Wii sports was what sold the wii to most people, surely it's coming ?

Nintendo franchise mini games don't appeal to people who just wanted to play wii tennis , bowling , baseball etc

The best I think Nintendo can do for the Wii U and try to mimic the DS's success. It's in a similar position. And DS had some pretty bad, casual commercials. These Wii U commercials are as casual as they can possibly get, which I don't think will hurt the system. I agree it may not help much now, especially without having much of a library, but it will clarify some misinformation. Not really a bad thing.

But yeah, cheesy as hell.

These aren't going to win over anyone on the fence and it makes Nintendo look teh kiddyz. Also, the last frame is a banner ad for God's sake. Just...c'mon, Nintendo.

Not gonna comment on the actual ads since so many have chimed in already but what I do wanna mention is this is why Nintendo is considered "kiddie". People get railed on when they mention that but Nintendo is the one perpetuating this "family/kiddie" theme. All of their marketing has been geared towards it. All three ads had little kids in them and they were the focus in all of them. And saying "family means everyone, not just kids!" is disingenuous. You know what people mean when they say family/kid games.

By the way, I'm not saying this is a poor strategy (it isn't). I'm just commenting on what type of demographics they're targeting.

At least, they're sorta kinda trying to identify a target market with these. I mean, it's not going to work. But for a product that is neither for casual nor hardcore, they're at least trying to zero in on families who think video games are something to keep their five year olds busy.
This.

Thats a 5 person game where the person with the pad has a different role and view screen within the multiplayer game. It's pretty awesome actually and odd that you would have the completely wrong idea.

Now why couldn't Nintendo use angles like this in their Wii-U advertising campaign? Instead of telling us how different their new console is repeatedly over and over again, why don't they show us these awesome five player games where one person takes on a different role from the rest of the players? It would give "uninformed" people like me a completely different perspective on the console.

So this ad reminded me of an old ad. Of course when i searched on Youtube for that ad on the new Wii U videos showed up as well.

What was that ad?

The whole thing just reeks of desperation.

Dude... under $50 for one button old school retro gaming?

Desperate Nintendo is the best Nintendo.

This line of reasoning always struck me as a sort of last-defense of the die hard fan. "Beast mode" and all that. The worse things get for Nintendo, the more optimistic we should be, as a linear function, yes?

Just read the last few pages... they're not THAT bad, come on. They remind me a lot of the Walmart ads, which isn't a bad template to use at all. These ads obviously aren't for us. Try to look at them in the perspective of who they're targeting.

"It's important for them to have that as part of their childhood".

Seems like you hit the nail on the head perfectly.

Those ads are horrible. Just trying to reinforce the idea that videogames are for kids. I hate that.
Well, games are marketed for audiences of all kinds. For every child- or family-centric commercial, there can be one more geared towards adults.

Then again, I find pretty much all game commercials to seem juvenile in nature. When I saw commercials for Battlefield 4 and Bioshock Infinite, I thought they were really goofy. Video games are harder to play off as "cool" than people think. I real can't stand most game advertisements.

The Wii was definitely geared towards kids and families more than anyone else, and that console was tremendously successful. You can't blame Ninty for trying to go down that route again.

In general, Nintendo has been trying to appeal to "everyone" for a while now. It's just part of what the company is.

Lmao @ "upgrading" in bright yellow.

At least they're emphasizing harder it's a new system. And yet they still keep showing only the gamepad.

Showing the system won't do jack.

My friend actually played it, like actually was playing it with a bunch of others. And the only thing she noticed was that it was black.

She switched Wii systems with a family member that didn't have the GCN ports on it. It also was black. She asked me if she could get the controller for her Wii.

Overbranding things with the Wii moniker is what did the name in.

At least they're finally trying to get the message across that it's a new system. They just need to focus even more on it. The Wii U name was such a bad idea. It's making Nintendo have to spend money just to clear up confusion it has caused.

Terrible commercials overall, though.

Where's your proof? If you cannot back this statement, you are in no position to say this.

Let me remind you we have never even seen such console exist nor have we seen the PS4/720's price tags.

Obviously suggesting nobody would purchase a fictional WiiU, with similar specification to the ps4/720, was an exaggeration. What i mean is, it would probably pull numbers similar to the gamecube or worse. Obviously we don't know the exact pricing of the ps4/360 but we have seen educated guesses.

If you want proof, i can only provide past history as an indication. The gamecube sold less than the xbox, by only a small margin and both were destroyed by the ps2. The nintendo 64 also was mauled by the playstation in terms of comparative sales.

These consoles had similar specifications.

So I have a family

...I still found all of those incredibly uncomfortable to watch :(

you ain't apart of the demographic they're targeting just because you have a kid. this is targeting uninformed parents, probably those who don't even play games themselves and just want to see loved ones happy.

"The graphics are a huge upgrade."

"Nintendo does thing so differently."

"I may ditch my other consoles for Wii U."

If this is indeed Nintendo's attitude right now....they are going to get fucking laughed off stage at E3.
