It's weird how the sorceress is causing such a controversy now, and not when she was first revealed what... a year ago?
2 years ago iirc. No one gave a shit until Kotaku complained.

Nothing in Borderlands posted so far is remotely in the same ballpark.

Is that ChemicalAlia? Oh hey it is.
I know all that, I still don't think it's meant to be a parody or a caricature, though. Parodies and caricatures imply criticism and subversion for me, which - I think - is not the intent here.
To be fair, the game's hyper-exaggerated tits are of questionable taste.
Some juvenile delinquent kid in my 5th grade class used to draw girls that looked like that (only without the creepy blank, featureless samefaces and wizard hats), and I think he was actually better at it. I also think he's in jail now.
It's definitely still a caricature. Even if the reason is for style rather than as a comment.
Yeah, he said parody and followed it up with caricature, which led to me misunderstanding. We've cleared it up on the last page.Caricature is exaggeration.
Intent, execution and subsequent reader response are secondary to it.
That is, criticism and subversion are not implicit qualities.
Hope he wasn't one of the "artists" that ripped off Olly Moss designs for the Collector's edition box art.
As though people don't talk that way all the time online and in real life, at least among friends. Are we pretending to be scandalized by a touch of hyperbole now?You move way past calling it questionable when you start saying things like this
It doesn't matter if it's her work or not. It's work from a company she is or was a part of (she obviously has seen it), that she neglects to address the same way as she did for the other work for a company that she didn't work for.Not her work.
If you want to discredit her argument as hypocritical, at least criticise her work and not someone else's.
Then stop comparing the quality of her artwork with other people's work.
http://shaylynhamm.com/118242/1165171/artwork/personal-3d-and-source-modsDoes this artist do character designs or is it strictly environments?
Just curious what her style is if she draws characters. (Genuinely)

When you've never been with a woman cleavage and mild burlesque look a lot like sinewy, heaving child-tits.
I don't think the artist's comments are worth a shitstorm. Not by a long shot. You can say whatever you like, but people shouldn't act shocked when there's an extreme negative reaction to it. That's exactly what happened to Jason when he called Kamitani a 14 year old and suggested that he was drawing a lolicon fantasy.
I just wish people would discuss it in a civil way. Just saying the artist is 14 or in 5th grade, or 'fucking lol' doesn't MEAN anything. If you don't like it, fine, but try to bring it up in a mature manner.

Only a virgin could mix up the sexualization in Borderlands with the sexualization in Dragon's Crown....? What are you talking about?

Gearbox's environmental artist Shaylyn Hamm posted the following in regards to Dragon's crown
She was posting in an internet forum. If you look at the responses here on gaf (most of which haven't even bothered to get the gender of the commentator right), you'll see the approximate level of discourse required.

So...her character designs are based on herself.
Fucking lol?
You would think an artist would be more accepting of all types of art but I guess thats not the case here.

It was a throwaway remark on a forum. It's not like she held a press conference to officially denounce the art style in her capacity as a professional.Any comment from someone in the industry about this game is going to cause a shitstorm because the Kotaku reaction caused a lot of gamers to become extremely pissed/annoyed.
Criticism = censorship?Ugh. Why are artists trying to censor other artists?
