Reggie and Miyamoto to Host Pre-E3 Presentation, unknown if livestreamed

Maybe we'll see a schedule along the lines of this:

Sunday Night - Nintendo Direct Debut trailers of Mario U, Mario Kart, "Surprise" software reveal like Retro's game and/or Wii Sports U. Hosted by Iwata.

Tuesday Morning - Reggie & Miyamoto host a bunch of live demos for the press, livestreamed.

Tuesday-Weds: Smaller Nintendo Directs throughout the day on third party games, eShop/indie games, 3DS etc. Maybe a Tuesday Night N-Direct developer roundtable.

Wednsday Night - Nintendo Direct big reveal of Smash Bros.

eShop constantly updated with videos and demos from the show floor.

This would be an extremely exciting way to handle E3. I hope they do this now.

I mixed up my electronics corporation theaters. The point still stands. I doubt they are spending much less if at all doing things this way.
Oh I agree. It's still the same venue but a different approach.

I'm just waiting on the "event" that will provide everyone at home with all the info on new software titles/release dates/trailers.

That would be an awesome way to do this.

Also Nintendo announcing "And all our demos can be downloaded on the Wii U eShop right now!" to make it even more epic.

Nintendo should release a Nintendo Direct explaining their E3 plans.
And then people will write articles about how Nintendo thinks people are too stupid to understand basic concepts.
And then people will still be confused about Nintendo's explanation video.
The end.

I guess it's going to be set up something like this;

1. * Public Nintendo E3 Direct focusing on announcements over details.
* Nintendo show floor open for public.

2. * Private E3 Demonstration for media, going in-depth on the games.
* Press room allowing for exclusive coverage of titles and interviews.

Or some such in interchangeable order?

That photo... it made the hype reach critical mass. Only for the hopes and dreams to be shattered shortly after.

Because:

1. No need for a spectacle for a small private event
2. To cover important details that would bore viewers that can't get hands-on with demos

Because it will probably be super duper boring to us, like the Nintendo Land demonstration last year x10.

Lol people still mentally conflicted
my point is fucking stick to your directs or don't do anything. Not this halfsy halfsy bullshit. You have nintendo directs. Why not just do a pre-recorded video explaining to everyone what will be there on the showfloor and all that. Makes more sense to me. Especially considering you've already said that will be your new direction for E3.

Only thing that seems mentally conflicted upon reading this is Nintendo atm. Just don't agree with the small stuff. Directs are better anyway.

Like, I know Nintendo is unpredictable sometimes, but why are people surprised when they do exactly what they said they would?!

Because people either didn't read or love to be drama queens. E3 always seems to change a lot of people round these parts. This year it starts early.

Oh yeah there were even bigger versions in the end right? I don't have them saved sadly

It really got out of hand... that image just got bigger and bigger lol.

Your points are "fucking" stupid. Nobody cater to you. They do what they want... deal with it. Or keep whining if you like.

I think its interesting that people are getting hyped now after huge threads of complaining about this exact thing.

You seem upset hahaa, damn you guys are touchy.

This seems like the wii U in general. They want to do it all. Just pick a direction and go with it. No E3 conference and just do a bunch of videos and that's all anyone needs. Or if you want to do multiple conferences just do the one big one and forget everything else. It's just weird is all. I don't actually care. The amount of time I'll spend thinking about this is the amount of time I spend writing this post.

Except this doesn't effect you or many of us since it is targeted towards the press and distributors. We're going to still get our directs, E3 impressions, and etc. Just no live stream of the press conference since the people this is targeted towards are already there.

hey if these conferences have absolutely zero news for me as a gamer then that's great so I know I can skip them in the future. For some reason I doubt this though. We'll see.

Can we use this thread as proof that GAF doesn't read beyond one sentence per post in any thread ever? Seriously what is up with the confusion?

People read what they want to read, as long as it suits their own personal agenda.

sounds similar to what people were saying in response to the wii U confusion.

Lets face it, this company doesn't do the best job explaining what they're up to.

They were perfectly clear in this one though. They said what they were doing from the get go.

EDIT: plus the Wii U confusion wasn't exactly GAF centric. It was the concern about the average joe (a valid concern at that).

Because the press and distributors need to be catered to as well. Not giving the press enough attention has bit Nintendo in the ass at least 2 years in a row.

But this is what they said they were going to do...

well my post is not about what they're doing it's more of a commentary on why. I just think it's like they are denouncing the value of E3 and want to do their own thing (which is 100% cool), but then they're going to do 2 small conferences or something. It seems like they want the presence, but don't want it. What will the press gain from this that they can't gain from just watching one of the directs or something.

Yep.

First, we decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past.
Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media. Also, I did not speak at last year’s presentation, and I am not planning to speak at these events at the E3 show this year either. Apart from these exclusive events for visitors, we are continuing to investigate ways to deliver information about our games directly to our home audience around the time of E3. We will share more information about them once they have officially been decided.

well my post is not about what they're doing it's more of a commentary on why.

They explained that pretty clearly too.

In the past we invited reporters, investors and analysts, industry partners, such as software publishers, and distributors who attended E3 to our large-scale presentations. We also used them as a communication tool in which we broadcast our presentations on the Internet to reach out to video game fans around the globe. I believe that many are expecting us to host a similar event this year.
On the other hand, since we set out on new endeavors such as Nintendo Direct two years ago in October, we have been paying special attention to the fact that different people demand different types of information from us. For example, as video game fans are looking for information about games, it seems that they are less interested in sales figures that investors and analysts on the other hand attach much greater importance to, and distribution partners are looking for information on how we are going to market our products in the immediate future. At previous financial briefing sessions we announced information about our products, showed videos and even uploaded the recording of these events onto our website, but given that we now have an established method such as Nintendo Direct, we feel that we will be able to deliver our messages more appropriately and effectively by doing so individually based on the various needs of different groups of people.

Because there are three different audiences they want to address and they can't address one audience effectively without alienating the others so they are addressing them all separately.
