negative points they pick up on, this will have Plently to piss them off.

that said there will be people who just get it, love the balls to the wall action and the depth in the game and will give the game a very high score.

While DmC's story deserves to be shit on and NT clearly put this in for the controversy, your making it sound worse than it is.

In the story, the baby in question wasn't an innocent child who doesn't isn't even consciousness of his environment like most babies are. It's a demonic baby that sensed dante and specifically demanded that he be killed when he came within the vicinity of Lilith. Besides that, he is Mundus child and is probably going to grow up to be as much of a problem as Mundus was. Vergil killing the demon here is really no different than Dante killing any other demon.

But even if all that were not true somehow, no one lauded Vergil's action. Dante's first comment on the fact was "WTF?!". Because it put Kat in danger, but he didn't endorse killing Mundus' child, and no one else commented on it either. And when dante went up to mundus, he was clearly lying, mostly evident in the fact that he takes credit for the kill when it was Vergil who did it.

Shit on the story like it deserves to and not otherwise.

Got the LE preordered, can't wait! Are there any videos of the plasma lamp? Just curious to see how it looks in a real-world setting.

Eh. Bayonetta was the same, and it managed to get a 90 average on metacritic. (on the 360 anyway)

Maybe. Didn't they have an environment trailer that showed a japanese garden setting or something? Maybe they'll do environments like that.

Yeah, I agree, this is worrisome.

Maybe we'll get lucky and MGR will be lauded anyway.

Id argue that bayonetta has a lower barrier of entry than even DmC. You didn't really NEED lock on for anything, the basic PPK ,PPPPK and KKK dealth with basically anything, witch time was just as get out of jail free card for noobs and angel weapons decimated anything on the lower levels.

Maybe. Didn't they have an environment trailer that showed a japanese garden setting or something? Maybe they'll do environments like that.

Even that looked pretty washed out and boring even compared the same type of environment in NGS, 2 and 3, Much less DmC. You are going to have a problem with reviewers not being able to look past the Club level in that game.

I really can't agree with that. While I didn't finish it close to two hours, I'd a final time of 3 hours 47 minutes on hard mode the first time through the game (I had died twice, both in the final act so maybe about three hours fifty-seven minutes in total if you include replaying an area) and, I have to admit, I'm not particularly good at shooting games (I played it much more similar to Gears of War's online mode with constant rolling really) so it doesn't strike me as too unbelievable that a better player (especially if it's finished on normal) could end up close to three hours (I skipped the cutscenes though so I'm solely referring to the time spent playing the game; if you're including the cutscenes in that time I suppose it would make sense) or lower depending on their proficiency in the genre. That's not to take away from the game though, I absolutely agree with the praise for it, but I definitely would agree with the comment that it was very short (which as mentioned in the quote you're replying to, isn't a problem due to its replayability).

Anyway, excellent choice on the official topic title ScraftyDevil, you truly managed to cut through the fat and pick the right choice. Although slightly more apprehensive of the game since the demo (I'm still not sure how I feel about the focus on parrying and the preset dodge commands) I'll absolutely be getting it day one. One thing I'm curious about, in the demo, a lot of the longer moves seemed very similar to one another and I'm worried that the combat may end up feeling repetitive by the end of the game, do we know yet if each additional blade has a new moveset or is it (as I suspect) merely a stat and cosmetic change? I'll still be getting the game at launch regardless but it'd be nice to know/

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Gamepro Germany gave MGR 85%.

For the record they gave DmC 86% :p

no1currs, because half those reviewers trashed the prince (after the king Ninja Gaiden:Black), DMC3:SE in their Donte must Cry reviews. They have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to action games, so who should regard them.

Action game fans seem more hyped for Metal Gear Raiden than Donte must Cry and that's all that matters.

The only thing this game is missing is a playable female character.
Please, make it happen. Make that a reality, Platinum.

Your arguing that they liked bayonetta because of 3 combo's they stuck to, yet they will be maddened into boredom by blade mode?

Playing in the club was awful. Dante was colored by the lights to the point that it was difficult to make him out from the environment, and especially on the final boss where it was so dark that you could barely see him.

I'm not saying you don't have a point here, because the club itself was pretty, but it boggles my mind how they thought it was good to set it up the way they did.

I pre-ordered the Australian Limited Edition a while back, super stoked to get the LE white Raiden Play Arts figure, it's just a shame it doesn't come with the Shinkawa steelbook.

Out of curiosity, is there any other way to get the white figure, or is it exclusive to the LE?

Probably retail too but limited quantities. There are orange/red version coming out:

While the demo was slightly underwhelming for me (not up to KojiPro or Platinum standards, IMO), I will still most likely be picking this up Day 1.

It's a 60FPS Metal Gear game. That's all they need to put on the box to get my sale.

I was hyped for this game until I played the demo. Nothing wrong with the game itself except that I am extremely bad at it. I just can't get the hang of the controls. I'm contantly getting owned. It's bad enough that I'm considering cancelling my preorder. Can someone talk me off the ledge?

Just realized I never praised the amazing OT

Really really great work.

These trophies/chievos will hurt like pissing nails.

Can't wait!

I don't think they'll be too bad

I was going to suggest having a list of "Master Cyborg Ninjas" for people who complete the pack like the NG2 thread

but I'm not sure it'll end up being any where near as hard as that game.

Dash Kappei

Not actually that important
I can't believe I've wasted almost 40quid for Starfox and PES13 on 3DS and now I don't have money to get this game... fuck me. I know it'll drop in price like a rock in UK within a month, but damn this should've been a day 1 purchase, love Platinum

Here's a small pro-tip post from another thread that can help. This will help with the demo, and hopefully prepare you for the game you didn't cancel a pre-order on.

To help everyone out who's still going throught the demo, here's some PS3 info on attacks that can help out. Most of the Special move info is from the video FlashBlade has been mentioning (thanks for keeping that up). It's worth watching it just to see how these are supposed to practically work too.
(Posting a lot of this from memory and a little research, call out something if you think it's wrong)

Special Moves
(unofficial names made on the fly; at least they look cool)

Fwd + Square = Parry (also in the air)

Fwd Fwd + Square = Launch

Fwd Fwd + Triangle = Dashing strike

360 Rotation + Triangle = Spinning Slash

X + Square = Evasion (optional direction)

Bk + Fwd + Square = Palm Strike

Bk + Fwd + Triangle = Blade Sweep

Ninja Run + Square = Quick Slash

Ninja Run + Triangle = Slide

Ninja Run + Triangle + Square/Triangle (Slide + Ground slam)

Jump + Triangle = Dive Kick

Some Combos (from GameFAQs)
unconfirmed for right now, will give all a try and update soon.

Square (repeatedly) = unlimited light attacks

Triangle (repeatedly) = unlimited heavy attacks

Triangle (delay) + Square + Triange = Sweep 'n' Strike

Triangle + Triangle + Square + Triangle

Triangle + Triangle + Triangle + Square + Triangle

Square + Triangle (delay) + Square + Triangle

Triangle + Square + Triangle

(there's one or two, or more jump combos off of launcher, I'll post those later when I can confirm them again)

Tips

-Don't forget that with blade mode, you have the option of using square(horizontal)/triangle(vertical) strikes instead of the analog stick. Although, I get the feeling that correct aiming with the analog will really come in handy later in the game.

-Unless you're looking to get S ranking in everything, you might try experimenting with Blade Mode. Sadistic as it is, cutting off limbs and leaving the torso to walk or crawl in agony is pretty cool.

-The most opportune time to use Blade mode is when you've got a stunned opponent. Once the attack slows down and the guy glows orange, start cutting.

-Triangle + Circle gives you a stylish finishing attempt on an enemy once he/it's stunned.

-Stealth-killing is mostly getting above or behind a cyborg or gekko and hitting the button prompt.

Akainu, I'm really curious. What ARE you looking forward to in this game?
Nothing anymore.

Do you even plan on trying the full release out?
Yes. Just because I'm disappointed in whats become of it. Doesn't mean I'm not going to play it. Hell I absolutely hate suda goichi but that hasn't stopped me from playing any of his games.

Thanks. I'll try again this evening. I was more discouraged playing that demo than I was playing Dark Souls.

Anything on which version looks the best?

Honestly I'd consider what it plays better on. I thought it being a MGS game that PS3 would be an easy choice. I'm starting to think 360 might be the better option.

I'm salty as fuck right now. I was going for Platinums in Bayo, had mission 2 practically wrapped up with a mixture of Pure Platinums and Platinums and I resigned myself to just the Platinum overall (can still unlock Jeanne). Was feeling myself until the last fucking second of the mission there's a god damn instant kill QTE. Fuck! Ok, it's X so I mash X the next time and I died again. THERE'S A WINDOW FOR THE BUTTON PRESS. So I get it on the 3rd attempt and take a look at my final mission score. It's bronze

I... I can't

This doesn't have QTEs does it?

If you're like me and will play it partly out of being a MG game, I hope you get some enjoyment out of it. Otherwise, I hope you're not playing it just to tally up what you already know you don't like about it.

Anything on which version looks the best?

PS3 seems to be the better according to most accounts. Less tearing, better-looking cutscenes, and DLC VR missions that 360 won't get (hopefully someday though).

lol

People are still complaining about the length?

Action games don't need to be 20 hours plus long.

Beyond that, this game has tons of replay:

Stealth-kills only playthrough.

Murdertown playthrough.

Civ Disguise playthrough.

One type of weapon only playthrough.

VR missions.

Not even counting the many different pathways every level has (as stated by that Mexican review).

I've

never missed that QTE in my life. Like not even to see what happens when you miss it

Even when it was in the pre-release demo I played over 100 times

even when I've played it many more 100s of times across multiple platforms with different buttons for the prompt

It's one of the few you can actually mash

Edit: lol wrong QTE

This game would make zero sense having a female playable character. Keep that to Hayashi and the crew.

Raiden's badass enough to carry the game alone.

True that.

Although people should remember that the game is eventually getting DLC, so Sunny could be a possibility.

Man, I can't wait to play as a Gekko in the VR missions. MOOOO.

Also if you're going for Platinums on your initial playthrough you're in for a bad time regardless

Started a fresh file and went through normal. First time I pretty much put the controller down. Second time I went in. There's a window in which you can mash with a circle thing, you can't just go HAM from as soon as the cutscene starts.

It's pretty simple but man, I'm mad as fuck lol

Wait. Isn't that the demo we are all playing now? That thing is an older build. Best to wait for the release build in order to judge.

Yep, they are the only comparative videos that I know.

I really hope that the frame rate will be more stable in the final release.

There are a few videos of the same area, just not demo-ifed.

One of the differences I saw was that the enemy was able to parry your parry while you parried his parry.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'm thinking of the the one at the end of Chapter 1. lol Where she jumps off the bridge piece after being thrown.

My bad

The one at the end of 2 with the fucking boss is a mother fucker haha. Same shit happened to me on a couple Platinum runs.

and yeah that's the exact trick. Same with the bridge falling one in the next stage.(although fortunately this one is only midway through the level)

At least you figured it out though. I didn't immediately so those sections always had my heart pounding for quite a while after a really good run. lol
First time I pretty much put the controller down.

Bayonetta is actually the game that conditioned me to NEVER put the controller down during cutscenes. Broke me out of those MGS4 habits.

You never know when a new enemy is gonna show up and attack you out of one. Be on guard AT ALL TIMES lol
