BOMBA Pikachu 3DS XL $160 at Target on March 24th

It seems unlikely, but thanks for mentioning it because I'll call Tuesday am and ask. :)

I just bought the red XL online. I think I'll get one of those decals on etsy. If Nintendo decides to release an acceptable/nice one in the future, I'll just trade this thing in. :p

Guy said to call 9am, an hour before opening, because they'll have any stock by then.

Cross post from the pick ups thread, but really no regrets about picking this beauty up.

... I forgot to mention, I called a few stores across the country where my parents live and found one. By the time my mom got there, of course it was gone. Why the hell did Nintendo do such a limited run? It's like they're saying fuck you to prospective 3DS owners with their terrible color choices.

I can relate. It's frustrating. Selling out seemingly everywhere before noon the day it comes out? It almost feels as if they're trying to leave money on the table. Or, perhaps the lack of variety is to lure you into double dipping at a later date. Regardless, I'm very happy with the blue one.

The way Nintendo handled this release is pathetic.

First of all:

NoA: HEY GUYS! Guess what!? You know that Limited Edition Pikachu 3DS XL that you've been clamoring for? Well it's releasing in a week. Enjoy!

Point - Surprise releases are horrible. The fact that we didn't even know that it was releasing here in North America until a week or so prior is inexcusable. Give people a little warning next time? Not everyone can drop $200+ on something immediately.

NoA: Oh, and you know this release? Well, supplies are extremely limited. Pre-order/Check with your favorite retailer as soon as possible to ensure that this one doesn't escape from your Pokeball!

Point - Why did they release this in such low numbers? Surely they must have seen the demand for it [it's a 3DS XL with Pikachu's face on it, how could it not sell?]. The fact that most retailers only received 4-5 of them speaks volumes. I understand the need to make some things limited, but to couple this with a "surprise launch" as well? It's super effective!

I really wanted this 3DS XL, but since it released here so suddenly [I had already spent my disposable income for the month on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Tomb Raider, among other things] and it's already sold out virtually everywhere, unless they do a reprint [which is unlikely] it seems as though I'll be without.

Sorry Nintendo. I wanted to give you my money, I really did [as did many others, I'm sure].

Here at my Walmart, they have 2 Pikachu systems left as well as red & blue (4-5 each).

I have no regrets on picking up Pikachu. The system makes me smile whenever I look at him.

Ooh nice, a way to have a XL FE system.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's a damn shame and peculiarly baffling. I wouldn't mind if they dropped a new LE monthly / bi-monthly.

Personally is rather pay the extra money for a regular XL.

Limited edition consoles have just no appeal to me.

Good reason for people to get into an XL though.

Went to gamestop and they only got 2 in, got the last one and used a gift card i got to help with the price. Also downloaded the pokemon Meloetta event as today was the last day to get it.

A good reason is that Pikachu XL is 160 today. In a year you could probably sell it for double that. I did that with the Zelda 3DS. That'll never happen with Red/Blue.

Well, it's $300 on Amazon right now. Some on eBay are selling for a similar price.

So basically Nintendo releases such a small quantity that people who are truly interested have very little chances of getting it unless paying exorbitant prices. What the hell is Nintendo thinking? It really makes me not want to buy things from them in the future. I have enough disposable income to buy a Wii U for example and it's this kind of shit that makes me decide a definite no.

Edit:
Meanwhile, launch Wii Us continue to gather dust in the same store. Fucking NOA.

Went to my local EB Games to pick one up this morning. They only got 2 units of the Pikachu 3DS, both of which were reserved for people who pre-ordered.

So I left empty handed.

Reggie should really get the boot. Too many terrible business tactics in the past couple years.

I was wondering if the shitty Target supplies was Target's fault or Nintendo's, but it's now looking more and more like Nintendo didn't send much of any to any retailer. Regardless of sale. It's almost as if they don't want to sell their hardware or games (Fire Emblem shortage still in effect).

The way they're handling it you'd almost think it was a limited quantity special Pikachu 3DS XL.

I'm thinking the allotment that North America got were simply "leftovers" from other Countries. That's probably why there's so few.

I mean, I still see some stores that have the Fire Emblem 3DS in-stock, and that was "Limited" as well. The Pikachu 3DS XL is ridiculously low, there's no reason for stores to be getting 2 units in and that's it.

Limited edition doesn't mean, "Here's a few thousand, good luck getting one.". It's like the Zelda 3DS, the Fire Emblem 3DS, Halo 4 360 etc. They have brief but significant production runs. The goal is to maximize sales, not piss off consumers on day 1 of its release.

It's funny because the real Pokemon game fans have been clamoring for isn't out for another six months or so. On top of that, the franchise isn't as big as it was in the Game Boy days.

It's not a sales-booster bundle, it's a special color with limited appeal. If you find any FE 3DSs it's likely because nobody was buying them.

And if I can't buy a Pikachu XL today it's because Nintendo didn't ship them. That's horrible business. Pokemon is limited appeal now? Sorry, not buying it.

You didn't bother ordering online at Target, Toys r Us, or gamestop?

Nope, your fault if you don't get one.

I'm always confused on why people complain about a Limited Edition system being limited.

There's limited, and then there's showing up when the store opens and the fuckers not selling me a system because they only received 2 for pre-orders only.

I picked up a Star Wars 360 months after it was released, no problem. Same with the Zelda 3DS two years ago.

Whose fault was it when people couldn't walk into a store and buy a copy of Fire Emblem? Correct me if I'm wrong but it's in Nintendo's best interest to sell as many of these things as possible, right? 3DS is struggling everywhere but Japan, so one would think they'd want to satisfy consumers that don't pre-order as well. It's good for business.

Those aren't really limited though. Those are fairly common..

Chrom bought. Will go even better with my Blue XL than the red one in this picture.

Take some pictures and post thoughts on how it is. How easy it is to apply, what modifications, if any, you needed to do, etc.

Mostly images to see the quality. I'm worried it'll peel off over time.
