I'll be playing this game on my PS4....maybe in 2-3 years but it will happen.

And does anyone else think this won't be a system seller? I mean yeah 360 owners usually prefer shooters (I do) but are people really expecting this to compete with COD/BF4/Gears/Halo?

Nah, I agree. I think it'll sell decently, but it wont be this big huge thing that the media seem to be expecting. People outside of gaming forums don't have a clue who Respawn are.

Good acquisition. Indication of EA's continuing philosophy as games-as-a-service. I wonder if there will be a subscription attached to the game.

I hope this isn't Microsoft's philosophy across the board.

Strange how 3 of the most hyped third party games of next gen (Respawn's, Destiny and Watch_Dogs) are always online and the latter two are getting overwhelmingly positive reactions from fans yet it's the complete opposite for when always online is considered in isolation. More evidence always-online isn't a big deal for gamers if they want the games that bad I guess. I certainly hope this doesn't add to SimCity and Diablo III as precedents for the industry.

I mean, Destiny makes sense, it's essentially an MMO. Watch_Dogs kind-of contextualizes it because it's the foundation of what the game is about, but we don't know the full story yet. I wonder what this game's justification is.. and hopefully it's not just an excuse for DRM but something interesting.

I'm sure this is one of many in MS's attempt to find the next big IP for next gen. Should dispel thoughts that they are abandoning gaming next gen.

I believe I predicted the Respawn thing in an E3 thread somewhere, though it could just be timed exclusivity for all we know...or not at all. They just went too long without any news and it seems like a perfect fit. That's not gonna be the big news though. I really think Valve bringing Steam/DOTA 2/Half Life 3 to the table is going to be Microsoft's ace in the hole.

After watching that pacific rim trailer the concept sounds super cool.

Seems really bizarre that an EA published game would be exclusive to one console. Even if its not a true EA game, still seems kind of crazy.

Does make me wonder if any other EA games end up platform exclusive by one side or the other throwing gobs of money at them.

This could be awesome. Maybe we'll get a sneak peak on May 21st to announce the partnership, and a full reveal a few weeks later at E3?

Also, if the game is multiplayer only, I find it funny that they have to clarify that it's "always online". No shit it would be.

The new Respawn game, one of our sources tells us, is made on a modified version of Valve's Source engine, not on internal EA tech. The source believes the game looks very good on Durango but not as good as EA's internally-made Battlefield 4. That source also says that Respawn is only working on the Durango version of the game and is hand-picking a studio to make the 360 edition.

What.

This is huge, I have a feeling this could be bigger than Destiny and be MS big new IP similar to Gears. As a person who is going to get a PS4 I'm gonna miss out, oh well it's not like I am short of shooters to play.

Since when is Watch_Dogs always online?

It's rumored in the article. Not that they've abandoned it completely (obviously) but that some projects have been canceled.

I expect one of those is the Obsidian title. Not sure how many others they could have realistically cancelled seeing as se haven't heard about any other cancellations.

Another tells us that Microsoft recently cancelled several internal next-gen projects because they were not coming together as hoped. These sources have told us that, comparatively, Sony is in better shape and further along with hardware and software development for PlayStation 4.

Not sure how much sense it would make to have a game like this being a timed exclusive though (depending of course for how long time it would be exclusive). If they plan to iterate hard on the IP I would say a sequel going multi-plat seems more likely.

Unless Microsoft is helping with development, this is a boneheaded decision that leaves copious amounts of money on the table. This is Epic and their Gears decision all over again. Leaving millions of potential software sales on the table.

Lost interest there. At least MS isn't trying to ditch their dude bro image of a shooter box. So always on like Defiance?

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
This can mean a lot or it can mean nothing at all - Respawn Studios means nothing to nobody who isn't already intently tied to the industry, and there's no guarantee their game will even captivate a large audience. They can put "From the makers of Call of Duty" on the box (can they do that?), but again this doesn't guarantee sales.

Since Destiny had "From the makers of Halo", I'm fairly certain they can say that for this. And I would say that will definitely push units, it just takes the gamestop clerk to tell Joe Bro the makers of CoD made this to get the preorder.

The new game from Respawn is a futuristic multiplayer-centric online shooter, one of our sources says. The source describes the game as a battle of Davids and Goliaths. The Davids are heavily-armed foot soldiers. The Goliaths are the giant exosekeltons—Titans—that these soldiers can pilot. These Titans are big mech-style walkers that move with an agility not seen in games like Mechwarrior or Steel Battalions.

I was a bit worried about losing something interesting due to exclusivity, but I think I can feel relieved now.

Eh... doesn't sound like a game I'd be particularly interested in, even though it's a big coup for MS. If that's the EA exclusivity deal then it'll have no bearing whatsoever on what console I want.

I hope it's good but honestly I never got into the Call of Duty shit either, lowest common denominator pap, but I reserve 'megaton' type commentary for news that is actually a megaton

This so many times.

"Though the company revealed in February that it would give Sony's PlayStation 4 first crack at downloadable content for Destiny, the next game from Bungie Studios, the former Xbox-only makers of Halo."

Now we know why Destiny/ PS4 is getting timed DLC. Anyways i'm interested in the Respawn game. It's sci fi and mech based so it doesnt seem like "just another shooter". We'll see.
