New trailer for Beyond: Two Souls - PS3's swan song?

Looks really good. If this game doesn't get a PS4 version, then I might have to break my rule of not spending money on a full-priced video game before next-gen explodes my wallet.

A lot of the environments don't look good to me because of the IQ and the character modeling is often uncanny valley. I really don't like their end result most of the time compared to say The Last of Us or Crysis. The delivery of the acting seems better than Heavy Rain though so I'm interested.

I don't see how this is any worse than any other video game on the market, the VA is solid.

HOLY SHIT! That's all I gotta say!

Do players really control that hand to hand combat? That was awesome! I've actually been waiting for a game that'll let me fight like that for a long time now - ever since the first Uncharted trailer back in 2005.

And this dude is a master troll or someone with issues.

The woman giving birth
, the directing, and the fucking return of puppet show QTEs (goddamn sixaxis? fucking really?) were absolutely awful.

Face animation is incredible. Environments look really off to me, like someone forgot to hire an art director. Lighting is good though.

That said, the general plot, characters, structure, and the ghost buddy mechanics interest me about 10 times more than Heavy Rain already.

I think Cage is one of the most insufferable, pretentious windbags in the business, but if he and his team manage to make an actual Adventure game this time instead of Act 2 of Improv Dinner Theater at the Waffle House, I'll stay interested.

That trailer was intense. Never got around to play Heavy Rain, but maybe that was for the better. This however I'll get my hands on asap.

That's my main concern. The game looks great and very intense too, but will it be an actual game or a glorified interactive cutscene? We'll see, this is from the first hour of the game so it's surely to early to decide.

I actually thought it did a pretty great job overcoming that. Not perfect by any means but about the closest I've ever seen in a video game.

Eh... really could have used the L.A. Noire face tech or something similar. Looking at this after having seen that, it just can't compare.

okay so i just watched it. i'm sure a lot of it is weird taken out of context, but there aren't a whole lot of lines that scream they're better than heavy rain or kara. on the plus side, the voice talent sounds overall like an improvement.

i think the worst part about the trailer is just where it premiered and how it further expands david cage's already overinflated hubris.

Definitely.

I watched the trailer, and also watched the "35 minutes of gameplay" that was on YouTube. There's still plenty of Cagejank, some really poor direction and a pretty goddamn awful scene in just that 35 minutes, but the voice performances and performance capture are certainly improved overall. The game seems pretty much the same as HR mechanically, despite Cage saying that there aren't QTEs... I'm pretty sure I saw quite a few. They weren't as jumbled as HR's but they're there nevertheless.

A good friend of mine is buying a PS3 this summer just to play Last of Us and Beyond. PS3 ain't going away any time soon.

Just watched about 15 minutes on the stream. Wow. The gameplay really is just the absolute bare minimum of interaction here, one single action QTE and two branching conversations. I'd heard people criticize these games as being barely interactive cutscenes, but I had no idea. I'm actually shocked.

That said, it seems interesting and I've never played any of this dude's games. And it's fucking gorgeous. So it's a choose your own adventure, I'll give it a shot.

watch the first 15-30 minutes of indigo prophecy. there's a lot of really clever stuff there. i don't know if it was a designer who left the team, or if it was the only good idea david cage ever had, but a game designed like that could have been fucking awesome, even with god-awful writing.

I think Airtight's Murdered Soul Suspects is supposed somewhat to be akin to this, albeit with much more gameplay. I'll look forward to that instead.

This seems like the same old, same old from Cage. City stuff looks like Indigo Prophecy redux.

It must feel terrible to have to work on a game like this and put in a bunch of effort on stuff when the script is so bad.

Ghosts are pretty dumb. Just about everything in the extended session seemed super binary but thank goodness there is always a ghost to save the day. The Geist stuff is so out of place too.

You say that as if 99% of the video game industry's workforce wasn't working on Facebook /iOS games or Generic Dance Game #69 instead of AAA behemoths such as GTA or Assassin's Creed

Those can be mechanically fun or interesting. Can this?

No. It was a rhetorical question.

People working on some of those games seem to be really, really happy.

Yea, that's a pretty dumb reason to feel "terrible" about your job. It was featured at the Film Festival, I'm sure a lot of people are pretty excited.

And that's not how working in the industry works... you are generally proud of all your projects depending on if the area you worked on was good quality. I've had a teacher that was proud of their work on the Alvin Chipmunk movies because they utilized really good lighting probe technology and great hdri usage.

I don't know how Sony have done it but my wife started questioning me about "the next game from the Heavy Rain people" and I have never mentioned to her that this is coming out. Heavy Rain was one of the few games we have played through together multiple times,I think there is definitely something about this type of game that has legs for a wider audience.

Also I may be thinking to much into this, but at the end they seem to be going to lengths to saying "only on PlayStation" not specifically just Ps3 (although box art and console are ps3). Not sure if this is a wider approach by don't now to strengthen the PlayStation brand or it hints that the game will also be coming to PS4 in time too?
