What looked different for you? I have only seen the benchmark.

It turns off SSAO, for one.

I'm in the TressFX is kind of nasty camp. It just looks awkward as hell sometimes.

I decided on max settings, TressFX off, SSA x2. 80 FPS average in the benchmark, decent temps and looks really nice and clean. This is a great looking game.

However, I'm getting lots of crashes... Two in the last 30 minutes. I won't play this tonight.

I've played for 45 minutes and have had 3 crashes on a 2600k + GTX 680.

I'm on beta drivers so trying an upgrade now

I'm on the newest beta and still getting crashing. :/

Crashes seem to be random. I cant recreate any but they still happen pretty consistently.

BETA.

I tried disabling TressFX, tesselation, precision. Nothing seems to fix the crashes. On 314.14 beta.

Last screenshot I got before the crash. I don't care if it looks goofy sometimes, I'm leaving TressFX on as long as possible.

edit: Sorry for the crappy backdrop, was trying to leave it as spoiler-free as possible.

huh?

Is this some sort of "first world problem" joke?
First world problem for sure, but it wasn't a joke. I have no idea why, but the game just looks slightly odd running so smoothly.

And maybe it's because I'm using Crossfire, but TressFX looks horrible/glitchy and causes random stutters regardless of resolution or AA settings.

No crashes so far, though.

Holy shit you guys! This game is fucking beautiful! I was so scared after reading this thread.

i3 2120 3.3
8 gigs
HD6870

Plays on ultra 1080p and its smooth! No tearing nothing.

This is one of the best looking games I have ever played. I'm only about an hour in but no crashes.

Wow is all I can say.

Edit: tressfx in ultra slows me to like 25-30 fps but tressfx on high = 50-60

I prefer standard hair.

Runs good overall. Tress fx is terrible...it may produce a few decent gifs but it is ugly has hell 90% of the time.

I can never tell the difference between SSAO on or off, I feel like I'm going blind or something. Pretty soon I'll start calling things sterile and prefer cinematic framerates.

Tress FX is a super performance hog , everytime the engine has to load dem hair physics up it hitches pretty bad, then it runs awesome for 5 seconds , hitches again and so on . It also appears to be slightly glitched because it follows the general collision path of the normal hair.

Looks awesome in screens but not so much during gameplay.

The rest of the game though- I left it on ultra and it seems to be hovering around 40-60 fps with tressFX off. My 2X5870 show their age a bit whenever heavy tessellation is present and tomb raider is no exception. I imagine a driver update and a patch will fix tress FX up, in the meantime I'll just leave it off.

Im not getting stutters yet but Im not running Crossfire.

About the sooth odd sensation, maybe is your monitor? Are you on 120 hz? My experience is perfect here, running the beta Crysis 3 catalyst.

No crashes after an hour of play. Had tessellation off though.

Also just a quick note for any SLI users, I had the Exclusive Fullscreen option unticked and my 670s were only at ~45% utilization. I then switched to exclusive fullscreen using the in-game options and my cards went up to 99%. Huge FPS boost after that.

I might be out of the norm, but this game runs beautifully for me. Max settings, except for precision off, FXAA, and normal SSAO. 1080p / Vsynced with triple buffering. Buttery smooth at 60fps with no crashes so far (knock on wood). And I actually like TressFX, sometimes it can look a little wonky, but so far it's been more hit than miss.

Regardless, it definitely looks like a current gen game (it is, I know), especially after finishing up Crysis 3...

My specs: i5 2500K@4.2Ghz, 7970 @ 1Ghz (13.2 beta 7 drivers).

TressFX is interesting.

It kills my 660ti, and I don't like how the ponytail goes crazy. What I do like is the strands of hair in her face and the color of her Tress hair looks different.

I can't wait until next gen graphics cards come out. This and Crysis 3 seem to even be a little heavy for the top of the line cards in a single gpu set up.

Just got it unlocked on Steam.

Got 48.5 FPS in the benchmark running at 1920x1200 with the base Ultimate setting (TressFX on).

Just disabled TressFX and got 59.3 FPS in the same benchmark.

The hair looked nice (and kind of janky), but I'm not sure if it's worth the performance hit.

Running an i5 2500k @ 4.2GHz, Radeon 7970 @ 1GHz 3GB RAM, and 16GB DDR 1600MHz RAM.

TressFX looks awesome in the benchmark. Lara is just standing there with the wind blowing. The problem is while playing and moving her around it looks really bad.

Damn.
This game is something else.

The graphics put crysis 3 to shame. Definitely had my mouth open staring at the screen for a while (not just because of Laura). It doesn't stop there, the animation, environment interaction, physics, etc - so well executed. I wonder how more incredible this game could have been had they not padded it with useless multiplayer.

The TressFX thing: definitely adds something to the game. Going back to regular hair just seems bleh. I know it sounds silly, but it adds more depth to the character and makes it easier to connect with her - she seems so incredibly human...

I honestly want to have her babies.

Playing with a 7850 overclocked to whatever AMD overdrive lets you. Haven't tried playing around with the voltages, but perhaps I should as my card doesn't get hotter than 64 C. Getting a rather unstable ~ 35-40 frames, so I hope there is a patch that can give me consistent 40 fps or so. Seems the hair thing really kills the framerate, especially in moments when you zoom in on her face (but worth it).

Running pretty well on my 2x 660Ti and FX8320 at 1080p. 60fps for the most part on ultra preset with some dips into the 40-50 range.

However, had to turn off tessellation because it was crashing like crazy. That seemed to fix it. Better performance as well, of course.

I'm really puzzled how this got through QA. Seems like close to 100% of Nvidia users in this thread have the crashing issue.

No crashes in 2 and a half hours, on an AMD card. It did seem to lock on a loading screen for a long time, alt+tabing out and back in again sorted that though.

Haha, uh, wow. Poe's law all up in here.

Also the crashes seriously seem to be time-based for me. The game locks up about every ten-to-fifteen minutes, regardless of whether it's in gameplay, a cutscene, or a menu. Really not sure what to make of this.

TressFX is so nice compared to the normal hair that I'm willing to give up the 15fps it cost me.
It's seriously the best in game hair ever.
Besides in a game like this I can't tell the difference between 60 and 45 fps.

GTX 570, I7 930 (not overclocked, don't know how to), and 16gb of ram here. Game runs pretty smooth at near max (everything at maxed at 1920x1080, aside from the AA only being one step up from FXAA) and the game runs pretty smooth. Then I turn on TressFX and the FPS just completely dies. Goes from smooth to single digits, and even less than that. Running the drivers released today and everything.

Oh well, something to look forward for the next PC upgrade.

AMD and 2 or 3 crashes here, it's not exclusive :)

I might be missing something but how do I get 5.1 audio out of the game? I moved my computer over to my main setup and it's only showing up as pro logic instead of what I would expect be 5.1 PCM. Under the properties for the audio device, everything looks good. Am I missing something that I need to toggle?

My specs are:

Alienware X51
i5
Radeon 7870
HDMI hooked up from the Radeon directly to my Pioneer receiver.

Normally everything works from other devices (DTS HD, Dolby True HD, Lossless PCM, etc).

If you just moved your rig, did you check the control panel and make sure Windows didn't default the audio back to 2.1? My laptop does that sometimes.

And yeah, there are zero audio settings in the options screen. Found that strange.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
I don't crash but i have heavy graphic bugs and glitches. After 30 minutes or so into the game it gets so bad i can't see shit and have to restart the game.

That was it, thanks!

Edit: Weird, are the pre-rendered scenes only in 2.0 stereo?
