Halo: Spartan Assault confirmed for Windows Phone 8 - Developed by Vanguard Games

I really don't understand why this isn't on XBLA. :-/

Vanguard made Greed Corp and Gatling Gears on there already.

Wouldn't be surprised if it eventually makes it there. They would probably want to push it to both Xbox One and Xbox 360, and might just need more development time to get it up to the visual fidelity you'd expect from those systems.

Galactic Reign is available on Windows 8 and Windows Phone, will I have to buy it multiple times to play on both devices?

Buy once play anywhere. If you've already purchased Galactic Reign on another device, there is no need to purchase it again! You can download the trial and still have access to the additional content. Purchasing on other platforms will only unlock the ability to gain achievements on that platform

X360 is sadly, a different beast. It doesn't support this cloud thingy so that's a possible reason why.

Xbox One version is more likely though.

Um....Not really.

Windows phone has a 5.6% market share (since April) among smartphones OSes.
Windows 8 has a 3.8% share of the market (since may) of Computer OSes.

Microsoft is cutting out almost 95% of their potential market.

I know for a fact, that most people will NOT change OSs because of a game. Microsoft is leaving money on the table.

A $7 mobile game probably won't affect Microsoft's bottom line much. It might just be too challenging or time consuming to port the game over to all other platforms (XBL, iOS, Android, Windows 7). They might still do it at some point. Even Android doesn't get all iOS apps immediately (see Vine last week).

When it comes to gamers the situation also isn't quite that bleak. I believe among Steam users Windows 8 is at a share of about 12%.

I'll most likely play this. I have a Windows Phone 8 but I think I'll get it on Windows 8. I have a netbook with touch and detachable screen and it should work well with this game. Naturally I'll try the trial versions of the game on both (if available) before I make a final decision.

I can't play this on Windows 7?

What the fuck? Halo 2 Vista all over again.

I'd also like to complain about the choice of music in the trailer. I know we're now into a second trilogy but I'd very much prefer to hear those signature military drums and monks over some generic cinematic score.

It's built using WinRT, which means its extremely simple to port between W8 and WP8. Windows 7 will never support WinRT / metro apps.

This is nothing like Halo 2 Vista which was an artificial limitation. Its possible they could make another port, but it makes sense to come out on their newest platforms first.

Can't wait to play this on my Lumia 920 and Surface!

Yeah, it's hyperbole, except for the "nobody uses Windows Store" comment. Has it broke a million dollars revenue generated yet? Last I heard it hadn't cracked $200k. But certainly, the Windows Phone OS is a distant third, plus WP8 means they're effectively starting from zero again, and Windows 8 is doing worse than Vista last I heard, so making an exclusive to those platforms sounds a bit dumb.

For what its worth, even if people aren't using the Windows Store, there are a lot of people that have access to the Windows Store and would probably use it if there was something there they wanted.

I understand it being exclusive to PC and Windows Phone, but they could've at least made it available to Windows 7 on those platforms.

The thing that's getting missed here is that the game was made for winRT. So it will work in Windows 8 metro, and Windows phone 8 with little cross platform coding effort. It's not the same as making a PC game.

If it ever came to XBLA, I'd probably get it. Or by then it'd probably be supported on the XBone. Either way, it strikes me as Bastion meets Halo.

Meh, sucks it had to be this. These fuck-ups should have released ODST for the PC years ago being that it is not core Halo entry.

The milking begins. Well done Bungie, jumped ship at the right time.

How is this milking though if they hardly if ever release an Halo title anymore for PC?

I'm guessing if you play on a Windows 8 device, it'll support a 360 controller. I'm also sure it'll come for iOS and Android eventually, they probably want 6 months to a year exclusive period to help grow their new platforms. This look really cool. Now, will I have to buy it twice to unlock it on my PC/tablet and Windows Phone?

No, but MS will be transitioning away from points soon on all devices. There will be gift cards similar to iTunes.

No, it's not on Windows 8 or no I can't use my points? I know about them transitioning from points, which is a huge negative for me, but I have like 20k MS points right now and would like to buy this.

Did I miss if the two versions would work together or would you have to pay twice?

Oh It seems you thought the same as me.

Frankie said in this thread that controller support is coming post launch. It supports touch and MK to start.

Most likely it won't have cross-buy. Afaik, Galactic Reign is the only game to do this so far. Hopefully in the not too distant future they will merge the W8 and WP8 stores.

It is on Windows 8, but you can't use points of Windows 8. Sorry for the confusion. That is a lot of points. You should pick up State of Decay tomorrow for 1600 points ;)

I used to agree with this. But the system we built for this works surprisingly well. Believe me, I have played plenty of games where my thumbs leave the surface, or the game simply doesn't understand my intent after my thumbs drift.

Does this game work on Surface RT? Or is it just Windows 8 devices?

Yeah not holding my breath on that, the systems just aren't in place yet.

Because GFWL existed and could have been on on par with Steam if they fucking supported the thing with even minimal major releases like a offshoot Halo, which ODST is or even a Forza. A billion dollar company should fucking realize doing things like that had the potential to bring in new customers more than take them away from another service. Now they have almost no foothold in the PC space when it comes to gaming and the irony is that many of the "exclusives" still come to the PC but are "exclusive" to Steam.

Guess we finally got a Halo Wars sequel.

Pretty great all things considered, will definitely be buying it on the 820. Who'd have thought, a Halo Wars sequel that I could play on the train.

Okay thanks for the clarification. Obviously I'm picking up State of Decay. My hope is that MS converts the points in money that can be used in every marketplace.

Not Halo Wars 2. This isn't even an RTS. It's more like a super duper Geometry Wars meets Spartan Ops from what I'm reading.

Pffs...game looks ok but graphically no beast for a mobile game. Also, who is waiting for this?

Mario fans.

Yeah, hopefully they would do something like that, but I have a feeling they won't.

then no one would have bought an xbox, everyone would have then complained that the xbox has "no exclusives" and that they'll just wait for the PC ports. MS gave up fighting for PC gaming market long ago, they want the livingroom instead.

Pretty much. Microsoft would rather everyone plays games on Xbox and use PCs for Office and Apps.

That's very disappointing.

I guess I'll still get it, but come on MS. Where's my Halo Wars sequel dammit.

The game looks rad and I really want to play it.

That being said, I think it's gonna flop hard.

People tend not to buy those super complex games on mobile because using the touch screen is a bitch. That's why the most succesful mobile games are super simple in gameplay.

So you're limiting yourself to a pool of people already owning windows 8 phones, which isn't the biggest install base... and even then the only ones of those that will drop 7 bucks on a mobile game will be hardcore halo fans, and that's an even smaller selection.

Most people I know either don't have Windows 8, or got rid of it for 7 because its trash. They might be able to get some people here but who knows.

an OS is expensive to get. So is a new phone. And people who are content with their android and ios devices aren't going to drop hundred+ buckaroos just to play a little Halo mobile game.

It's setting itself up for failure just like Halo 2 VISTA did when it came out. Don't limit your install base ya dingus's

Should have been a XBLA game. I would have bought it.
