Yeah, last nights turn of events was a surprise. Universal start meddling, and has been causing trouble for the production sadly. Hopefully more info can crop up today.

DING DING DING DING DING

All of you complaining that Universal put this turd on hold are basically complaining that you didn't get a rushed, underdeveloped and thus massively disappointing Jurassic Park entry. Then after you watched it you would complain about how rushed the whole thing felt.

I just was hoping they would delay the film and give the production the time it needs to be good.

Now it'll just be a slow, underdeveloped and thus massively disappointing Jurassic Park entry.

Just bring the science back to JP. The Lost World squandered all that potential by not going deeper into the habits and impact of a million year old species in todays ecosystem.

Yes I want some good action pieces, but they don't need to be "epic". Epic <> intense. We already know what some of the dinos can do so the reveal can't be the surprise, it's how they adapt to our world (like the kitchen in the first film) or how they have developed new traits for survival.

JP3 had many issues, but I recall enjoying the river boat sequence near the end.

Where is Spielberg in all this? Too busy sailing around instead of protecting the JP brand no doubt!

I hope to God "epic" doesnt = Mainland invasion, military mutant raptors, and/or military vs. dinosaurs but knowing those cort snorting MBA's they got running the studios now it probably does
Spielberg's got better shit to do than worrying about Jurassic Park. Like making a Hook sequel.

It's actually a prequel called Looky.

Hey, whatever happened to that modern day realistic Peter Pan twist film that had Hook as a detective that was chasing down this maniac that would enter people's windows? Somebody tell me I'm not the only one that remembers this.

Well, it seems Universal is gonna meddle and make the movie more epic and less sciencey, because from what I understand the script was very solid and very JP.

A reliable source confirmed to /Film that the production of Jurassic Park 4 has, indeed, been put on hold. “Chasing a start date is not a good idea financially or creatively,” the source said. Expect a full statement from Universal soon. The original story follows.

Source.

Anyways, they did have a story, the time frame was too tight and universal had conflicting plans.

I would love to see someone write a tell-all of the history of Jurassic Park IV's development hell. I think that'd be pretty interesting to read.

Official Press Release: http://www.universalpictures.com/news/Universal_Announcemenet_JP4_1.pdf

"In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise. We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history."

Or if the movie ever gets made, have a 1 hour documentary on the blu ray.

You are blessed with the voice of truth.

Next you'll tell us Rufio rules or something.

Some of that smells like bull.

What's your involvement in the movie man?

Maybe I'm being negative, but the gist I'm hearing is that it's just not happening.

If so then they should just go out and say it.

Don't let us wait 487358758932752893758932758937325 more years and then say; nope.

Just man the fuck up and tell us.

I would accept that. Then I don't have to drag my dick in the ground waiting.

It was called Pan. Aaron Eckhart was gonna play Hook. Ben Hibon, an animation director, was going to direct. Seems dead or in development hell.

I think the 3D release of the original did pretty well. The market is clearly ready and willing for this. It'll happen in time but getting this all done in a year was a lot to ask as is.

I know, it hurts me as well. The uncertainty. We'll be good, I hope.

I'm hoping that's it, because yes, that's far too short for preproduction. But hearing "canned" has made me nervous.

Just switch locations from Isla Nublar to New York or something - you know you want to Universal, and just go for it. As long as it happens.

They are also rewriting the script.

Colin Trevorrow will helm the pic and is currently rewriting the script with his writing partner Derrick Connelly who he worked with on his Sundance hit “Safety Not Guaranteed.”

Now I'm curious to hear what the other script was about.

Im not involved, but I'm in contact with people. Its a lot of fluff. A script was greenlit last Friday.

Article:

Rumblings began to surface last night of a possible delay to the production when several crew members tweeted that the production was being halted.

The project was already on a tight schedule when the studio dated the film before it tapped a director to come on board. “Safety Not Guaranteed” helmer Colin Trevorrow was eventually selected but as part of his deal had asked the studio if he could re-work the script with writing partner Derrick Connelly.

Even with a script being worked out, the studio had begun meeting with actors and had focused on thesps such as Bryce Dallas Howard and David Oyelowo as front-runners to join the cast. The idea was once a script was done and green light given that offers could be given out immediately and production get under way without any worry of getting off schedule due to casting meetings.

While delays are never a good thing, this is hardly a troubling sign for the production but more of the fact that Universal may have simply gotten too far ahead of themselves when setting the original date.

Colin Trevorrow will helm the pic and is currently rewriting the script with his writing partner Derrick Connelly who he worked with on his Sundance hit “Safety Not Guaranteed.”

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver penned the original script but no plot details have been revealed.

Frank Marshall is producing with Spielberg exec producing.

Is it bad that I think this sounds like a really cool idea?

With Jurassic Park 4, Trevorrow, producer Frank Marshall and a crew have been working towards a June 24 start. Trevorrow is living in Hawaii and had been there for quite some time, working with his Safety Not Guaranteed writer Derek Connolly on a new script.

But the studio only received their draft two days ago, according to several sources.

The move put in motion the studio development process and a new round of budgeting.

It became clear that the start date and the release date would not be met under the new scenario and rather than risk the situation, Universal decided to postpone its much-needed franchise player.

There is more drama going on behind the scenes than what these articles imply. That script was greenlit, and then they changed their mind.

The kid from the original Jurassic Park is the same actor who played Sledge in The Pacific. He's a good actor, get him back!

This is not the first thread I wanted to see coming back to GAF.

I hope that now that it's been put on hold, they'll actually think about what to do with this film. I'm glad they stopped going for that ridiculous release date for next year, with very little pre-production done.

The script being an issue/or not being an issue surprises me a bit. Aren't these the same writers that had done Rise of the Planet of the Apes? They did a good job with that one.

Oh what a tease! Ugh. But weren't there set photos of people on location in Hawaii or Louisiana? In this instance are those people then brought home and that money/time spent wasted?
