Does the Wii U allow game installs like PS360 or not? I'm curious.
Then buy the digital version off of the eShop! It's not like the option isn't there like on the Wii. The digital version is released right along side the physical copy outside of a few launch day hold outs. There is no need to "back up" a game now. Either rebuy it or just buy it digitally from the start.
I don't see the big deal here.
Most if not all systems have been or will be hacked. It's practically inevitable.
The problem is that the system already sees little to no support, and early fears of piracy will not make things easier for developers to consider the Wii U as a viable platform.
So this is like the first Xbox 360 hack in which you could only play pirated retail games?

He's talking about modifying the drives firmware. That was long before you could even back games up to the hard drive. You still need a real retail disk to back up to the hdd. Although, I guess, once the games are on the HDD, then you could simply copy the games directly from there, upload them etc...
I can't sell the digital version. When I've had enough of a game. Can delete it fron the HDD and sell it to buy more games.
If the DD version was half priced to begin with I'd be tempted but stupidly, it's full retail price.
It would be nice if that damn eShop was proactive enough to at least do regular sales and price cuts on disc games though. Most of the launch stuff can be bought on amazon for far less than the $60 the eShop continues to demand for each title.
Joke's on them, there's no games for them to pirate.

Yes. It's so stupid. They would do well to adopt the Steam model and have regular sales. They also need to change the frankly moronic position that the account is tied to the unit and not to the account.
I've bought a fair bit on DD on WiiU and it worries me if the machine dies I've lost the lot.
Why can't it be as easy to play imports as in the old
days?
Surely in that case you can buy a foreign console to play them on?
i wouldn't be surprised if nintendo started rolling piratebay seeds in to their shipped figures.
At least it won't affect third party support too much.
I really like the idea of ripping my discs to a drive, it felt weird going back to optical media.
I think it's funny thoughwii u has no games hurdurrrr
Can we stop with this bullshit ? it's neither funny, true, or clever and certainly not original.
It was the same shit everywhere during the Ps3/3ds/vita's first year and it's tiring.

The hack was created by a company that sells their own modchips/hardware keys. It's possible that they cracked the Wii U open like an oyster, but they're not interested in making CFW available to the public as that would make their products obsolete.I'm mostly interested in knowing how they managed to do all this reverse engineering. They said that the file system is decrypted, does this mean that custom firmware is possible?
Woah even before the 3DS

DS flashcards still work on 3DS. Basically, everytime the 3DS gets an update to block them, the flashcard get updated too a few days later.3DS' security is YEARS ahead of WiiU's
WiiU's backward compatibility was hacked basicaly from day one and it is still there ... DS flashcards where stopped so fast in 3DS that wasn't even funny

Just so people know this literally only enables piracy. Nothing else.
I'll grant that that's largely what it facilitates. But saying that's literally the only thing it does ignores that some people are legitimately interested in format swapping. Maybe that strikes you as a bunch of malarkey, and that's fine. But personally, I would be interested in having all my games available on the hard drive.
They eShop prices are up to the publisher to change. Any publisher can discount their game at any moment. If the game is $1 in stores and $60 on the eShop that was the publishers choice. Nintendo does not control eShop pricing for other companies.
Yeah, this is about making profit on the WiiUkey thing indeed, so it makes sense why they dont release any info on how to use custom firmware. The hack was created by a company that sells their own modchips/hardware keys. You'll have to wait for someone to reverse engineer the WiiKey, probably.
True, but they said that the reversed all those things. That means that they have been able to decrypt the things, so it could mean that custom firmware is possible, but that they wont release any info on it because they want to make money on selling that WiiUkey thing instead.Did people even read the OP? No homebrew. No region free gaming. They still can't do anything yet. It's like how the 3DS was "hacked" but not really

this
I wish people would finally understand that Nintendo does not dictat any prices on 3rd party software on eshop.
plus Ubisoft did have a sale lately. All ubisoft games (AC3, Rabbits, ZombiU) were discounted at 29.90
That is true, but it wont be of much help if the software sales doesnt increase as well. I think that Nintendo is losing money on the WiiU console sale itself, so only increasing those sales wont do much good if the software sales isnt increasing as well.Typically exploits help hardware sales that Nintendo oh so desperately needs right now.
So, is the sentiment that Nintendo has a completely hands-off approach wherein they are unable to organize sales promotions within their own store? I don't think many suspect that Nintendo has the authority to just arbitrarily decide what other publishers' games should cost and should have Steam-like holiday sales all the time. But that doesn't mean that they can't be more aggressive in trying to move product in their store.
but they do have sales all the time. in both, the WiiU - and the 3DS eshop.
also the promotions for new games and the games on sale are pretty damn good (on the WiiU eshop at least).
