LEGO GAF |OT2|: Building Dreams. Demolishing Wallets

Alright I need help. What's a good set to pick up for less than $50?

Headed to the Lego store later and I'm planning on trying again for minifigs(this time asking) and getting a PAB cup and looking for a good smaller set to pick up as well.

The A-Wing is a great buy. Also the Chase McCain set is also pretty cool and you get a code for the upcoming game as well!

Desert Skiff gets you the latest and greatest Boba Fett.

$50 is a tough price point with Lego. You get lots of sets in the $20 - $30, and lots of good ones in the $70-$100 range (in Canada at least). I think XWing/Tie/YWing are around $50 USD aren't they? They're all great. You could also do well with one of the Creator houses.

The A-Wing has great figures, but it's far too expensive for its size.

Edit:

Good call. Neat set, and you also get a good Lando.

Looks like Cinema on S@H is now free shipping as part of the early VIP access.

Hmmm. Just got that as well. Might do that instead of driving. But then I have to wait. And worst of all, I would have to put up with FedEx.

Feels good to have it finally!

But...but...that newness!

You'll find out that older means more expensive when it's no longer in stores. I think every single person in this thread that has built the Fire Brigade give it a thumbs up. Get it before you have to pay well over 30% retail at least.

There's a lot of sets. You need to narrow it down to what your interest are in. Creator sets are always good as sets and for building your own stuff. As someone else mentioned, there are a lot of $20-$30 sets. You can buy 2-3 of the less expensive sets for $50. If you like super heroes, I highly recommend any of the $20 super hero sets.

Got my Cinema, will guild it when I get home from school. They didn't ask to see the mailing, so it looks like any VIP member can purchase it early, even if you didn't get a mailing.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll keep them in mind. I think I will probably lean toward the creator houses. I've been interested in getting something along those lines.

BOO-URNS!

Still mega hyped, but I shall have to be EXTRA careful with this one. Too bad they didnt make it a buildable frame where you can put a paper poster in there and print your own.

Good idea. I think I'll try doing a scan and print on cardboard stock paper when I get the set.

Photos of said fused copter please. The HQ with the bear? Dat bear!

Ordered the HQ with the bear last night. It should be here tomorrow and I'll be able to modify this helicopter again. Anyway, I had very limited parts. As in, just the parts from the two free bagged helicopters. I'm hoping to eventually be able to create a police-style MH6 Little Bird, but it's going to be tough haha.

Anyway, here are the pictures. They're of terrible quality. I don't have a white screen for behind, the lighting in my apartment sucks, and my iPod touch doesn't have the greatest camera. Oh well haha.

Overview

Closeup of the cockpit. Very similar to what the original was in the bagged helicopter. Control sticks are sunk in another level, though.

Left side. Sniper on the left with the Werewolf Monster Fighter's rifle, and Gordon's SWAT gear body with a new head, holding on to the railing on top. I think it's a cool idea, but its not executed very well. I'll try to fix it once I get more parts.

Them again, a bit closer now.

The other side. That's Gordon in the S9 Cop uniform.

Opened cockpit. Cocky pilot

What Commissioner Gordon looks like in the S9 Cop uniform. I dig it, personally.

Hopefully those are good enough for you haha. I'm not happy with the helicopter yet, but once I get more parts I am confident that I can do it better.

I do not undrstand why people order directly from Lego. If I have to order a set, I use Amazon Prime with my Amazon Card. I get free 2 day shipping and double Amazon points that can be used on anything, not just Lego. That goes both ways too, so anything else I ever buy on Amazon earns me points that can also be spent on Lego as well. I guess the bagged freebies that happen during certain sales? It just dosen't seem worth it compared to what Amazon offers.

Exclusive to LEGO right now for Palace Cinema. It will be a bit before it shows on Amazon at MSRP.

I ask myself that same question every time. But there's something ad ducting about visiting a LEGO retail store and building up the VIP points.

Whoa. It is actually free express shipping if you choose. ALL shipping speeds are free.

Might do that instead of driving...but then I have to wait still.

Is the drive 70 miles one way? That's a lot of gas money and time. Think of the LEGO you can buy with the money saved by shipping it.

Amazon definitely has better deals when they have a good discount. LEGO S@H is good for the freebies especially if it's an exclusive minifig (such as TC-14 or minifigure Hulk). The other reason is the price to pay for getting exclusive sets months earlier. Another may be hard to find sets.

There's a lot of little stuff they do to push VIP and buying from them. LEGO does stuff like double VIP points which is 10% off. That said, I do get most of my regular LEGO from Amazon or Walmart only when discounted.

Lego put more items as retiring soon. It's basically all the first wave of Friends Pets and the Chima Speedorz. Noteworthy is that Minifigure Series 9 is done for. I guess bring on Series 10 and the golden figures!

Basically means they are done producing any future sets and working through their current inventory (which is unpredictable). After that, retail stores may still have stuff in their inventories. ToysRUs and Barnes&Noble often have a few old sets straggling around. Series 9 should still be in LEGO stores for a good 6-8 weeks more. My main LEGO store still had series 8 until a week or two before series 9 came out.

fuck me, did you just but all those in one hit?

No, just the newest addition today. The rest I had picked up throughout 2012.

I had built the Town Hall, Pet Shop and Fire Brigade last year, but took them down again. Now that I have the display space, I am going to build all six in one row. So far I only have the Grand Emporium built.

You got Moxie, kid!
I would kill a man for Green Grocer. Cinema is kind of cool, but it does not have that "I must have this NOW" factor of most past modulars (counterexample: Market Street).

That's the new branding - as of 2013, what used to be known as "Direct" kits (Models, Modulars, Winter Village, etc) will now be branded as "Creator Expert".
