Pachter was right about PS4 graphics

Pachter was... right?

In all seriousness though, it's not as big as a visual leap. I'm sure that the games are going to be amazing, especially when you see them in person, but that huge wow factor of PS2 to PS3 is gone, and likely won't ever be back.

For once, I'd have to agree with the guy.

The visuals, while definitely pretty, did not feel like a substantial leap over PS3.

Am I the only one that feels like we're truly getting diminishing returns?

No. Watch_Dogs & Deep Down looked decidedly next generation.

Also, wait until E3 when we'll see Star Wars 1313, PS4 Final Fantasy, Last Guardian, Dark Souls 2, and whatever else they've got.

How the fuck do people look at Dragon Dogma 2 demo and KZ4 and not say its not a big enough leap.

You fucking people are blind, get some glasses.

Even watching the Giantbomb shit quality stream this morning you could tell it was next gen.

Looks leagues better than anything on the PS3.

I'm not disappointed in the slightest. And what we saw were just launch titles running via streams. 2-3 years from now will blow our minds.

And we're done here.

Killzone blew me away, as did Deep Down. Next gen is here, and for launch titles they look solid.

Hell, even Destiny was looking good. Sure it doesn't stand up to Killzone, but considering the size and scope of the game I though it looked great.

They are pretty and definitely a step above PS3. But yeah, it's no... HUGE leap. I don't know if it's just me, but even early PS360 games felt more impressive for their time. Again, it's not like my PS3 can pull off these graphics, but still.

the only game shown that your PS3 probably can't play is KZ

Considering KZ looks considerably better than anything on any console, and it's a launch game, I would say your expectations were too high.

But that's the least we can expect, right?

Yeah, i think diminished returns are definitely here. Not surprising either. Games are pretty right now, so making them a little prettier isn't going to necessarily blow people away. By the end of this gen the games will be more impressive, of course, but this next generation of graphics aren't going to have the same wow factor.

That's why everybody is trying to push other aspects.. Social gaming, off-screen play, media-hub capabilities, apps, downloadable games, streaming games, etc..

Need I remind you what we saw during the PS3 reveal.

Also, Deep Down looked AMAZING.

Killzone and some other games were far and away better than anything on consoles right now. You people either need to get your eyes checked or really bring down the completely unrealistic expectations a bit. Or both.

Compare Deep Down to Dark Souls or Skyrim on consoles... the difference is much more massive than I could have anticipated.

Killzone4 looks like old code if you had to ask me. With the megaton announcement of 8GB of RAM, I think GG is going to go to town on its next-gen engine by the time E3 rolls around.

The bottom line is GG is top three best in the biz at producing dumbfounding graphics, much better than Capcom and therefore will further melt our eyes with each new media blowout like always.

killzone looks better then crysis 2. much much better, if it was real time, its the best thing i've even seen

Looking at the scope/size of the city I could agree but not once your in 'full control' of your character, I just wasn't that impressed, this doesn't feel like the jump we had in past generations tbh.

What PS3 game does anything _substantially_ close to the cityscape in KZ4?

I'm not a fan of KZ but seeing that future cityscape rendered so immaculately in realtime got me real excited for a next gen Mass Effect or the like...

Not sure if serious, looked substantially better than current consoles.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about Rayman Legends Wii U.
I was pretty fucking impressed. Graphics don't sell me on a console, but it looked hellagud.

I'm worried about dev times though... I'm also worried about how this "hyper"realism will translate into Gameplay. That dragon, for instance, cannot act like a dragon in a film while you fight it. It will stand around stupidly while you swing and it it unless they really think through how gameplay works. This is where it will get interesting - how they balance such visual realism with gameplay.

Please be an indication of graphics for next gen Skyrim. Pleaaase!

I suspect it will look better.

I wasn't blown away by the graphics, but I wasn't disappointed either. They were exactly what I expected. I was just hoping I'd see games that I could actually get excited for, and I didn't see anything like that.

I'd recommend you get glasses if you didn't see a generational leap. Killzone Shadow Fall is a colossal leap over Killzone 3. Not to mention Deep Down and Knack.

Expectations should always be logical. Considering how Killzone 4 looks (a launch title 10 months from release), I don't know what the hell you were thinking

Kills one and the Dragon Dogmas 2 demos looked excellent leap. In 5 years from now, we'll all laugh at how impressed we were when the 4th and 5th gen titles start rolling out.

Yeah launch titles aren't made to be sold. Stupid game industry. Can we also stop the meme of not being impressed with the graphics for at least one gen?

I love how with Killzone, the same people that laughed at the suggestion that they matched or came close to the target renders are dismissive of the PS4 game despite looking much, much better than the 2005 target render video. Gotta love the console warz!

If you look at the launch PS3 games, and the videos being showed today, I'd say it's EASILY what you would expect from a generational leap.

I couldn't disagree more. These games blow away current gen, it's a huge leap. Just look at Deep Down and Killzone... and Infamous... and Watch Dogs... and Driveclub. Nothing on current gen looks comparable, and these are first-gen games.

Edit: wow at that deep down gif

I think it's quite an upgrade in the details. But sure, there are diminishing returns. It's like those people who couldn't tell difference between DVD and Blu-ray. To some it's a big huge deal, and to others they can barely tell the difference.

The graphics shown today did look heaps better than anything on current consoles. The IQ alone is already way above and beyond, and then everything else looks better as well.

lol, i'm more than impressed.
Just for perspective. Killzone 3, the best looking FPS on consoles this gen, looks like this...

KZ3 has much better moments, but this image is comparable to the one from the new game. Suddenly, it doesn't look so great anymore.
