I wonder how much money was spent on counter-corporate espionage to make them believe this.
Must have been a lot. The Cell 2 and larrabee rumors were very, very strong. Along with the CTO bluffing on chip stacking and other hyperbole.

The Gamecube used SRAM also from Mosys. Any word on what the total eDram bandwith on Wii U is?Not on the same die... it is packaged together with the GPU and CPU, but it's not made during the same fabrication process like the Xbone's. It's also eDRAM, which is different.
This will only work for early adpoters. The smallest group of people overal.
What does microsoft do mid generation when PS4 multiplats are clearly and significantly superior? They have a kinect-esqe reveal of the 3d glasses but I very much doubt they will even moves success with that.
Well if MS secures the blockbusters of their shitty machine, people wont care how shitty it is now, will they?
That's the harsh reality.
They'll bring the games at E3, more so than Sony. People will just...well...deal with it.
They won't burn for this (even tough they should).
Nothing. Do you REALLY think casuals care about that? Do you even think most of them will notice. Hell majority of my casual friends didn't see a difference between Killzone and CoD Ghost. This will only work for early adpoters. The smallest group of people overal.

have you noticed how geoff keighley and cboat are never in the same place at the same time?
Can someone explain to me why does crazy buttocks write the way he does? :lol Is it some strange attempt at being stealthy?
I'm just worried whether this will be bad news for PS4 owners as well if third party publishers are having to work with much inferior hardware.
Also i see people still don't get what he said at the end.
Sony suprized MS with early console reveal and 2013 date.
All problems like yelds, downclock etc are directly connected with rushed development of Xbox One because MS thought they will lunch their console later than 2013. All problems above can be fixed but it needs time which MS doesn't have (after Sony reveal)
have you noticed how geoff keighley and cboat are never in the same place at the same time?
Dunno 'bout that, but that first word you chose is definitely a disaster. I guess I cannot find myself pulled into the prevailing mindset of the last few months, even with insiders chiming in. The hyperbole and negativity/positivity of the forum can tremendously distort a situation and not match what ends up happening in reality. At worst, I can see MS going with limited supply (and taking a bigger hit per unit) for this year, while ramping up production over time when the issues, whatever they may be, ease up and cease to remain problems in the longer term.Irregardless, they're gone, and this has Ballmer Box disaster written all over it.
Why?
Compare what the Genesis and SNES CPU speeds were. Compare Saturn to PS1 and N64. Compare the Wii to the 360 and PS3. System power parity among competition is a rarity and it is even more rare that the system that is significantly more powerful ends up being the most popular platform.
Bingo. Neogaf is having a meltdown over the news but normal dudebros who like Halo/Gears/Call of Duty/Madden and don't read gaming forums or blogs will probably never know or care about this.

No one will really care or notice a difference in Xbox One and PS4 games except the hardcore. Microsoft secures them by launching with tons of gamea. After year one or two, Microsoft just focuses on the casuals by making CoD, FIFA, TV, etc all more appealling on Xbox One with exclusive content and such.
Huh... what? WiiU has 32 MB of eDRAM (+ 3 MB of SRAM) built within the GPU die.
Correction: Gameplay>graphics, except when those graphics are a skybox based on complex atmospheric equations solved in the cloud.Xbone will play very beautiful games filled with immersion thanks to Kinect 2. And gameplay>graphics. So even with the down clock there shouldn't be any issue for average gamer or 12-14 yr olds who would buy the console for CoD.
but xbone is still more powerful than x360, right?
More like from this:
PS4>>Xbone>>>>>>Wii U
to this:
PS4>>>Xbone>>>>>Wii U
tough I don't really support the use of ">" as a metric for relative system performance .
Of course depending on the degree of downclocking. The performance impact is not that huge, but its more significant because (1) they were already quite a bit behind GPU-wise and (2) it will likely increase chip costs for MS.
Lol @ people who don't understand CBOAT, is it that hard with all the context given?
Can someone explain to me why does crazy buttocks write the way he does? :lol Is it some strange attempt at being stealthy?
Maybe Thurrot is right on the $499 standalone and no subsidized SKU. It all could be related to the bad yields.
On one hand they would be losing a lot of money if they sell less than $499 on the stand alone.
With bad yields, there may not be enough supply demand for a subsidized SKU.
Was this The Agent Sony have been talking about for several years?
Who was it on this forum who had an "insider" claim that the 1st showing of games on next gen xbox, will look better than when the games actually release?
Even though the detail was missing, a downclock of the GPU would certainly fit...
These are completely different factors were discussing then.I said it in other threads, but I do think they will care this time around. Many people are losing their patience on being charged $60 a year to play online. If Sony comes out with a graphically superior system, at a cheaper price, that doesn't require internet or the Eye to function, play pretty much the same games, and it will still allow the play of borrowed and private sale games, THEN YES the casuals will care. They will care a lot.
The clue is in those clouds the giant PS3 controller is floating in!
I'm not so sure.
People say it's all about the games, but you have to have a good foundation for those games and MS aren't exactly putting their best foot forward. In fact, that's a massive simplification of the mess the One has been since reveal.
I hope they can turn it around, a console market with only one relevant company isn't something that anyone wants.

Worse multiplatform games then the PS4 won't matter in itself, but combined to all those other negatives, it might.
Whether or not "NO private selling" and "always online" matter to casuals is also something we have't seen yet.
But they must´nown that they have to release a new hardware in a certain timeframe.
Yeah, just remember the PS2. Many multiplatform games looked superior on Xbox and Gamecube but the most games were sold on PS2.
thuway, i believe.
Your optimism is inspiring if not misplaced.

TRUTHFACT should replace RUMOR in the header
Considerably. But, (and this is just one jackass's opinion, obviously) there's raw power and then there's perceived power. One of the challenges for the Xbone and PS4 going into this new generation is going to be demonstrating a huge visual leap over the existing console without putting a $500 or $600 product out there at launch.
For hardcore gamers like most of us, this difference will be immediately noticeable from the get-go. But from the casual's perspective- I'm not so sure they're going to see it. To them, current-gen games already look really "sharp" on their LCD in vivid mode with the brightness and sharpness turned up to 100 and edge enhancement on high. I'm not sure they're going to be counting particles or noticing tessellation or ray tracing, etc.
This was already an uphill fight for MS given what we know about the PS4. I'm not sure how much more ground they really have to give here.
where did Thurrot say $500 standalone? i know he said no sub but where did you hear the former?
