SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

It sounds as though this is a rare case where the beta was actually a LOT better than the final release. I'm glad I waited to buy this.

And I thought the Diablo launch was bad. Hell, when I got into that game I could actually use all of my skills. What's next? Can only plop so many buildings every 5 mins?

Total disaster for launch.

that's essentially what disabling cheetah speed does

What abandoned cities issue?

I'm not sure if this is what he is referring to but if you abandon your city in a region it appears there is no way to wipe it clean and start over. My city went bankrupt and I abandoned it. Went to reclaim and it's still in debt. So it seems it just stays abandoned and in debt. If you want a that same plot of land you have to do it on a different region.

Yes what was the point of disabling that? Sigh...

Because of their shitty and customer unfriendly design (read: business) decision to constantly stream content to and from the server has gone and overwhelmed the servers, their solution is to slow down the amount of content being streamed in order to lighten the load.

*sigh* sucks that Maxis cannot release a game without a ton of controversy. First it was the whole DRM thing with Spore. Now it's online-only with SimCity.

I'm torn, on the one hand I could see how the developers and designers wanted to have this vast networked SimCity and the benefits. But sucks that the infrastructure has totally failed them. I mean, if the servers had actually held true, I don't think we'd be having this discussion to these levels.

I still have a hard time believing, like some people, that this game was "engineered" solely to be customer unfriendly and online-only just to utilize DRM.

I was told that other people couldn't join abandoned cities.

Civ 5 - not online, played a few hundred hours, super fun and addictive
SimCity - I don't want to even bother trying to load it anymore

I've no idea about that one. I think it's rather stupid there is no way to wipe it clean though. We setup regions for gaf and everyone got a specific plot. So what am I to do if the region is already filled and there is no way to start over my city? Not play with the people I want to anymore? =\

Try and make some money and then bulldoze everything I guess

It was engineered online only just for drm. There is no reason for a private region with all cities controlled by me to have to me online. No reason at all.

Now they are disabling things like cheetah speed. That will effect the actual gameplay and make it unplayable. Do you have half an hour to wait for more money to come in with the game on ?

Holy shit, well guess amazon did what they needed to do. Do not sell a broken game.
They're probably receiving a lot of direct customer complaints and returns. Naturally you'd have to remove a non-functional product from sale. This is really going to hurt EA and I'm glad. They need to learn. Gutted for most of the developers though. To see your work go up in flames like this must be devastating. I'm pretty devastated that they could mishandle the launch so badly.

That said, the game will be fixed and will work. I'll be patient because the beta was very enjoyable and seemed to work.

Anyway, I'll report on how the UK launch goes for me at midnight, 4 hours away. I'm expecting not to be able to play, so anything more than that would be a bonus.

Why does it keep saying sewage pipe at maximum? It seems no amount of extra plants will fix it.

Edit: I also hope my game saved this time. :(
