Gears of War: Judgment Review Thread

nailed it.

Just seems like a cheap cash in on the franchise at this point.

That's right, they are forgetting about GOW:A's multiplayer and coop that was added to the game which was totally new to the series.

Yeah both games added new things, but GoWJ has made a crazy number of changes, not saying they will all work, but to say it is adding nothing new is just flat out wrong.

I really want this game, but I just got Far Cry 3, Darksiders 2, and Starhawk. I really like the series, but for 60 dollars, it doesn't sound like AAA game. Kind of surprised that this is getting more praise than God of War, both seem to be last ditch efforts at milking the franchise in this gen.

There is like one genuinely new, class-based game mode and experimental changes made to the core gameplay. They are all very minor iterations on the established formula.

I only play through the single player of Gears anyway, I'll do it once it's a bit cheaper. I bought 1&2 day one, I bought 3 about six months after release. I'll probably wait a good 6 months on this too.

(Thankfully, the number of multi-player maps doesn't matter to meh, heheh)

If I were a huge fan, I'd buy it up front with those single player reviews. I've got too big a backlog right now though.

If you think these are minor changes then there is nothing they could do to changes things up. They are adding FFA, they took locusts out of mp, they removed DBNO from all but 1 mode, they changed the way grenades worked, they added 3 new types of grenades, they took out stopping power and active reload damage, they only let you carry 1 primary weapon now, you can use primary weapons with shields now, they added classes to the new horde mode and made it only 10 rounds instead of 50, they cut the range of the shotguns way down, they added a start system to sp, they added declassified missions to sp. I really cant think of a console shooter that has changed things more from 1 game to the next.

Played them all; enjoyed GOW 3 MP but got burned out and never went back. I like what I am hearing other than a few sour apples so I will eventually pick this up; just not now.

They should have given this game the Dark Arisen treatment.

Release the game and have it included Gears 3 base game and all the DLC + Judgement content. That way we could have at least gotten all the new weapons on the ton of maps released in Gears 3. Maybe even some pretty intense changes to GoW 3 base mechanics as well.

Basically this, or do it ODST style. That game had the entire Halo 3 MP, all the DLC and three new maps.

Judgement could have breathed new life into Gears 3, but instead, they decided to release a half hearted, flim flam effort of a game full of mindless changes that steer the game away from its roots.

Yeah, I'm a hypocrite....I'm gonna buy it and complain anyway. At the end of the day, I'm still a huge Gears fan.

I'm thinking of cancelling my preorder

Playing some overrun and I'm literally screaming at my teammates to stop running snipe classes and help me place turrets and repair the fucking wired gates.

Then comments like "lol fuck tickers" while everyone rockets Grenadiers and playing like garbage on Locust side.

Game feels like Gears 2...

After not liking Gears 3 much at all I thought I was completely done with the series but I'll definitely be giving this a go as I'm a fan of PCF and I'm very interested to see what changes they've made. They know how to do a fun campaign. 4 maps per mode does sound very low though.

I have had to ask a few people to stop playing as scouts. I see how in a few limited situations that might be a useful class, but when you have 2 or 3 in a group you are not stopping anyone. Really though I love that you need a good group to have success. Once we got a full group on Saturday we didnt lose a single match.

If my Gears buddies are getting it, i'm getting it as well. But i'm not taking the iniative.
4 Competetive maps is insane fucking ridiculous. And i don't like what i'm hearing about all the changes they made. No active reload damage boost? come one, that's part of gears core.

So there was controversy about the DoubleXP boost from season pass, and micro transactions for short XP boosts... and then Gametrailers review says that leveling up in multiplayer serves no actual purpose...

It never has in Gears, you will unlock some skins but that is it. It doesnt effect the game in any way. It is just for people that dont want to spend hundreds of hours getting up to level 100.

Active reload damage boost is dumb. Did you enjoy firing off shots at the beginning of every round to get that damage boost? How about firing off a few shots with your gnasher and reloading behind cover to get an advantage before you stormed out. The mechanic is dumb and has nothing to do with skill. I'm glad it's gone. They kept it in single-player, which is where it belongs.

This is reviewing pretty well.
Despite the praise I'm still finding it hard to get too hyped. I'll still probably pick this up day one. Campaign sounds interesting at least.

Well Level 50 is max now and with double Xp from the season pass it takes about 6-7 hours. That is not too bad.

Hell yeah, i loved it, it's what makes Gears Gears.

Yeah that sounds great. I played way over a hundred hours of Horde/Beast in 3 and I never even got to level 100. Even though the levels never atually meant anything it still sucked how slow it all was.

It's a less broken, less janky Gears 2. Bit still, anything comparable to Gears 2 is not good.

Me and Lunchbox were playing KoTH on Oldtown yesterday. Some dude on our team was going on about how the Gnasher sucks and that it's the worst weapon in the game. Sumbitch was SOSing and Retro chargin like it was 2011.

The repetition of the only 4 maps shit is really tired now because it's straight-up misinformation, as if that's all the game's really coming with. if you're mad with the way they're splitting the 8 + 2 maps, then so be it, but at least come correct.

I've had a blast with Overrun over the past two days, I would have never imagined it being so fun, and it got even better when I had four other friends playing with me and running strats. I knew I'd play it but it really took me by surprise.

Yeah... GoW:A is a game that gets nothing new to the franchise: 7/10

New Gears of War game, nothing new to the franchise, 4 maps: 9.2/10

Maybe you should try to read about the game you're mad about, because Judgment has not only had its core and all of the weapons totally revamped, but Overrun is completely new as well.

I redboxed god of war and gamefly just sent gears of war. I don't think I want to spend money on either of these games at this point. At least I'll be able to try the multiplayer with Gears. The changes don't sound good at all, but I'll give it a shot.

It is four tdm maps at launch is it not?.

The vast majority of players play TDM. TDM has 4 maps shipped. That's a fact.

That's what I'm saying - you have people legit asking if the game is shipping with 4 maps total when there are other maps for other modes.

Nothing wrong for being mad about 4 maps for TDM/Domination/FFA, but at least state that when you're complaining, because it's wrong otherwise.

Wall tagging is the worst thing introduced to the Gears franchise outside of the sawed off.
Hopefully they're both gone from the inevitable Gears 4.

Really? How else am I supposed to take on a team 4 to 1? Say my whole team is dead and I need to survive, that's when grenade wall tagging comes into play. Loved it. Otherwise they can just rush you and it's game over.

I love how Sessler been giving nearly every game he reviews a 3/5 since he joined Rev3.

Not saying he's wrong or anything. I actually prefer his style over the usual gushing. It's just funny.

The misinformation begins with the tweet from Jeff Gerstmann when he said that he was 'shocked' that there were only 4 competitive multiplayer maps.

This led to him claiming the price of the game should be $40 and that the Season Pass DLC felt 'slimy' in the same set of tweets.

The facts is not only does Judgement ship with 8 competitive multiplayer maps, the package is fairly comparable to what Gears of War 3 offered.

Here are the facts:

- Gears of War 3 shipped with 10 multiplayer maps

Checkout • Drydock • Gridlock • Hotel • Mercy • Old Town • Overpass • Sandbar • Thrashball • Trenches

- The Competitive multiplayer modes in GeOW3 consisted of Warzone, Execution, King of the hill, Wingman, Capture the Leader, and Team Deathmatch.

- The Cooperative Multiplayer modes in GeOW3 consisted of two modes Horde and Beast mode (Horde could be played on all maps)

Gears of War: Judgment ships with 8 multiplayer maps

Estate • Gondola • Island • Junkyard • Library • Rig • Skyline • Streets

- Two free maps (Haven and Capitol) can be downloaded for free on April 2nd.

For those keeping count there is a total of 10 multiplayer maps
without spending one dime on DLC or Season passes.

- People Can Fly's Gears of War Judgment is unlike previous games in the franchise as the game does NOT include the cooperative modes of Horde/Beast; meaning EVERY map in the game is used for Competitive Multiplayer.

Again to reiterate, Judgement consists only of Competitive multiplayer modes.

- The Competitive modes in Judgement consist of OverRun, Tam Deathmatch, Free-for-all, an Domination.

Additionally, Execution mode will return on the 2nd of April as well.

- The 2 DLC packs include 3 more maps a piece, which brings the entire collection to a total of 16 competitive multiplayer maps.

Summary.

8 shipped competitive multiplayer maps shipping with the game. 2 free maps (April 2). 16 total to include the two succeeding DLC packs.

Anyone saying that there are only 4 maps with the game are smply not telling the truth.
