Oh, there will be sales spikes when games release. Just hardware though, not software.

Has that ever happened with any console, ever?

The PS1,PS2,PSP, and the DS among others have all been easy to hack, and they all had decent software sales spikes.

Dont see it ass a bad thing. Get android on it open up to the market place. Nintendo>ouya

That's not what this does, or even hints that it could be done in the future.

Joke's on them, there's no games for them to pirate.
wii u has no games hurdurrrr
Can we stop with this bullshit ? it's neither funny, true, or clever and certainly not original.

It was the same shit everywhere during the Ps3/3ds/vita's first year and it's tiring.

Okay, this got a new thread, before things get outlandish, let me put this into perspective (OP feel free to steal this)

This device will...

Allow 1:1 backups only (no hacked/cheated games)

This device will not...

Enable homebrew
Help hackers break the Wii U's game or system encryptions
Allow cheaters to hack online games

This device PROBABLY will not...

Allow for region free (unless Nintendo forgot to give seperate regions different encryption keys, again)

No hombrew

hey now, backups can be a good thing too... but yeah, homebrew would be awesome... the things people would come up with for the controller!

Well yes, it can be used for good things, but it could not either. It is kind of sad, I have friends that buy legit copies for the 3ds (and one of those have a WiiU) but they are waiting for the moment someone enables piracy so they can stop paying for most games (I'm sure they would pay one favorite games or two, but that's it)
I even had one friend drop legit games on his PS3 altogether recently. Sad day.

Doesn't seem to be many facts here, just a statement. Unless I'm missing something.

I'm reading it but it doesn't make me feel any better at all. I don't want anything cracked on the hardware I paid money for. I don't want there to be anything and I mean anything that is going to jeopardized (even a smell of jeopardizing) the little support there is for the Wii U among developers and publishers. I don't want there to be anything to even spark a concern, even if it's unfounded, in regard to the limited 3rd party support we do have. Or anything that could possible lead to something else worse.

WTF Nintendo! :(

Needs more homebrew and region free before I'd consider it.

The Wii homebrew scene was just awesome. Playing all games ripped to an external HDD with improved load times, no region lock and other fixes in place was the way it's meant to be played... until Dolphin came along. :D

If I can get something similar for the WiiU, I'd be a happy camper.

...hate me...
I remember soldering a Wiikey back in the day for Super Paper Mario NTSC-U, since Ninety fudged the Euro launch during a critical draught no less.

Good times.

I feel this is bad for the Wii U, but then again who knows. I think all successful consoles were widely hacked at some point.

Fuck this. I'm all for allowing region locks and homebrew applications, but I hate the fact it'll allow cheaters to go into games.

Cheaters killed the DS and Wii online systems (along with friend codes) and made most online games for those platforms unplayable unless with friends. This fucking sucks.

EDIT: I read some of the posts on this page of the thread and if it truly doesn't allow cheaters or encourage piracy I'm fine with it. But the fact this is created means that it's only a short while until cheaters and piracy do become an issue, which sucks.

They say is an fpga so it will be easily updated. I guess no matter if they patch via software, if they are attacking the hardware Nintendo can't do shit.

There only one point missing: from the description, it seems to have some UI for selecting games. If it doesn't hack the actual Wii U OS, how does it work?

So basically it only allows for pirating ("backups")? what a bunch of crap

Pretty much.

The statement does come from a fairly reliable source though.

It would certainly seem that way then. Regarding the OP update too, it is nice that it can't be used in a manipulative way, but rather just for convenience. The USB storage thing was rather restrictive.

So people are going to start using this, backing up their games, and inevitably realize they can sell them back to the stores. Great.

This is pretty awful. The only thing I support is region free gaming.

Without region free, this mod will be pretty pointless to me. Not that there are any games in other regions at the moment yet which I'd like to import anyway.
