Neither, but I guess I'm just used to that after 15+ years of playing (violent) games. The notion that violence is "accepted" in GoW/Gears but not TLoU because it looks more realistic just seems absurd, THEY'RE ALL FAKE!

That's like saying there's no difference between the violence in Commando and Apocalypse Now. Tone is everything.

lol steel battalion and star wars kinect are without question terrible games and probably got such low scores they pulled the rest down. 360 doesn't even have enough first party exclusives to make a comparison. I don't know why people care about polygon reviews that much anyway, they're one of the least respected gaming sites at this point.

The fact that they're terrible games is irrelevant because the key comparison is between Polygon's scores and the Metacritic average for each game. The fact that they're terrible is indeed reflected in the Metascore.

If your goal is to compare Metacritic averages between PS3 and 360, then yes, shitty Kinect titles bring down the MS average, but that wasn't the comparison I was trying to make. I'm trying to establish whether or not Polygon is harsher on PS3 exclusives than 360 exclusives.

My first post says they Polygon isn't biased against Sony/towards MS. My second post, just looking at first party IP exclusives, suggests there is the possibility that they are.

...That's why he gave an average with the kinect games and gave a second (more realistic) without them? And the 360 has a solid first party line up, easily enough to make a comparison? Polygon is a relatively new site and he only has a certain start date to go on.

Nice try. Read a post before commenting on it.

Come on, if you see a game with that many 10/10's it just screams fake reviews.

Or it screams it's a good game, put the tin foil hat down.

That's a terrible argument... he used metacritic as a baseline. Whether games are bad or not has absolutely no bearing.
Those 2 games are so objectively terrible that it would be even beyond Polygon's bullshit to give them good scores. If you have a bunch of games that score a 7.5 average, let's say, and then 2 that score in the 3-4 range it's going to highly affect the overall average. As you saw when he posted the kinect scores, it was much more even.

Yes and removing the 2 kinect scores made things much more even, lol and no the 360 does not have a solid first party lineup. Half of what he posted were kinect games and another isn't even a 360 exclusive.

If the violence can clearly be toned down to the point of being cartoonish, complaining about it ridiculous, and docking points off it for that reason is asinine.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
I was always planning on picking up this game, but I wasn't really that deeply invested in it. I knew it was going to be good, so I didn't need to follow it that closely, you know? Though these reviews are steller... well played, Naughty Dog. I'd like to work with you one day, haha.

Can we implement a new forum rule where any mention of fucking Metacritic is an instaban?

Jesus fucking christ, what is WRONG with you people?

Who cares for reviews? If you're interested, buy it. Not really interested, rent it, try a demo, bum it from a friend, or watch someone play it on youtube. These game sites have zero effect on my gaming purchases. But it does suck reviewers have an impact on developers pay with metacritic scores. o_O

Am I the only one who thinks that Uncharted 3 looks visually better than The Last of Us?

I'm excited as hell for this game don't get me wrong, but it seems like the aliasing and texture quality isn't as consistent as it was in UC3 based off the video reviews I've seen.

So I have money for one game to devour while I am home for Summer break in late June... It's incredibly difficult to decide between this and Infinite.

there are a lot of kids here. the problem though, like kids, they are heard to ignore. haha.

But the reason review scores have an impact on developer's pay is because there literally is a direct correlation of review scores to game sales. it's this modeling that makes it into inventivces and marketing budget contracts. you can negotiate score targets with devs, and you do mock reviews in advance for marketing dollars.

the key to make it stop happening is to get lots and lots of people to stop basing their purchase habits on review scores. though I doubt anyone has the kind of money to run that campaign haha :)

Actually your dismissive attitude is more fitting of a ban.

You see, this is a forum. We talk about things. A lot of things. We may not agree with each others opinions, and can't control how a thread mutateas..if you're not happy with the topics of conversation in this thread, turn your high horse toward the exit and see your high strung @$$ out of it.

you're not wrong on uncharted looking cleaner but that has nothing to do with texture quality and actually and AA on TLOU is an upgraded version of the U3 one, the reason this game looks different is because it has a grain filter that in some areas makes the game IMO look ugly, in some instances it can give a sub hd kind of IQ, i really hope there's an option to turn it off in the full game

Is there any chance for 96? (metacritic average)

Pretty good chance if they continue to add the reviews that were posted in this thread that aren't in Metacritic.

I could see this game tying Uncharted 2.

Gotcha, not sure what was throwing me off.

Anywho, it's still gorgeous.

Buy this and Redbox Infinite, the latter can be beat in one sitting.

Thanks :)
The only thing I'm bathing in is jetlag.

Congratulations guys! So glad to see that not everything from my childhood has changed, ND is still the best studio around.

I've been trying to get your game early all day today :p

Thanks. Well, what about Spike Tv's goty chance? :D

So I just ran the numbers using the data in the Metacritic's weighting system revealed.

The only single reviewer that had an impact on the game's score was GameSpot's score of an 80. If GameSpot had either just not reviewed the game at all, or had given it a 100 instead of an 80, we'd have a 96 metacritic.

This of course assumes that the model is 100% accurate, which I'm almost certain it isn't. But anyway

Spike GOTY is voted on by a panel of journalists if I'm not mistaken, so unless something comes along at launch for the new consoles that just absolutely blows everyone away...

I'm pretty sure it's a lock.

Today's #TheLastofUs 10/10 review was a joke, by the way. Real one coming tomorrow.

I actually... thought his review was pretty good?

*gasp*

Not just for the score, he addressed the AI at length in his review.
