For those who don't like the ground textures of MH4 can play this instead since it's going to be release internationally.

Wait. What the fuck is this? A knock off? It's fucking identical and amazing looking.

The issue with the KZ thread was that the topic was technology, and someone trolled the gameplay. This is a screenshot thread, so the idea is to evaluate the screenshots. Saying 'MH is fucking boring' would be shitting up the thread, expressing surprise at the level of graphics on this top-tier 2013 title seems fair. It is a very, very ugly game. Noticeably ugly. If it was on any other platform, all you'd see is posts saying 'what the fuck is that?!'.

Ok then, I thought the idea was to discuss the new information from the screens, and not wether or not they're fucking ugly; like the new monsters, areas and stuff. But thank you for your contribution!

Maybe put 'positive impressions only' in the title next time?
Oh. So you think a 3DS game should look as good as the vita?

As seen in videos it is not a "very very ugly game" the ground needs work but animation and what we have seen is very far from it.

I really don't think so, i still have my psp where i tried all the monster hunter games demos and everytime i said WTFITS!?!? I don't understand what's good about it, the only thing i liked was the freedom of exploration.
I didn't buy soul sacrifice because i really don't like long fights but i really loved everything of the demo, magic system, story, setting, design, combat etc.
Everyone who says that soul sacrifice is not even a good alternative to monster hunter is only a blind fanboy imo.

That's cool. You don't like MH and seem to genuinely prefer SS over it and that's fine. The game is not for everyone. Still, there's a reason why MH is so popular. Besides, I don' think anyone in this thread said SS isn't a good alternative to MH, just that it's not a better game than MH. Big difference there, mate.

Commissioned by Capcom?

Yeah, it's not a weird knockoff, it's with Capcom's graces but not direct involvement apparently.

Edit: Upcoming Vita qame:

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this doesn't look super great. That thread is mostly people saying "cool, a neat looking game for Vita."

It could be "wow, this game looks like hot garbage" and "Vita is saved? LOL" and I guess that wouldn't be out of bounds...but it also would be pretty lame. Let Vita owners looking forward to quirky indie games have their fun, I don't care about the game so I don't see the point in repeatedly bashing it.

OP is missing some shots.

I see they are being more careful with MH4, when they announced MH3U we could see hunters sporting equips from monsters not yet announced, lol.

Personally, I don't see the fuss with MH4's graphics. To me, they look pretty good. Even if I was disappointed, I've learnt from the past not to judge the visuals of handheld games from online/magazine screenshots.

What's wrong about criticizing game graphics in a thread about screenshots?
No one is saying that mh4 is a bad game(tbh i do think so but i understand that other people like it) but those screens are ugly anytime anywhere. Just deal with it or even better complain about it, (i'm talking in general)if no one complains about bad things developers have no reasons to spend more money and time to make things better.

A)imo ss is better than mh(and i'm not the only one) but i understand that people can prefer mh so i don't push my opinion like an undeniably truth unlike mh fans that pretend people to accept their opinion that mh is miles better than ss.
b)Monster hunter is a long run successful series on the more successful platform, ss is a new ip on the less successful platform, this is a big difference too mate. :p

I'm not a big fan of the "dark" tone the game areas and monsters are taking. One of the things I like the most about MH3U is that it's all blue skies and very cheerful, almost SEGA-like.

I've tried the WiiU demo and got quite what I expected (only other MH game I ever played, for a couple of hours, was that on PS2 years ago). In fact, on a superficial look, games look similar and I'm still wondering about this dreaded learning curve, whereas I see mostly a fairly basic action game. Is there something big I'm missing about the game I can't see from the demo? Should I think getting into the game, considering I like skill based action more than rpg elements?
If you've beaten the fish thing with legs then you've been through one of the mid difficulty monsters in 3U (at least I consider it mid). The demo lacks mainly the resource hunting and armor crafting bits. It's definitely a very action oriented game, after this I'm scared I'll find it hard to do a Zelda game, the battles here are all very engagnig.

Just look at MH3 Ultimate on 3DS, it looks way better than this and any MH on PSP. MH4 looks that bad thanks to a different "purpose" for the game.
What's this new 'purpose' you speak of?

Or maybe some people should keep OFF threads they are not interested in.
I'm interested in MH.. Always have been.

I think this game looks ugly. These games tend to have a masterful command of their color palettes and this is the first time they have really slipped up. It looks bad.

We all know the gameplay will deliver.. But this is a screenshot thread.

Should everyone in this thread go into the Panopticon thread and start bashing the loll/moe characters for pages?
What loli(?)/moe characters?

in every PS3 game thread do 20 people need to point out that the PC version has higher IQ?
Most ps3 games don't have pc versions.

I think you need to chill out.

Ok then, I thought the idea was to discuss the new information from the screens, and not wether or not they're fucking ugly; like the new monsters, areas and stuff. But thank you for your contribution!
Right

and how ugly it all looks

Anyway I think it was a bit weird they didn't have a queen for the bugs in tri.

Edit: Upcoming Vita qame:

You really are comparing a random indie title developed by 2 or 3 guys to probably the largest 3rd party franchise on dedicated handhelds?

....Jesus christ.

Though you may find it hard to believe, it's not about PSV vs 3DS. For me, it's about the fact that a humongous franchise that sells millions upon millions of copies can look that terrible and get away with it. I get it, 'gameplay > graphics' and all that, but this looks absolutely horrific, visually. I don't normally comment on 3DS visuals because I know what to expect. I make exception for MH because it's such a huge franchise and yet looks really bad, even by 3DS standards.

I'll leave you in peace because I know what a drag negativity is, I just wanted to elaborate on my position.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Away from Sony as fast as possible?

Should everyone in this thread go into the Panopticon thread and start bashing the loll/moe characters for pages? How about that OlliOlli game for Vita? It looks like dogshit no? Should a bunch of people go into that thread and point out that it looks like a Colecovision game? (Even if they have no interest in the game to begin with)

3DS screenshots always look bad - that's the nature of the device. Pointing that out is fairly pointless and belaboring it really smacks of sour grapes of the worst kind.

"PSP was 2004 and this is 2013." Is it new info that the PSP had a nice high res screen for it's time and the 3DS does not? in every PS3 game thread do 20 people need to point out that the PC version has higher IQ?

Yeah, it's not a weird knockoff, it's with Capcom's graces but not direct involvement apparently.

Wow, you really take this "Us vs Them" sentiment way too much to heart. MH4 looks dog ugly, just gonna have to live with that because Capcom tried to do too much MT Framework stuff on a system that can't hack it. Those other games don't look ugly because theres no shitty textures, sharp jaggies, and barely legible graphics to point and laugh at.

I mean dragging todays Sony game announcements in here to "prove a point" is one of the most insecure GAF post reactions I've seen in these parts for a while.

Another MH4 thread down the drain.
That's why I only read the news from the OP and close it out, because the rest of the people whine about ground textures and stifle discussion on the rest of the game.

It sucks that every MH4 thread is this all the time.

Just waiting for someone to post downscaled MHP3 HD screens now and we got everything.

PSP: 2004 Hardware

NextGen graphics!
And still no second stick

Thank you , I know people will call you a troll, but it needs to be said since the PSP and MH were such a black sheep on gaf at the time.

Still excited for MH4 though, think it will be fine in motion.

I just jumped in this thread now, but looking at the OP my original impression was that it looks really good - especially for 3DS.

Then I saw the rest of the posts on that page and got confused.

Are people seriously thinking this looks bad? Or is there some kind of Sony fanboy salt going on here, like when Square jumped ship to Playstation??

In the Panopticon thread I'm praising the game and defending it against people saying it looks bad!

Did you miss the "...but it also would be pretty lame" part of my statement?

What was that away from sony line then? That was pretty lame.

Did anyone say it looked bad? All I recall was people saying it wouldn't look good for a ps4 game. Me being one of them.

Why does it always have to be some other reason behind a person's comments?
The screenshots in the OP look like total shit, it's that simple. Yes it's MH so it doesn't matter because the gameplay delivers, but this is a screenshot thread.

Stop it. You do not want that game. Trust me. Your gear breaks. You buy insurance to reduce the risk of your gear breaking. It can still break. You buy this insurance with REAL MONEY.

But hey, looks great in stills, right?

What's with the DOF blur? In what instances does that activate? Is that some kind of lock on system? Like you lock on to the monster and the background blurs. Some screens have it, some don't.

It's not the first game with bad ground textures, it's not the last one with bad ground textures

Playing MH3 on my 3DS XL I must say that I'm fine with the look - no, this won't win any handheld tech awards, but the extremely well-crafted art design is still there and the game runs on a more than decent framerate which is quite enjoyable (I've got the DD version though).

I've finished playing Yakuza on PCSX in the last days and will soon start the 2nd one, and the game isn't a technical marvel compared for today's standards, but I'm willing to forget my inner graphics whore for an amazing game experience; something more people should consider. Yes, I love great graphics as anybody does, we all do (you can see me posting in the high-res PC screenshot threads since there is so much good stuff in them), but you have to relax about that fact since it really isn't everything. Yakuza is still beautiful to me!

If you can't play MH4 because of visuals, then you can play the Chinese game :lol most of the people complaining here won't be in the game's OT anyway

Those snow/ice locations look pretty good; I love how darker they are compared to what you get in Tri - love the staff (?) and long sword weapons

Whoa seriously? Got a link mate? I know they have to make money some way for it being f2p. But still.

I'm sure that just the monster intro mate.

Look at MH3U. It is a much better looking game. Regardless, I don't give a shit, MH4 is gonna be awesome.

Looks like its been edited or something so it focuses on the monsters.

And that is why I am confused by this thread.

I have MH3 for 3DS and this looks leagues better than that.

From what I played and saw of tri, environments appear to be much more interesting to explore here and more importantly for the battles.

Monster Hunter threads are like Dragon Quest threads. 90 percent of the complainers are console warriors who are only there because the game positively/negatively impacts their platform of choice.

Could be cutscenes for the introduction of the monsters for the first time.

One MH4 trailer had a cutscene that involves your Hunter, so we finally show up in the cutscenes too.

Lol, I laughed.

By the way I gather this is going to be a lot of fun; my only complaint so far is about the lack of water areas, but I am looking forward to reading first hands-on impressions and reviews.

I honestly expect them to come back on the G version.I hope they don't.

What are the people that only care about it cause it's on their platform of choice.

It seems fairly obvious that most of the more positive people in this thread have a genuine interest in it. At this point I also don't think a roving squad of partisans needs to defend 3DS - 3DS is a big boy now and can take care of itself.

I have like 200 hours in MH3. I care because it's a fun game I play with my friends and beating up big monsters is cool.

As far as water areas go I'm not a huge fan. I don't mind fighting the enemies like Plesioth and Gobul that come up on land somewhat frequently but fights that take place mostly in water are annoying.
