Super Mario World |OT| Did you ever see a dinosaur fly?

There's a kid in the SMW miiverse complaining about his parents fighting and asking for help. Does Nintendo have to act on posts like that? sorry for being slightly ot.

I can beat this game 100% in under three hours, but it is a blast. Bought it on Wii U but it's hard to play after being so accustomed to NSMBU, that game really is some damn tight platforming. Also miss some of the tweaks they made to the GBA version, which is ultimately the definitive version in my eyes.

The continent overworld went a long way to making SM World feel like a world. That's something the NSMB games haven't done (although I have played U). NSMB went back to a Mario 3 style game. I miss the World feel, though. :(

U does this and it's glorious.

It's been ages since I played World, so I decided to fork over € 8. It's still amazing.

And I'm still horrible at it, hehe. Saw the game over screen twice.

*sighs*..
Pterosaurs are not dinosaurs, they're pterosaurs. It's true. Common misconception.

EDIT:
I'm impressed, Raist beat me to it, did not expect that.

I started a new save to play the game a little bit more similar to how I first played it. Basically, making it harder by going the long course in levels with shortcuts as well as not hitting the color blocks. Be kinda like playing it like how I used to as a kid, before I knew of these shortcuts/helps.

Suffered my first death of this file in Roy's Castle, these snake blocks are a lot smaller than they are in the games that followed and it was my downfall.

I wish you could play as Luigi without having to be player 2. Hrm.

Also, new icon on Miiverse for Year of Luigi.

Does it really matter? Start a two player game, transfer all of Mario's lives to Luigi, kill Mario, bam. You're Luigi.

I'm 24 years old, i had a NES but the SNES was my first real experience as a gamer, I got it with Super Mario World and All Stars, I played those Mario games for AGES.

I still think Nintendo did a better game with Mario Galaxy 2, but MG2 might as well be called the best game ever made.

I just beat this game for the first time a couple of hours ago.

I agree, it's one of the best games ever.

It's so good! I'm not going to stop playing it any time soon. I know there's lots of secrets I know nothing about.

Been playing this again, and it's still great and all. But i... kinda prefer NSMBU. The mechanics of it just feel better.

I can't be the only one, right?

Has Nintendo implemented the discount thing where you can buy NES and SNES games cheaper if you already have them on Wii VC?

Yep. It shows automatically on the Wii U eShop if the game is in your Wii Mode already.

Got SMW for $1.50!

Still love SMW, but I kind of agree. The mechanics in NSMBU are a little better, and the level designs are a lot denser and more varied, I feel. SMW has the edge in some ways though, like the branching paths are more interestingly crafted, and Star Road/Special Zone are just amazing. NSMBU's Star World doesn't even come close, imo. SMW also has more novelty stages than NSMBU, and those are always a lot of fun.

I think this applies mostly to the second half of NSMBU though, as I still believe the first half is a bit weak.

Yeah, the secret paths and the special worls are better (but not by that much), but then NSMBU's challenge mode kinda makes up for it for me.

NSMBU might just be the very best 2D Mario game, the main thing it's got going against it is the NEW style. This makes the game feel like a retread in many ways, whereas SMW felt like something new and fresh and to this day is still unique in the series in quite some ways.

If Nintendo made another 2D Mario with a completely new art-style and music but with the overall quality of NSMBU, it would be heralded as the best 2D Mario game ever.

It wouldn't, everyone would say it sucked (without playing it) and would just play FIFA/COD.

They still should have changed the style of the music at least.

How did I miss an OT to this wonderful game? By now I'm already done:

It looks really, really good on my HDTV. From this playhthrough I learned:

  • The game is harder than I remembered
  • Tubular is a lot easier than I remembered. Finished it on the first try.
  • I forgot how to finish the last Star World level without Blue Yoshi/Cape.
  • I can't do the secret exit on Cheese Bridge with a cape anymore. Used Yoshi instead.
  • The level design is superb.
  • Jumping on everything with the spin jump is a lot of fun.

Still love this game.

Uh, I didn't either. I'm pretty sure it doesn't mention that in the Mario Mania Player's Guide, which I read from cover to cover in my youth. But that does make that swallowing sound effect even more logical than it did before.

NSMBU is great but a couple of annoyances make it harder to enjoy than the older games.

Main one is that levels with secret exits aren't marked, so you end up looking in a faq to see which ones they are; I can look for secret exits myself if I know there is one there, but I am not going to waste time looking in levels where there's nothing (unless there's something I missed that indicates a secret exit).

Second is that the pocket for items is too small; should be SMB3 sized.

Third is not being able to carry yoshi with you once you finish a level.

Yeah, this sucked. Mario World's method was perfect, I had hoped NSMBU would do the same. It's why I never felt bad about looking up which levels had two exits in NSMBU.

I have completed this so many times, collected all the coins, speedruns and whatever. So good. And that soundtrack rules. And oh, SPECIAL stages goddamn, platforming awesomeness.

The first platformer I beated totally by my own (land and SMB2 I had help from my uncle when I was smaller) and my favourite 2D platfromer from all time.
The ragtime soundtrack (and best castle theme in the series), yoshi, the cape (best flying mario item), the secret exits, the world map, the perfect controls...
The game is amazing.

I have a perfect beat save of the game in the GBA version, with all the yoshi and peach coins with Mario and with Luigi, 96 stages beaten, mounted on a blue yoshi, with a cape and and the feather item in the box, 99 bonus points, 999 lives, 99 coins and 9,999,990 score (the max).

I still remember those summers and christmas playing it on my uncle's super nintendo, that and Illusion of Time.

This game doesn't look "lived in" enough. It's a shame that Nintendo is putting so little effort into a sequel to the greatest game ever [/sarcasm]
